Forever Frost Mage Stat Priority

Last Updated: Oct 26, 2026 - 8:00 AM (1d ago)

On this page, you will find out the optimal PvE stat priority for your Frost Mage in WoW Forever. We first present the stat priority, before delving into more complex explanations.

1.

Frost Mage Stat Priority

Welcome to the Stats page for Frost Mage. While this page is intended for Level 60, and provides insight into stats that won't be available on gear until close to the endgame, there is extra detail that you might find useful in your leveling journey and getting a deeper understanding of the class and how the stats interact with it.

Hit Chance (to 17%)
Spell Power
Critical Strike
Intellect
Mp5
Spirit
Disclaimer Keep in mind that the individual value of each stat affects the value of other stats, and that much of the information on this page is based on pre-existing knowledge and theorycrafting that happened on Classic and Era-realms, as well as our limited experience with the WoW Forever Beta. WoW Forever may have a few surprises for us when it comes to end-game gearing and stats. We will be updating this page frequently come WoW Forever's releaseto ensure we provide you with the most current and vetted information!

Each stat will provide the following effects.

Stat Bonus
Hit Chance Reduces the chance to miss enemies with all your attacks.
Spell Damage Increases the damage of your spells.
Critical Strike Increases the Critical Strike Chance of your spells.
Intellect Increases your maximum Mana and grants some Spell Critical Chance.
MP5 Stands for Mana per 5, which is the amount of mana you restore every 5 seconds. This is not impacted by whether or not you have recently or are actively casting spells. You always gain the full MP5.
Spirit Increases your mana regeneration when you are not casting. Additionally, it will pause for 5 seconds every time you cast a spell that costs mana. Using your wand does not interrupt Spirit's mana regen.
TipsRemember the 5 Second Rule!

Mana is often a limiter in how fast you are able to level. Spells are extremely expensive and drinking can take a while. In order to speed up as much as possible, you will want to make sure you remember the 5-Second rule. Whenever you cast a spell, your Mana regeneration will stop for 5 full seconds. After the 5 seconds, it will begin again regenerating an amount based on your Spirit. With this rule in mind, it can often be worth using your wand when an enemy is close to dead. This will regenerate your mana sooner, so you can continue leveling.

Further along this guide we'll look at each of the stats and how they work in more detail.

1.1.

Hit Chance

A missed spell does no damage. Worse still, it can't apply any on-hit effects, and we could waste our precious procs on a spell that misses. Your miss chance in PvE against a target is a flat %, which increases as the target is higher level than you. This chance is reasonably managed for your level up to +2 through talents alone, and then +3 will jump up significantly as this is the intended raid-boss level.

Hit Chance Table

See below for the hit / miss chances and their respective hit chance caps.

Spell Hit Requirements by Level Difference
Level Difference Hit Needed for Cap
Same level (Level 60 vs 60) 4%
+1 level (Level 60 vs 61) 5%
+2 levels (Level 60 vs 62) 6%
+3 levels / Raid Boss (Level 60 vs 63) 17%

You only want hit chance relevant to the content you're tackling. A Level 20 player playing through level 18-22 leveling content will only need a small amount of Hit Chance to cap, compared to a level 60 player entering end-game raiding.

2 points in Elemental Precision Icon Elemental Precision while leveling will suit most needs. With 3 points, you need an additional 11% from gear to reach hit-cap on raid bosses.

1.2.

Spell Damage

Spell Damage does what it says on the tin: increases your spell damage. However, the way it interacts with spells is different for each class and each spec. Click below for a more detailed breakdown for Frost Mage.

Spell Damage Explained

When calculating Spell Damage, it is important to understand that 100 Spell Damage does not increasea spell's healing by 100. Each spell has an attached Spell Damage Co-Efficient that you need to calculate with. The equation is as follows.

Spell Damage x Spell Damage Co-efficient = Damage Dealt

Below we will the list Spell Power coefficients on your core damage spells at max rank.

