World of Warcraft: Forever introduces Camping, a new system that lets players build shared campsites, gain useful buffs, access profession tools, and contribute crafted objects from their Tradeskills. This guide covers how Camping works, what benefits camps can provide, and how professions and Legacy interact with the system.
How the Camping System Works in WoW Forever
Camping is one of the major new open-world systems coming to World of Warcraft: Forever. Built around the familiar Cooking Fire, Camping transforms a simple campfire into a shared rest stop where players can sit together, gain buffs, repair their equipment, use profession workspaces, access useful services, and contribute special objects created through their professions.
The system is designed around one of WoW Forever's biggest goals: making the journey through Azeroth and the players you meet along the way matter again. Rather than every interaction in the open world being limited to fighting over a quest mob or gathering node, finding another player's campsite can give you a reason to stop, contribute something from your profession, pick up useful benefits, and then continue adventuring.
Camping is also closely connected to WoW Forever's much larger profession overhaul. Every profession will have campsite objects to unlock, more advanced versions can come from Blueprint recipes found during your adventures, and Cooking can eventually upgrade the Campfire itself to support significantly larger camps.
This guide covers everything currently known about Camping from Blizzard's BlizzCon 2026 presentation and the playable build. Exact values, recipes, Blueprint sources, placement rules, and campsite mechanics can still change throughout Beta.

How Camping Works in WoW Forever
The traditional Cooking Fire has been expanded into a Basic Campfire. Placing one in the outdoor world creates a campsite that other players can stop at and use.
Campsites can provide several types of benefits depending on the features and profession objects available:
- One-hour buffs
- Equipment repairs
- Vendors
- Profession workspaces
- Profession-specific utilities
- A place to rest before continuing your adventure
- A convenient place to refresh food buffs
Players do not simply run through the camp and instantly collect everything. Blizzard wants Camping to deliberately slow players down for a moment. To receive campsite buffs, players will need to sit near the Campfire and become rested before heading back out into the world.
The exact amount of time required to become rested at a campsite has not yet been confirmed.
Basic Campfire Object Limit
A Basic Campfire can support up to three special crafted objects at the same time.
There is an important social restriction: each nearby player can contribute only one object. Filling a Basic Campfire therefore requires multiple players to contribute instead of allowing a single character to immediately create a fully upgraded campsite by themselves.
| Campfire Type | Known Object Capacity |
|---|---|
| Basic Campfire | 3 objects |
| Upgraded Campfire | 5 objects |
| Advanced Upgraded Campfire | 10 objects |
Blizzard's BlizzCon presentation also stated that contributed campsite objects share a one-hour cooldown. The exact behavior of this cooldown, including how it interacts with replacing objects or moving between camps, should become clearer during Beta.
Camping and Professions
Professions are at the center of the Camping system. Every profession is planned to have three different campsite objects learned at different skill levels.
These objects do not all perform the same function. Some provide stat buffs, while others create profession workspaces or unlock crafting functionality that would otherwise require returning to a town or another specific location.
This gives professions a visible purpose while players are actually out adventuring rather than limiting most profession interaction to banks, Auction Houses, and capital cities.
Known Profession Camping Objects
The following profession objects were confirmed or shown during the WoW Forever Deep Dive:
| Profession | Campsite Object | Known Effect or Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Blacksmithing | Sharpening Wheel | Provides an Attack Power buff |
| Tailoring | Faction Banner | Provides a Spirit buff |
| Herbalism | Incense Candle | Provides an Intellect buff |
| Alchemy | Alchemy Lab | Provides an Alchemy profession workspace |
| Leatherworking | Tanning Rack | Used for certain advanced Leatherworking recipes |
| Cooking | Upgraded Campfire | Increases the number of profession objects a campsite can support |
Additional campsite objects exist for the other professions, but Blizzard has not yet published the complete list.
First Campsite Objects Unlock at 20 Profession Skill
Camping begins very early in the leveling experience. The first campsite object for a profession becomes available at only 20 profession skill.
These introductory objects can be learned either through profession trainers or special NPCs that introduce players to the Camping system.
This is an important part of Forever's profession philosophy. Camping is not intended to be something players ignore until Level 60. You should begin seeing profession-related benefits while leveling through the early zones of Azeroth.
More Advanced Objects and Blueprint Recipes
Higher-level campsite objects will require more than simply visiting a trainer. Blizzard has confirmed that advanced Blueprint recipes can drop from specific dungeon bosses.
This ties profession progression directly into adventuring and dungeon content. Instead of every profession recipe being purchased from a trainer or vendor, players may need to hunt down specific Blueprints to improve what their profession can contribute to a campsite.
The complete Blueprint list, drop locations, required skill levels, and material costs have not yet been revealed.
Blacksmithing Camping Progression
Blacksmithing was used as one of Blizzard's primary examples during the Deep Dive and gave us an early look at how a single profession's Camping progression can develop as its skill increases.
| Blacksmithing Skill | Object Shown |
|---|---|
| 20 | Sharpening Wheel |
| 140 | Anvil |
| 300 | Master Forge |
The Sharpening Wheel was specifically shown providing an Attack Power benefit. The full functionality of the Anvil and Master Forge will need additional testing once Beta begins.
This structure also demonstrates Blizzard's intent for professions to keep adding useful Camping functionality as players progress from their first profession skill points all the way to the Classic skill cap.
Camping Buffs and Class Buffs
Several profession objects provide familiar stat buffs, but Camping is not intended to create another stack of mandatory world buffs.
