On this page, you will find out the optimal PvE stat priority for your Protection Paladin in WoW Forever. We first present the stat priority, before delving into more complex explanations.
Protection Paladin Stat Priority
Welcome to the Stats page for Protection Paladin. This page is intended for Level 60 players, but it can still be useful to understand what each stat does and how they can benefit you. It is important to note that Forever is changing a lot about the game and we are unsure what to expect in many ways. Without knowing what tank mechanics may look like in raid, we can be less confident in the value of certain defensive stats. As more information is gathered is gathered, stat recommendations may change.
FAQWhat about Crush cap (Avoidance)?
When facing an enemy higher level than you, they can occasionally hit with you with a "Crushing Blow". This is an attack that deals a decent amount of extra damage. With enough Avoidance (Dodge + Parry + Block + Miss Chance), you can prevent this from happening. Most tanks will want some level of Avoidance to help mitigate these large hits, but we are currently unsure how this will look in Forever at endgame. This makes it incredibly difficult to evaluate before the release of the game, so keep an eye out for updates once players gain access to the new raids and gear.
Each stat will provide a unique bonus, with many also providing bonuses to multiple stats.
| Stat | Bonus |
|---|---|
| Stamina | Increases your maximum Health. |
| Spell Power | Increases the damage and healing of spells. |
| Intellect | Increases overall Mana pool and Spell Critical Strike chance. |
| Strength | Increases melee attack power and grants Block value. |
| Block | Gives you a chance to block enemy melee and ranged attacks, reducing the damage of the attack. |
| Defense | Provides you with Dodge, Parry, Block, and reduced chance to be both hit and receive critical strikes. |
Below we will break down each stat a bit more beyond the basic descriptions. Additionally, you can find some of the intricate math behind each stat.
Stamina
Stamina is an incredibly important stat to increase your max Health, giving you the ability to live hits that would typically kill you. You will gain 10 max Health per point of Stamina.
Spell Power
The overwhelming majority of Prot Paladin spells scale directly with Spell Power, making this a very important stat. While doing more damage can be great for the damage meters, it is also incredibly important to maintain threat on enemy mobs. The more damage you are able to output, the better your overall threat will be.
Intellect
Intellect increases your Mana, Spell Critical Strike Chance, and Weapon Skill
improvement rate. Most of the stat's power comes from the fact it gives you a
larger Mana pool, giving your more casts of
Consecration and other key
abilities. With so much of our threat relying on Consecration, we need to make
sure we have as much uptime of it as possible and an increased Mana pool just
makes it easier to achieve this. Additionally, it will reduce the risk of you
running out of Mana during a long combat window.
Intellect Scaling
Strength
Strength increases your melee Attack Power and Block Value. With melee damage
and
Holy Strike, Strength can add a bit of extra damage even if it is
not as powerful as Spell Power. The extra Block Value it provides is also a nice
bonus.
- Attack Power – 1 point of Attack Power per point of Strength.
- Block Value – 1 point of Block Value per 20 points of Strength.
Block, Parry, and Dodge
While Block, Parry, and Dodge all work slightly differently, they contribute to a category of mitigation/avoidance. This becomes important anytime you are tanking enemies that are a higher level than you. Having enough Avoidance can can prevent you from taking a "Crushing Blow" from an enemy. Currently we are unsure how important this will be at max level, but we will break down these stats regardless:
- Block – chance to block enemy melee and ranged attacks, reducing the damage of the attack.
- Parry – chance to completely nullify melee attacks.
- Dodge – chance to completely avoid incoming physical melee attacks.
Keep in mind that Parry and Dodge only have a chance to nullify damage from the front. Meaning that you will want to always try to keep enemies in front of you. For more detailed information on these stats, you can click the button below.
Block, Parry, and Dodge
Defense
Defense is a stat solely desired by tanks and is used to increase your survivability. 1 Point of Defense increases your Block, Parry, Dodge and chance to be missed by 0.04%. Once you have 440 Defense, you will be able to be fully immune to critical strikes from bosses. Extra defense beyond this will still provide an increase to survivability, but the stat becomes much less important.