  • Frostbolt Icon Frostbolt – 0.814
  • Cone of Cold Icon Cone of Cold – 0.129
  • Arcane Missiles Icon Arcane Missiles – 0.286 (Per Hit)
  • Blizzard Icon Blizzard – 0.042 (Per Hit)
  • Frost Blast Icon Frost Blast – 0.271

With these numbers in mind, we can run some example calculations. If we have 100 Spell Power and multiply that by 0.814 we would get 81.4, which means that Frostbolt Icon Frostbolt would have its damage increased by 81.4 when we add 100 Spell Damage.

Frost Mages also have the Winter's Chill Icon Winter's Chill talent which even further increases the scaling from Spell Damage.

You may also come across items with Frost Damage on them. Value these equally to Spell Damage, as it applies to almost all of our damage. These items have a higher item budget, meaning the equivalent level item might be 10 Spell Damage vs 16 Frost Damage.

1.3.

Critical Strike

Frost Mages value Critical Strike quite highly. Due to the Ice Shards Icon Ice Shards talent, frost spells have a bonus 100% critical strike damage, improving crit's value. Even when considering the Shatter Icon Shatter talent, we want more crit chance than 50%, as well as it boosts non-frozen spells.

1.4.

Intellect

Intellect increases your Mana and Spell Critical Chance. It also increaes Weapon Skill improvement rate, which helps with Wand weapon skill. A larger mana pool will mean you will get to cast from a full mana bar for longer, and keep doing DPS throughout fights.

It will also increase the value gained from Evocation Icon Evocation, as it generates mana quickly enough to fill more than an entire bar.

One drawback is a larger mana pool will take longer to fill with drinking or passive regeneration, so while it's a priority, you don't want to neglect Spirit and mana regeneration.

Intellect Scaling

Each point of Intellect will increase your stats by the following.

  • Mana
    • 1 Point of Intellect grants 15 to your Max Mana total.
  • Critical Strike
    • 54 points of Intellect will reward 1% Spell Critical Strike chance.
  • Weapon Skill
    • Each point of Intellect will slightly increase your chance to level up a weapon skill.
1.5.

MP5

MP5 means "Mana Per 5", or "Mana generated every 5 seconds." This applies while you are in combat, and even while casting spells.

Frost Mage does not get the passive mana benefits from the Arcane spec's Arcane Meditation Icon Arcane Meditation, but Frost Mage's spells are not nearly as expensive as Arcane. This makes MP5 an effective resource management tool for Frost Mage.

1.6.

Spirit

Increases your Health and Mana regeneration per 5 seconds while not casting. It also increases the mana regenerated by Evocation Icon Evocation. Across extended fights where you've exhausted all your resources, Spirit will help regen it back quicker so you can get back to doing full damage.

Spirit's Mana regen is restricted to the 5-second rule. If you are unfamiliar with this, check below for a detailed explanation.

5-Second Rule

Whenever you cast a spell, your Mana regeneration will stop for 5 full seconds. After the 5 seconds, it will begin again regenerating an amount based on your Spirit. With talents such as Arcane Meditation Icon Arcane Meditation, you can bypass it to some extent. But with this rule in mind, it can often be worth stopping casts when an enemy is close to dead or you find yourself in situations where the enemies will die soon. That way you can start the process of regenerating your mana which will save you a ton of time in the long run.

If you find yourself completely out of resources, continue doing damage with Shoot Icon Shoot while your Mana regenerates.

1.7.

Haste

Haste decreases the cast time on your spells, and reduces your Global Cooldown time. Global Cooldown is a forced cooldown applied to all of your abilities, including instant cast ones such as Ice Lance Icon Ice Lance.

Simplified, 10% haste means you can cast 10% more spells in a given window. However, this also means more mana used over this given period. And if you run out of resources, then you do significantly less damage until you regen it back.

Until we know how Mana manegement looks at Level 60 in end-game gear, it's better to make spells stronger than cast more of them.

1.8.

Stamina

Dead DPS deal no damage. Stamina will do nothing to increase your DPS, but will help with your survivability by increasing your max health.

Note: Undead DPS is very slightly increased by Stamina, as Touch of the Grave Icon Touch of the Grave scales off of Max HP.