Equivalent campsite buffs do not stack with the matching class-provided effect. For example, an Intellect-style campsite benefit is intended to fill the gap when the appropriate class buff is unavailable, not provide an additional bonus on top of it.
This makes campsites particularly useful while leveling, forming smaller groups, or playing with a party composition that does not include every traditional buffing class.
It should also make profession choice more useful without replacing class utility. Classes still bring their normal buffs, while professions can temporarily cover some of those missing benefits through Camping.
Cooking and Upgraded Campfires
Cooking has a particularly important relationship with Camping because Cooks can improve the Campfire itself.
The Basic Campfire begins with space for three special objects, but upgraded versions can increase that limit to five and eventually 10 objects.
A larger campsite could therefore support significantly more buffs, crafting utilities, and services at the same time than a Basic Campfire.
| Campfire | Object Capacity |
|---|---|
| Basic Campfire | 3 |
| Cooking Upgrade | 5 |
| Higher Cooking Upgrade | 10 |
The exact Cooking skill requirements, recipes, and materials for these upgraded Campfires have not yet been fully revealed.
Food Is Also Being Reworked in WoW Forever
Camping arrives alongside a major overhaul to Cooking and crafted food.
Blizzard has said that almost all crafted food in Forever will provide some form of stat benefit alongside a small experience bonus. This gives leveling players another reason to stay Well Fed while traveling through Azeroth.
One example shown during the BlizzCon presentation provided an Intellect bonus alongside 5% increased experience from kills. In that demonstration, remaining seated while eating for 10 seconds granted a 15-minute Well Fed effect.
That was a specific BlizzCon example and should not be taken to mean every food item will provide exactly the same experience bonus, duration, or stat value.
Campsites are intended to be natural places to stop and refresh these food buffs before continuing your journey.
Camping and the Legacy System
Camping also interacts with WoW Forever's new Legacy progression system.
Several perks shown in the Legacy Trees directly affect Camping, meaning players who enjoy using camps frequently can invest some of their limited Legacy allocation into improving the system.
| Legacy Perk | Camping Interaction Shown |
|---|---|
| Field Guide | Reduces the cooldown for adding Camping features. Rank 1 was shown reducing it by 8%. |
| Permanence | Extends benefits gained from resting at a camp. Rank 1 was shown increasing their duration by 50%. |
| Reagent Economy | Tier 1 Camping features no longer require reagents to craft. |
This is especially important because each character can choose its own Legacy allocation. A character heavily focused on professions, leveling, or outdoor play could invest more heavily into Camping-related convenience while another character spends those points elsewhere.
Camping Is Part of a Much Larger Profession Overhaul
Camping is only one part of Blizzard's attempt to make professions matter throughout the entire Level 1-60 journey.
WoW Forever is adding more than 600 new profession recipes across different professions and skill ranges, while many existing recipes are also being changed.
Blizzard's stated goal is for profession choice to have a noticeable effect even at low levels rather than becoming something players largely ignore until reaching the endgame.
Between equipment recipes, redesigned Cooking, campsite contributions, profession workspaces, and advanced Blueprints from dungeon bosses, professions are being tied much more closely to actually exploring and progressing through Azeroth.
Why Blizzard Created Camping
Camping is ultimately as much a social system as it is a profession system.
One of Blizzard's design goals for WoW Forever is encouraging what the developers describe as spontaneous or serendipitous player interactions. In original Classic, seeing another player in the world can be useful, but it can also mean competing over the same herb, mining node, quest enemy, or objective.
Camping tries to create the opposite interaction.
If you encounter another player who has placed a campsite, that player has potentially created something useful for you. You can stop, contribute your own profession object, rest, gain a benefit, refresh your food, repair or use a profession utility, and then continue on your way.
The restriction of one contributed object per player reinforces that idea. The most useful camps are designed to be built collectively rather than created entirely by one character.
Can You Place a Camp Anywhere?
Camping is intended primarily for the outdoor world, but Blizzard has already hinted that where you create a campsite will matter.
The developers specifically warned players to choose their campsite locations carefully, suggesting that some areas of Azeroth may be safer or more suitable for resting than others.
However, Blizzard has not yet explained the complete placement rules. We do not currently know every restricted zone, whether camps can overlap, how close they can be placed to towns or dungeon entrances, or exactly how Camping behaves in contested PvP areas.
What We Still Do Not Know About Camping
Despite the amount shown at BlizzCon, several important Camping details still need to be tested or confirmed during Beta:
- The complete list of all three campsite objects for every profession
- The exact effects and values of every campsite buff
- The complete list of profession skill requirements
- Every advanced Blueprint recipe and its dungeon boss source
- The material cost of campsite objects
- The recipes and requirements for the five-object and 10-object Campfires
- The exact amount of time required to rest before receiving campsite buffs
- The exact behavior of the one-hour campsite object cooldown
- How long a campsite remains active
- Complete campsite placement restrictions
- Whether there are restrictions near towns, instances, or important objectives
- How camps behave in PvP and contested areas
- Whether multiple nearby camps can overlap their services or buffs
- The full selection of campsite vendors and repair services
- How much the Camping system changes as Legacy spending caps increase later in Forever
WoW Forever Beta begins on September 17, 2026, which should give us our first chance to fully test campsite placement, profession contributions, cooldowns, Blueprints, and the interaction between Camping and Legacy.
We will continue updating this guide throughout Beta and after World of Warcraft: Forever launches on November 4, 2026.
