Saviors of Uldum: Three New Cards Revealed

Recommended Posts

EVIL Recruiter, Riftcleaver and Desert Obelisk are the latest cards to be revealed from Saviors of Uldum.

German Youtuber Thanh has just posted his card reveal for Saviors of Uldum: EVIL Recruiter! Two other cards were also revealed last night, one on the Japanese website Gamewatch and one on Reddit.

EVIL RecruiterRiftcleaverDesert Obelisk

EVIL Recruiter is Thanh's reveal - it's the Lackey synergy card for Warlock that was hinted at back when Weaponized Wasp was released. It's a lot of stats for not a lot of Mana, so it seems like a shoe-in for Zoolock. Check out the full German reveal video below:

Riftcleaver is another addition to Warlock, revealed by Gamewatch. It's a hard removal option which calls to mind Vilespine SlayerOmega Devastator and the Death Knight token spell Obliterate. All of those cards were and are extremely strong, so it's in good company. Its power comes at a hefty price though, especially if you're using it to destroy massive Minions like Mountain Giant.

Desert Obelisk is the last card we have to share with you this morning. It asks you to complete the small puzzle of getting three copies onto the board if you want to make use of it. Achieve this, and it will start eating away at your opponent's board and Health total fairly rapidly. It seems a little steeply costed at 5 Mana, but it's a fun deck-building challenge.

The honour of revealing Desert Obelisk went to /u/Scarlas, who was the first to solve a treasure trail left by /u/SecretsOfUldum. Here's how he did it:

Quote

How I solved it: /u/SecretsOfUldum made a post titled "7a 62 70 65 68 74 7a 76 66 63 67 67 75 74 61 63 58 6c 34 76 6b 70 72 20".

Converting to ascii gives "zbpehtzvfcggutacXl4vkpr".

I applied rot13 to get "mocrugmisptthgnpKy4ixce"

Reversing and rotating gives "httpsimgurcomecxi4yKpng"

Finally, I added some punctuation to get "https://imgur.com/ecxi4yK.png"

(Source)

Simple, right?

Check out our Saviors of Uldum hub for more info on the next expansion and every card revealed so far.

Evil Recruiter looks pretty much like an auto-include in every Warlock deck with lackey synergy. 8/8 worth of stats and a lackey's battlecry for 4 mana? Sign me in!

Riftcleaver fits the theme of Warlock considering his own life as yet another resource, but I'm a bit dubitative. Sure it's a massive tempo swing getting a huge threat on the board while removing your opponent's, but the minions you want hard removal for are also the ones that'll hurt you. A lot.

Desert Obelsik I find hard to evaluate. The threat of a potential massive amount ofdamage is real, but having to duplicate 0/5 minions AND have them stick on the board somehow... I dont know. Obviously, there's always Aviana - Kun the Forgotten King shenanigans in wild, but that seems like so much effort for very little practical gain.

Are we sure about the English name "EVIL Recruiter"? The German word "Beschwörerin" would rather translate to "Summoner". Also, EVIL Recruiter sounds confusingly similar to EVIL Conscripter which already exists. Furthermore, in some languages (like French) both would even translate to the same name.

Yup, EVIL Recruiter is the name of the card as listed on the official Hearthstone site - localisation can be a funny business. Summoner would make more sense to me as well for what it's worth!

That will all depend of what tools we are given to support such a deck. Right now I don't see it in Standard, but some classes have at least preliminary support:

Druid has Gloop Sprayer

Mage has Archmage Arugal, Splitting Image and Hex Lord Malacrass (Power of Creation missed by 1 mana, sigh)

Priest has Spirit of the Dead, Seance, Vivid Nightmare and Power Word: Replicate

Rogue has Lab Recruiter, Togwaggle's Scheme and Tak Nozwhisker

Shaman has Eureka!

And for all classes there is Baleful Banker, Augmented Elekk, Dollmaster Dorian and Faceless Manipulator. I believe Rogue has the best cards but it would have to go control which isn't its strength. So maybe Priest has more chances, as it is much better at stalling the game, and doesn't have any strong deck at the moment anyway, so... But we need at least one more strong card to support the concept.

Meanwhile I can't wait to see a video of a Mage with Khadgar getting 4 copies of Desert Obelisk from Conjurer's Calling 😄 Also we could see fun Tavern Brawl decks using that card at some point.

OK, thanks. Well Blizzard had changed a few card names recently so I suppose it could still change even after the release if they realize it causes too much confusion.

Maybe the German name is different exactly because the straightforward translation would be confusing, in which case they may use the same tactics for the French translation and we will have a "summoner" too.

