This page covers all known information about raids in WoW: Forever. This page will contain all up-to-date information regarding raid releases, how they work, and links to all of our strategy guides.
Raids in WoW Forever
WoW Forever completely re-imagines the core raid progression from World of Warcraft. For its first tier, Forever will bring out three raids: the classic Onyxia's Lair, together with two new raids: Hyjal Summit and Barrow Deeps.
| Raid | Raid Size |
|---|---|
| Barrow Deeps | 10 |
| Hyjal Summit | 20 |
| Onyxia's Lair | 40 |
Raid Sizes
WoW Forever will feature a plethora of alternative raid styles and sizes. Unlike the modern version of the game, Blizzard has created 10-, 20-, and 40-player raids.
10- and 20-player raids will take the center stage, with new ones being added with each tier. 40-player raids will be added less often.
Tier pieces will drop in all three raid sizes. This means that a group that decides to only raid 10-player raids or only 20-player raids won't be missing out on these important gear milestones.
Raid Difficulty
Unlike modern WoW, Forever raids aren't being designed expecting hundreds of attempts to defeat an encounter. Preparation is part of the challenge, as difficulty can come from getting the right gear, consumables, or having the right strategy.
Raid Loot and Chase Drops
In WoW Forever, we will never know the stats of items for a new tier beforehand. These are hidden until a player first loots the item.
Besides that, every boss will have "chase items". These are rare, very strong items, similar to Dragonspine Trophy from The Burning Crusade.
There isn't a one-size-fits-all gear setup for specs in Forever. There will be plenty of items that will provide extra bonuses against a certain mob type or work while in a specific environment. For instance, when fighting against Onyxia, you might want to bring items with bonuses against Dragons.
Due to the horizontal progression of Forever, there will be a smaller power gain from one tier to the next. There will be a small vertical progression as more tiers are released, but running a previous tier raid will still be something that may lead you to upgrades, making raids relevant for longer.
Legendary Items in WoW Forever
Throughout Forever's tiers, players should expect to meet not only old but also new legendary items. The first one is tied to the new Hyjal Summit raid.
At the present moment, there isn't any other information about this new legendary item besides its source being Hyjal Summit.
World Buffs in Raids
Unlike Classic WoW, players cannot bring World Buffs into raids. You can still use them for Dungeons or open-world activities, but they are stripped from you in raids.
Raid Difficulties or Flex Mode
Blizzard has said that there are no plans to add extra raid difficulties to raids in Forever (e.g., Heroic or Mythic).
Similarly, raids in Forever will not have any scaling to support a flexible number of players. This means that if you have 21 players around for a Hyjal Summit run, one will need to sit out for the team.
The Barrow Deeps
The Barrow Deeps is a 10-player raid located in Mount Hyjal. Barrow Deeps is a famous Warcraft location, featured first in Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, during the Night Elf campaign, as it served as Illidan Stormrage's prison for 10,000 years.
- Required Level: 60
- Entrance: Mount Hyjal
- Bosses: 8
Hyjal Summit
Hyjal Summit will be the first 20-player raid in WoW Forever. The raid takes place in Mount Hyjal, where players will deal with the aftermath of Archimonde's defeat.
Hyjal Summit is by far the largest raid in WoW Forever. This raid is unlike the TBC version, as it takes place in the present, not a time-travel turn of events.
- Required Level: 60
- Entrance: Mount Hyjal
- Bosses: 13
Onyxia's Lair
One of the most iconic raids in World of Warcraft, Onyxia's Lair is back for Forever. The raid will be the only 40-player raid at launch, featuring a fight against the broodmother herself.
- Required Level: 60
- Entrance: Dustwallow Marsh
- Bosses: 1
