Welcome to our Feral Druid Leveling Guide for WoW Forever. This guide covers the basics you'll want to keep in mind while leveling, helping you spend less time figuring things out and more time exploring the world.
Feral Druid Leveling Guide
Feral Druids is one of the best and most versatile specializations for leveling
in World of Warcraft Forever. The spec can switch between DPS and Tank roles with ease,
has some of the best early game mobility, as well as the means to heal themselves when necessary.
The only noteworthy part where leveling that will be a bit slower, is getting to Level 10 and 20,
at which point you gain access to
Bear Form and
Cat Form respectively.
This page will offer recommendations for talents, areas to level in, noteworthy items, and other useful information for your journey. By using the Level-sliders you will find information that is relevant to wherever you are in your leveling journey. We hope this will be helpful to you on your way to max level.
WoW Forever aims to make the journey to 60 a core part of the gaming experience. There will be countless roads to getting to Level 60, and if you want to take a different path than what is outlined in this guide, or use different talents because they seem more fun to you, then you absolutely should! These are only recommendations, not mandatory rules to leveling.
Good single-target damage and decent AoE damage
Ability to stealth in Cat Form
Incredible mobility in all situations
Great flexibility between roles
Very slow to level before forms are unlocked
No AoE damage in Cat Form
Leveling Talent Build
The intent of these talents is to make your leveling process as fast and smooth as possible.
The selected choices are not designed for Level 60 end-game content, and instead focus
on increasing your damage output in both
Bear Form and
Cat Form, as
well as taking movement speed and burst damage talents where possible.
By initially going through
Ferocity, a lot of your main leveling abilities
will become cheaper, which is the main value you will be getting until you reach Level
20.
Brutal Impact is taken to improve your
Bash in both duration
and effectiveness, since it is your only tool to give yourself a short break or
disengage from an enemy you need to run from.
Feral Swiftness and
Feral Instinct are taken to increase your efficiency in Cat Form
once you reach Level 20, but they also provide a small amount of value to playing in
Bear Form as well.
Once you reach Level 16 you can start the quest to unlock
Aquatic Form,
which is great for traveling through water and for completing quests underwater,
allowing you to stay below the surface indefinitely. This quest is worth completing
as early as possible.
Once you reach Level 20 you will be able to unlock Cat Form and unlock the ability
to Stealth through
Prowl, which will be an incredibly useful tool for
moving through areas with a lot of enemies that you don't need to kill for your
quests. You will be spending your next 5 talent points by taking
Savage Fury
and
Shredding Attacks, which increases your damage and reduces the Energy
cost of
Shred. Since Shred can only be used while you#re behind enemies it
will mainly be used as an opener until
Ravage is unlocked at Level 32, but
we still take Shredding Attacks to path to
Shifting Power,
which will be taken along with
Primal Bite.
At this point most of your talents will go into passive bonuses, either to improve
your damage, or taking
Feral Charge to further increase mobility. At Level
40 you unlock
Berserk, which for leveling is likely best used alongside your
newly unlocked
Dire Bear Form to deal significant damage to up to 3 enemies
at a time. Planning around this cooldown with a full Rage bar can allow for pulling
a large amount of enemies and quickly cleaving them down.
Feral Druid Leveling Rotation
Your rotation as Feral will vary depending on the form you use, and having access
to two forms on top of your normal Druid spells means you have a lot of flexibility
in your rotation. Which form is the best to use while leveling is based on
the situation you are dealing with. Often it can be faster to use
Bear Form
against multiple enemies, while
Cat Form is better against a single enemy.
You are also going to want to use your buffs
Mark of the Wild and
Thorns
to empower yourself and cause enemies that attack you to take damage. Thorns can be very
potent when fighting multiple enemies in Bear Form, but the buff only lasts 10 minutes, so
it can be useful to track the duration using the cooldown manager to help remind you to
recast it on yourself. We also recommend you cast these buffs on nearby
players that are completing quests, even if you don't party up together. If they
complete their quest faster as a result of your buffs, you'll have less competition
for mobs and quest items.
Make sure to use your healing spells to replenish your Health outside of combat, or during it
if you're worried you might die. When facing a particularly powerful enemy, pre-casting
Regrowth leaves a Healing over time effect for 21 seconds, which will carry
over into combat.
You also have tools to engage in combat at range, which can be really good for tagging enemies
in areas with a lot of players.
Moonfire is your strongest option for this. You can
also use
Faerie Fire once you unlock it at Level 18, which reduces the targets Armor,
and increases the damage they take from your auto-attacks and physical abilities.
Bear Form Single-Target Rotation
When you level in
Bear Form your entire rotation centers around building
Rage and using it on abilities to deal damage to enemies. Below you will find
the rough priority of when you want to use which ability. Some abilities
will not unlock until higher levels, and if you do not have access to them yet,
you can just ignore them in the list.
FAQHow Does Bear Form Rage Work?
Rage is your primary resource when using
Bear Form and
Dire Bear Form
and is naturally generated by dealing damage with your auto-attacks, or by taking damage
from enemies.
Enrage also lets you generate Rage on a 1-minute cooldown,
but reduces your Armor during its duration.
Auto-attacks generate 11.25 Rage when you hit an enemy, and 22.5 if you Critically Strike.
Note that
Maul replaces your auto-attack and therefore cannot generate Rage.