The real problem is that most of those cards only get you more copies in hand or deck, and you need them in play all at once. Which will be problematic with their cost of 5, and a 0/5 chances of survival.

Some weird Miracle Priest hybrid based on Princess Talanji, maybe. Play the original tower, get a bunch of copies in hand (through deck if necessary), dump a bunch of them with Talanji. I'll give it a shot when it launches if I pull an Obelisk, just for fun.

Barring some way to make obelisks stealth or such, i can't see them being used.    Maybe if you only needed two of them?

Desert Obelisk is just unplayable because even if you ever achieve to have 3 of them if the opponent destroy one all the others become useless ...

also 5 random dmg is just horrible you coulda end hit a 1/1 with 5 dmg than have your Obelisk killed the turn after...

also the cost 5? for a 0/5? It doesn't even have a spell immunity... and right now with all the rushes it will be hard if you even have 1 on the board.

The warlock cards are both good but has synergy with 3 of the lackeys since the one that require rush and the one that transform will be wasted if you have no board... still is a 3/3 + 5/5 for 4 mana making the waste not to cry about.

The 7/5 is a massive swing againt cards like Ysera that have high cost and low atk... essential bury every hope of Divine Spirit priest as soon as you kill a 9+ hp minion dropping a 7/5 as a parting gift

You take damage based on Health not Attack, so low attack doesn't really help. I don't think I would want to take 12 face damage to remove Ysera. Would work well on a Leeroy Jenkins though.

Blizzards german localisations are almost unbearable ("Höllschrei"). I doubt that many thoughts went into translating recruiter to Beschwörer. The direct translation "Rekrutierer" would be possible, but very unusual. So they went with sth. they knew that kinda fits the mechanic, but not the flavour of the original. Pretty lame.

I really thought was atk... well taking damage based on health is pretty bad since it is good only to kill off 1 hp minions with big atk but warlock has plenty AoE.

The only reason to play this is the body + removing something that won't kill you doing so (so I guess not Ysera) like a 5 hp target that is outside of other removals range. If you can land his 7 dmg to the enemy face you made up for the hp otherwise was just a bad deal

Rewards Summon 100 Dreadsteeds to earn a Rise of Shadows Card Pack Dual-Class Heroes

The Dual-Class Arena Hallow’s Eve dress-up party is back! When you start an Arena run during the Doom in the Tomb event, you’ll choose a Hero, then a Hero Power, and card offerings will feature cards from BOTH of those classes, in addition to neutral cards.
Players who have an active Arena run when this begins will have their current run ended and will receive an Arena Ticket as compensation. To ensure that players have a chance to try out this devilish dual-class deck-building dress-up party, anyone who logs in during each of the first two weeks will receive one Arena Ticket per week! This event coincides with our normal Arena rotation. Starting with today’s patch and lasting until our next major update, 23 cards from across Hearthstone history are temporarily stepping out of Wild and back into Standard. To ensure that everyone can participate in this meta-mixing event, we’ll be granting everyone free copies of each card (these copies cannot be disenchanted or crafted) so they can add these heavy-hitters to their decks and get straight into the action. These cards will be considered "event" cards, which essentially means that they're temporary copies and not permanent additions to your collection. Even if you already own the cards you'll still receive these event copies, and when the event ends they'll disappear.
IMPORTANT NOTE: While these cards were re-introduced during the Doom in the Tomb event, they will remain in Standard past the event's conclusion, until the launch of our next major update. More details will be shared, including exact end dates and times, in the coming weeks.

Blizzard today announced a new event coming to the game on October 8. It's called Doom in the Tomb. Check out what's in store for Hearthstone this month!
      UPDATE
Placeholder for tweet 1180177096972222464 Blizzard (Source)
Legends have told of dangers lurking within the Haunted Temple of Uldum and the grand ancient treasures they conceal. Of course, “treasure” was all anyone had to mention to get Reno and Rafaam on board, and now their sights are set on acquiring the temple’s powerful artifacts for their own campaigns!
It won’t be an easy task, though. While our Heroes and Villains battle to push deeper through the Haunted Temple, the Headless Horseman has resorted to a nefarious contingency and opened a sealed sarcophagus full of WILD terrors. Now it will be up to you to aid the conquests of good, or E.V.I.L, in a race to uncover the tomb’s precious secrets and escape the doom in the tomb!

