Cooking is a secondary crafting profession in WoW Forever used create edible dishes for yourself and other players to enjoy. These foods are used to heal up quickly out of combat and also provide a multitude of buffs depending on the dish prepared.
Cooking Profession Overview in WoW Forever
Cooking is a secondary profession that turns meat, fish, and other ingredients into food and drinks. This guide explains how to cook, how food buffs work in WoW Forever, which recipes are useful, and where to learn each Cooking rank. It also covers Cooking's campfire items and the Legacy perks that improve crafting, food buffs, and camping.
What Is Cooking?
Cooking lets you prepare food that restores health or mana and provides temporary bonuses to your stats. As a secondary profession, you can learn it alongside both of your primary professions and the other secondary professions. You do not need Cooking to eat already prepared food, so you can make meals for yourself, share them with other players, or sell them on the Auction House.
WoW Forever gives many foods new bonuses, including an experience buff that makes Cooking useful throughout leveling. Later recipes provide stronger combat buffs, while others improve a profession or grant a special effect. Cooking also makes the campfire kits that let players establish and expand camps.
How to Cook
Learn Cooking from a trainer, open the Cooking window, and select a
recipe you know. The recipe shows its required ingredients and how many
items you can make with the materials you have. Most recipes require a
nearby cooking fire; fireplaces, stoves, and other suitable fires can be
found in towns and near Cooking trainers. You can also carry a
Basic Campfire Kit and place your own campfire when you need one
outdoors.
Meat usually comes from beasts, while fish come from
Fishing. Some recipes use herbs, eggs, or other materials
instead which are looted from monsters. Cooking Supplies and Trade Supplies
vendors sell common ingredients such as
Mild Spices,
Hot Spices, and
Soothing Spices. Check a recipe before buying
materials, since not every dish requires spices.
Trainers teach some recipes, but many others come from recipe items sold by vendors, awarded by quests, or dropped by enemies. Learning the profession or a new rank does not automatically teach every recipe available at that skill level.
Cooking Speed and Legacy Perks
Cookie's Stirring Rod increases your Cooking speed by
25% while equipped. It drops from Cookie in the Deadmines
and requires Level 17. As a wand, it can only be equipped by classes that
can use wands.
The
Master Chef Legacy perk gives your Cooking recipes a
chance to produce an extra result, reaching 50% at maximum rank.
This helps you get more finished food from your ingredients.
There are two additional Legacy talents that also help with Cooking.
Working Overtime increases your chance to gain a profession skill
point by up to 20%, and
Dedicated Study grants one point in your
lowest primary or secondary profession on a a 23-hour cooldown; it will increase
your Cooking if Cooking is your lowest level profession.
Food Buffs and How They Work
Ordinary food and drinks must be used while out of combat, where eating restores health over time, and drinks restore mana. Many Cooking recipes also grant a longer-lasting benefit after you spend at least 10 seconds eating or drinking; wait for the buff to appear before moving on as using the item and immediately standing up will not give you the benefit.
Most food buffs last 15 minutes and the food's tooltip lists its specific bonus, so choose a meal that suits your class or current activity. For example, a damage dealer may want attack power or spell damage, while a player gathering herbs may prefer a Herbalism skill bonus.
Most foods in WoW Forever also grant
Well Fed XP Boost,
increasing experience gained from kills by 5% while the food buff
is active. This bonus only applies to kill experience, rather than quest rewards.
Look for the experience bonus in the item's tooltip when choosing food
for leveling.
The
Gourmand Legacy perk increases the duration of
beneficial food effects by up to 100%. At maximum rank, a
15 minute food buff lasts 30 minutes; it extends the duration without
increasing the amount of stats the food provides.
Useful Cooking Recipes in WoW Forever
The tables below focus on strong combat buffs, profession bonuses, and useful special effects. Foods that provide the same bonus can use different ingredients, giving you alternatives based on what you have available or what is cheaper on the Auction House.
Use the buttons to choose a category. Required Skill is the Cooking skill needed to learn the recipe, rather than the requirement to eat the finished food. Recipes marked Iron Oven require that workstation as well. Effects are listed before Legacy bonuses.
Combat Buffs
The buffs in this table last 15 minutes before
Gourmand. These are the typical food bufs that players will want
to use in end-game content such as raids or PvP.

Druids in
Cat Form can use
Thistle Tea purchased from
another player; the recipe's Rogue quest sources do not restrict who can
drink the finished tea.
Cooking Campfire Items and Buffs
Cooking makes the campfires that other players can build around. Larger campfire kits allow more features to be placed at the same camp, giving the group room for additional buffs and profession services. Sit or craft near a camp for 1 minute to receive the benefits provided by the added features.
Carry finished campfire kits with you if you wish to set up a camp while
traveling. Making a
Basic Campfire Kit takes
Simple Wood and
requires a
Flint and Tinder tool in your bags; the wood will be consumed
when crafting the kit while the Flint and Tinder can be reusable.
| Item | Effect | Required Skill | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Creates a cooking fire with room for 3 additional camp features. | 1 | Cooking trainer. | |

Place camps outdoors while out of combat; they cannot be placed in
dungeons or raids. Campfire kits share a
5-minute cooldown, while adding features such as
Cookie's Feast
or
Iron Oven shares a 1-hour cooldown with other camp features.
Several useful foods require an
Iron Oven, including
Grilled Squid and
Baked Salmon. You can cook beside
an oven placed by another player as long as you know the recipe and meet
its Cooking requirement; you will need 300 Cooking and the recipe if you want to
place the oven yourself.
The
Permanence Legacy perk increases the duration of
benefits gained from resting at a camp by up to 100%.
Field Guide reduces the cooldown on adding camp features by
up to 25%, bringing the normal 1-hour cooldown down to 45 minutes.
These perks improve camping benefits and feature cooldowns, while
Gourmand improves the duration of the food you eat.
Cooking Trainers and Skill Ranks in WoW Forever
Cooking has four ranks. Trainers teach Apprentice and Journeyman, a book teaches Expert, and a quest unlocks Artisan. Learn the next rank before continuing at your current skill cap, since crafting at the cap cannot increase your Cooking skill.
| Rank | Skill Cap | Required Skill | How to Learn |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apprentice | 75 | None | Cooking trainer. |
| Journeyman | 150 | 50 | Cooking trainer. |
| Expert | 225 | 125 | |
| Artisan | 300 | 225 | Complete |
Use the buttons below to select a rank and your faction. Trainers
available to both factions appear at the bottom of both tables. The
Expert buttons show the book vendors, while Artisan shows the quest
giver shared by both factions. Copy a /mappin command into
game chat to mark the location on your map.
