Forever Elemental Shaman Stat Priority

Last Updated: Oct 28, 2026 - 12:00 AM (today)

On this page, you will find out the optimal PvE stat priority for your Elemental Shaman in WoW Forever. We first present the stat priority, before delving into more complex explanations.

1.

Elemental Shaman Stat Priority

Welcome to the Stats page for Elemental Shaman. This page is intended for Level 60 players, but it can still be useful at early levels due to the detailed explanations on how each stat works and what it contributes to your damage output.

Keep in mind that with Forever, many items are changing entirely and we do not have a full picture of what gearing will look like to this point. As more information is gathered, stat recommendations may change.

Spell Power
Hit Chance (to 17%)
Critical Strike
Intellect
Mp5

Each stat will provide a unique bonus, with many also providing bonuses to multiple stats.

Stat Bonus
Spell Damage Increases the damage of all of your spells.
Hit Increases the Hit Chance of your Spells, and caps at 17% against end game bosses.
Critical Strike This stat increases the chance for your spells to occasionally deal a much larger amount of damage, also known as getting a crit. The damage bonus can be increased further by the Elemental Fury Icon Elemental Fury talent.
Intellect Each Intellect point provides 15 Mana and slightly increases Spell Crit chance.
MP5 Points of MP5 provide constant Mana Regeneration, regardless of whether you are inside the 5-second rule or not.
Spirit Provides a large amount of Mana Regeneration if you have not finished a spell in the last 5 seconds. Mindfulness Icon Mindfulness also allows for 50% of your Spirit-based Mana regeneration to still work even while you are casting.

Elemental Shaman Stats Explained

In this section, we will break down each stat further and give details beyond what was found in their basic descriptions.

2.1.

Spell Damage

Spell Damage is the simplest stat to understand, as it increases the amount of damage dealt by your spells by the amount of Spell Damage you have, weighted by their spell power coefficient which depends on their cast time: faster spells gain less benefit from Spell Damage than slower casting spells.

Spell Damage Explained

As explained before, the amount Spell Damage actually contributes towards each individual spell depends on their cast time. The way to calculate the coefficient for each spell is as follows:

Base Cast Time (before talents) / 3.5 to a maximum of 1 (100%) coefficient

Instant spells are treated as having a 1.5 cast time due to the global cooldown, which translates into a 1.5 / 3.5 ~= 43% coefficient, and damage over time spells gain full benefit over the whole duration of the spell. Actual Spell Damage gains are calculated as follows:

Spell Damage x Spell Power Coefficient = Extra Damage

As a practical example, Lightning Bolt Icon Lightning Bolt has a ~71% coefficient due to its 2.5 second baseline cast time and would thus gain 71 extra damage from a Spell Damage gain of 100.

Here are the calculated Spell Coefficients for Elemental-relevant spells:

  • Flame Shock Icon Flame Shock – 0.214 (direct), 0.1 (DoT)
  • Earth Shock Icon Earth Shock & Frost Shock Icon Frost Shock – 0.386
  • Lightning Bolt Icon Lightning Bolt – 0.714
  • Chain Lightning Icon Chain Lightning – 0.571
  • Fire Nova Icon Fire Nova – 0.143
  • Searing Totem Icon Searing Totem – 0.017
  • Magma Totem Icon Magma Totem – 0.033
2.2.

Hit

Hit reduces the chance that your offensive spells will miss. Every spell has a baseline chance to miss, which is based on the level difference between you and your target.

Due to Tidal Focus Icon Tidal Focus, 5% of your Hit will come from talents, and thus only 12% is needed from gear in order to be Hit capped against end game Bosses.

Hit Chance Explained

Offensive spells in WoW Forever have a chance to miss that depends on the level difference between you and the enemy, as displayed in the detailed table below:

Level difference Base miss chance
−3 or lower1% (floor)
−22%
−13%
04%
+15%
+26%
+3 (Raid Bosses)17%
+428%
2.3.

Critical Strike

Critical Strike gear increases your Spell Critical chance by a fixed percentage. Spell Critical Strikes are 50% more effective than regular spells, but Elemental Shamans can spec into Elemental Fury Icon Elemental Fury, which increases this bonus to 100% more effectiveness when you critically strike.

2.4.

Intellect

Intellect increases your Mana and slightly increases your Spell Critical Strike chance. While its main upside is making your Mana last for longer in encounters, it also grants a small direct DPS increase from the extra Critical Strike.

Intellect Scaling

Each point of Intellect will increase your stats by the following.

  • Mana
    • 1 Point of Intellect increases your Maximum Mana by 15.
  • Critical Strike
    • 54 points of Intellect increase your chance to Critical Strike by 1%.
2.5.

MP5

Mana per 5 provides steady Mana regeneration independently of whether you are casting or not, equal to the amount of it you have every 5 seconds. This is not impacted by whether or not you have recently been casting, allowing for full value at all times.

2.6.

Spirit

Spirit provides a large amount of Mana Regeneration while outside the 5-second rule. Mindfulness Icon Mindfulness allows this regeneration to continue at 50% power, but it is still a fairly uninteresting stat due to Elemental's caster playstyle requiring constant casting for maximum DPS. If you are unfamiliar with the 5-second rule, click below for a detailed explanation.

5-Second Rule

Whenever you finish casting a spell, your Spirit-based Mana regeneration stops for 5 seconds, after which it returns in full. Mindfulness Icon Mindfulness allows this regeneration to continue at 50% power while casting, but the nature of this rule means that if you are constantly casting your Spirit-based Mana regeneration is always at 50% power.