      Step into the Haunted Tomb
The spooky spelunking adventures begin at 10:00 AM PT on October 8 and end at 9:00 AM PT on October 30 – three weeks packed full of new activities to participate in:

      Unique Tavern Brawls

Week 1: Doom in the Tomb, Part 1 Gear up with your favorite member from the League of E.V.I.L and delve into the Haunted Temple, full of the baddest bosses in Uldum! Treasures from the Tomb!

23 cards from across Hearthstone history have been unsealed from Wild and unleashed by the Headless Horseman! Until our next major update, these cards are stepping out of Wild and will be playable in Standard matches.
Even if you already own the cards, you'll still receive these event copies. When the event ends they'll disappear, just like the Headless Horseman himself!
IMPORTANT NOTE: While these cards were re-introduced during the Doom in the Tomb event, they will remain in Standard past the event's conclusion, until the launch of our next major update. More details will be shared, including exact end dates and times, in the coming weeks.

Players who have an active Arena run when this begins will have their current run ended and will receive an Arena Ticket as compensation. Today we get a look at some of the smaller stuff coming up in Hearthstone's future, including new events like dual-class arenas, 23 old cards returning to standard (Ragnaros and N'zoth were mentioned), new class portraits for 1000 wins, and plenty of quality of life improvements!
      Behind the Doors (source)
While we’re constantly recruiting lackeys, tinkering with experimental tech, and delving into dusty tombs to bring you new Hearthstone expansions and Adventures, we’re also hard at work on some awesome, albeit less flashy, new stuff. In this blog we’ll shine a light on some of the smaller, but still exciting new features, events, and changes coming to Hearthstone in the near future.

      Adding More Events

After the overwhelmingly positive response to the recent Fire Fest-E.V.I.L. event, we’re looking for more opportunities to introduce even more large-scale in-game events with rewards, themed Tavern Brawls, and changes that could temporarily (or permanently!) create fun new Hearthstone experiences for players.
We’re starting off with a new event in just a couple weeks featuring Dungeon Run-inspired Tavern Brawls, dual-class Arenas, Legendary quest rewards, and some meta-shifting changes outlined in the “Shaking up Standard Play” section below.
We’ll have more to share on this sensationally spooky event on October 4, but in the meantime . . . try not to lose your head!

      Shaking up Standard Play

Now that the Saviors of Uldum Standard ladder experience has solidified, we think it’s a great time to throw a wrench or two (or twenty-three) in the gears. We’re going to be pulling some of the most popular and game-changing cards from across Hearthstone history, including
Ragnaros the Firelord and N'Zoth, the Corruptor, out of Wild and dropping them back into Standard for a limited time. To ensure that everyone can participate in this meta-mixing event, we’ll be granting everyone free copies of each card (these copies cannot be disenchanted or crafted) so they can add these heavy-hitters to their decks and get them into the action.
We’ll be sharing more details (including the full list of 23 cards) in a blog update on October 4. Stay tuned!

      1,000 Win Class Portraits
Looking ahead, we want to continue celebrating personal successes and milestones for all you dedicated Hearthstone players. Our next major update will introduce some really cool new portraits that you can earn by earning 1,000 wins with each class. Wins earned before this update goes live will retroactively count towards these totals. Take a look at a couple of examples below and start stacking up those wins!

      Quality of Life Improvements

      Alternate Search Terms
We want it to be easier to quickly find the cards you’re looking for while deckbuilding, so we’re adding alternate search terms for some hard-to-type cards. We’ll be adding common misspellings and simplified versions of leetspeak card names (found on some Mech minions). For example, searching “snip” or “snap” will now show you SN1P-SN4P. While this feature will only be enabled for a few commonly misspelled cards at first, we’ll be able to add even more alternate search terms as needed.
This feature will also support languages other than English. For example, SN1P-SN4P in Latin American Spanish is “CL1C-CL4C”, so searching “clic” would return the expected results. Quest Changes
While not included in our next major update, here’s a preview of some of the changes we’re making to quests a little further down the line.
We’re cutting some of the less popular daily quests and tuning down some of their requirements to make them quicker and easier to complete. We’ll also be adding some new quests to the pool to mix things up! We split most daily quests into two buckets: Easy (50g) and Slightly More Difficult (60g). Rerolling a Slightly More Difficult (60g) quest (like Play 10 Beasts) always gives you an Easy (50g) quest, so players can be guaranteed to get an Easy quest every day if they want. We love  Murlocs and Pirates as much as anyone, but it should be your choice if you decide to complete their quests.
We’re excited to be bringing these new features, events, and other changes to Hearthstone soon. Please let us know what you think on social media or the official Hearthstone forums. Until then, we’ll see you in the Tavern!
