Fishing is a secondary gathering profession in WoW Forever used to gather fish from bodies of water in Azeroth. These fish can then be used to create potions and powerful campfire buffs.
Fishing Profession Overview in WoW Forever
Fishing is a secondary profession that lets you catch fish and other items from lakes, rivers, and coastal waters throughout Azeroth. This overview covers how to fish, professions that use your catch, Fishing skill boosts, useful fishing locations, campfire items, and how to learn each rank of Fishing in WoW Forever.
What Is Fishing?
Fishing lets you gather fish for food and crafting by casting a fishing pole into the water. Fishing is a secondary profession, so you can learn it alongside both of your primary professions and the other secondary professions; you do not need to give up another profession to start fishing.
dYour catch depends on where you fish. Early areas provide fish such as
Raw Brilliant Smallfish and
Raw Longjaw Mud Snapper,
while other waters contain fish used in higher-level food and oils used by
alchemy. Fishing schools let you target particular catches, and floating
wreckage can contain trunks and other items.
Many fish can be cooked into food that restores health, and some recipes also grant temporary stat bonuses. This makes Fishing useful both while leveling and at Level 60, whether you want to prepare your own food, or sell useful fish to other players.
As your Fishing skill increases you can fish more reliably in waters that require greater skill, reducing how often you fish up junk items and increasing the number of actual fish you catch. Fishing poles, lures, and other skill bonuses can help you meet these requirements and reduce the number of fish that get away. Certain fish also only appear at specific locations, requiring you to choose an area that offers the fish you need.
Best Profession to Pair with Fishing
Cooking is the most direct match for Fishing. Many Cooking recipes turn raw fish into food, allowing you to level both professions together at the same time, saving plenty of gold and providing you with food while leveling. Both professions are secondary professions, so this pairing leaves your two primary profession slots available.
Alchemy also uses several fish as crafting materials such as:
Oily Blackmouth to make
Blackmouth Oil,
Firefin Snapper is used to make
Fire Oil, and
Stonescale Eel is used to make
Stonescale Oil.
Keep these fish when you need them for Alchemy or sell them to other
players who use the oils.
Casting and Catching Fish
Learn Apprentice Fishing from a Fishing trainer, then buy a
Fishing Pole from a Fishing Supplies or Trade Supplies vendor.
Equip the pole, face a nearby body of water, and use
Fishing
from your profession abilities. Watch the bobber and right-click it when
it splashes to collect your catch; cast again after each attempt.
Your Fishing skill determines which waters you can fish in and how reliably you catch something. A fish may get away even though you clicked the bobber when it splashed if your fishing skill is not high enough for the area. Increase your effective skill with a lure or fish in an easier area to reduce how often this happens, eventually bringing your chancce to succeed up to 100%.
Fishing Schools and Floating Wreckage
Schools appear as patches of disturbed water and contain specific fish. Position yourself so your bobber lands inside the school; if it lands outside, cast it again until it lands inside the pool before waiting for a bite. A school disappears once all of its available catches have been taken. Floating wreckage works in a similar way, but can provide containers and other loot instead of a regular fish, such as scrolls or potions.
Increasing Your Fishing Skill
You gain Fishing skill by making successful catches. As your skill increases, you need more successful catches for each skill point, but moving to a harder zone does not make those points come faster. Choose water where you can catch fish reliably, then change locations when you want different fish for Cooking or other recipes; it's possible to stay in a single area and level up fishing all the way to 300, as long as you train the next fishing rank when needed.
Fishing Skill Boosts in WoW Forever
Fishing poles, equipment, enchants, lures, and some foods increase your effective Fishing skill; these bonuses help you meet an area's fishing requirement and reduce the number of fish that get away. They do not replace the base skill required to learn your next Fishing rank.

The
Luremaster Legacy perk gives you a chance to catch an
additional fish while a lure is active. This makes lures useful even when
your Fishing skill is already high enough to prevent fish from getting
away.

New Fishing Materials in WoW Forever
WoW Forever adds
Whimsyfin, a fish found in Redridge
Mountains. Cooks use it to make
Savory Whimsyfin Delight, a new
transformation food. This gives players another special fish to gather
alongside
Deviate Fish from The Barrens.
Seasonal Fish Steaks are another new crafting material. They
are prepared from
Raw Winter Squid or
Raw Summer Bass
and are used in the
Fishing Hut recipe. Keep the distinction
between the raw catch and the prepared ingredient when gathering
materials for your campsite.
Uncommon and Rare Catches
The
Fishing Rack grants the ability to catch uncommon fish
for one hour, while the
Fishing Hut grants access to rare fish
for one hour. These benefits give you another reason to prepare a
campsite before a fishing session. A full list of the catches available
through these buffs will be added as more information becomes available.
Fishing Campfire Items and Buffs
Fishers use
Bait and Tackle to craft their campsite items.
The
Fish Bowl increases the stats of players sitting nearby,
and the advanced items provide the same benefit as well as lures
and additional fishing rewards. Place these items near a campfire
provided by Cooking; all camping features share a
cooldown of one hour.

Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza in WoW Forever
The Stranglethorn Fishing Extravaganza takes place every Sunday from
2 to 4 P.M. server time; players must catch 40
Speckled Tastyfish from
special tournament fish schools along the coast of Stranglethorn Vale and bring
them to Riggle Bassbait in Booty Bay. WoW Forever expands the competition to 50
winners and adds the
Extravagant Extravaganza Coin as a prize
currency. Winners can exchange these coins with Jang for rewards such as
Surfer Shoes or
Bitter Baitling.
Winners also receive the Master Angler title for a limited time, until
the next tournament begins. Jang sells
the additional rewards below including gold pouches and
Message in a Bottle,
which may contain very rare end-game items such as

Fishing Trainers and Skill Ranks in WoW Forever
Fishing has four ranks, but only Apprentice and Journeyman are learned from regular trainers. Expert Fishing requires a book, and Artisan Fishing requires a quest. Learn the next rank when it becomes available; catches made at your current skill cap cannot increase your base Fishing skill.
| Rank | Skill Cap | Fishing Skill Required | How to Learn |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apprentice | 75 | None | Fishing trainer. No character-level requirement. |
| Journeyman | 150 | 50 | Fishing trainer.Requires Level 10. |
| Expert | 225 | 125 | |
| Artisan | 300 | 225 | Nat Pagle, Angler Extreme. Requires Level 35. |
Use the buttons below to select a rank and your faction. Neutral
trainers appear in both faction tables. The Expert and Artisan tabs
show the vendor or quest giver needed for those ranks. You can copy a
/mappin command directly into the game chat to mark the
location on your map.