Because of this the effective Rage cost of Maul is quite a bit higher than the tooltip
value states. Rage that is based on taking damage follows a more complex formula,
but is based on the damage before modifiers such as Armor and other damage reduction
effects apply.
Outside of these natural Rage generators there are also a handful of talents that generate
Rage.
Furor grants 10 Rage when you enter
Bear Form,
Natural Reaction
generates 5 Rage when you Dodge an attack, and the most meaningful source is
Blood Frenzy,
which generates 5 Rage when you Critically Strike with your auto-attacks or any ability.
Finally there are items and consumables that can generate Rage such as
Rage Potion,
Wolfshead Helm, and
Barbaric Belt.
- Maintain your
Mark of the Wild and
Thorns buffs, and refresh them out
of combat when they are about to run out.
- Use
Enrage to generate Rage. This can be used out of combat before you
engage enemies to reduce the drawback of the Armor reduction.
- Use
Faerie Fire to reduce the Armor of your target, increasing the Physical
damage you deal to them.
- Use
Primal Bite on cooldown once unlocked, it is your main single-target
damage tool. Once you unlock
Berserk you can use Primal Bite every global
cooldown to deal maximum damage.
- Once unlocked,
Lacerate will be your filler when
Primal Bite is on cooldown.
Swipe can be used to fill when
Lacerate or
Primal Bite are not
unlocked yet.
- When you have no other button to press or you are sitting on a large amount of Rage,
you can use
Maul to spend extra Rage. Maul replaces your regular auto-attack,
which means that the effective Rage cost is higher than the listed cost.
Cat Form Single-Target Rotation
When leveling in
Cat Form your abilities will function slightly differently
than when you are in
Bear Form. Your main resource changes from Rage to Energy,
and you are also using Combo Points. You also gain access to a completely new set of
abilities. Here we list the rough priority of how you want to use these abilities.
FAQHow Do Cat Form Resources Work?
When you are playing in
Cat Form your main resources change into Energy
and Combo Points, where you spend Energy on abilities to build Combo Points, which are
then used to cast strong finishers.
Energy naturally regenerates at a rate of 10 Energy per second, and the only way
to otherwise generate it is through consumables like
Thistle Tea and
casting
Shifting Power, once unlocked, to convert Mana into Energy. Using
Shifting Power too often can drain your Mana completely, and it can be useful to
get an addon to help you track your Mana when you are in Shapeshift forms.
When you spend Energy on abilities like
Rake or
Shred you generate
Combo Points, which are displayed as red orbs attached to your enemy target
frame. You can have at most five Combo Points on any target and can consume them
with Combo Point Spenders such as
Rip and
Ferocious Bite.
Some abilities usable in
Cat Form requires being positioned behind the
enemy, which can be hard to do when playing alone. However, if you start combat from
Prowl, you will be able to use them at least once.
FAQHow Does Prowl Work?
Once you unlock
Cat Form you also unlock the ability
Prowl, which allows
you to hide from enemies and sneak around at reduced movement speed. Prowl greatly reduces the
range at which enemies can notice you, often letting you walk past enemies that would
otherwise attack you. They can still notice you if you get too close, often first
indicated by them turning towards you, before attacking shortly after, unless you have
moved away sufficiently.
Some Cat Form abilities require you to be behind the enemy, notably
Ravage
and
Shred. By approaching enemies with
Prowl you will be able to
open combat with these abilities even if you are playing alone, which can be useful for
speeding up how fast you are able to kill enemies by yourself.
If you notice an enemy with an icon above their head that looks like an eye, they have increased Stealth Detection, allowing them to spot you much easier when using Prowl, often seeing you from further away than if you were to leave Prowl.
- Maintain your
Mark of the Wild and
Thorns buffs and refresh them out
of combat when they are about to run out.
- Open from
Prowl with
Ravage, or
Shred before Ravage is unlocked. - Once unlocked you want to use
Shifting Power on cooldown with less than 50 Energy available.
- Spend your Combo Points on
Rip with at least 4 combo points if the enemy will live for the entire
duration.
- Use
Rake when the bleed effect is not already active and you
suspect the enemy will live for another 9 seconds.
- Use
Shred if you are able to get behind the target, otherwise spend your Energy on
Claw.
The biggest difference in your rotation is the last point, which is mainly dependent
on whether you are playing in a group or not. If you have someone else actively
tanking, you can position behind the target to use
Shred, otherwise
you will have to use
Claw. Make sure that
Rake is active unless
the enemy is really low on Health. If you are low on energy and Rake is about to run
out, it can be worth to not spend Energy before Rake is available.
Bear Form AoE Rotation
Your rotation when fighting multiple targets does not change a lot.
Swipe
becomes a lot more valuable and
Demoralizing Roar becomes very useful for
reducing damage intake.
Thorns deals damage whenever an enemy strikes you
and becomes significantly better for dealing damage when you engage
multiple enemies in combat.
Once you reach Level 40 you will be able to talent into
Berserk, which is a strong cooldown
that greatly empowers both of your forms. In
Dire Bear Form, which is unlocked at the same level,
it empowers
Primal Bite to hit three targets and have no cooldown. This means you want to press
nothing but Primal Bite for its entire duration when fighting multiple targets, only using
Maul
to spend excess rage. Fully utilizing this is a very efficient method of leveling, and
involves engaging large groups of enemies when Berserk is ready, activating it, and biting
down enemies during the duration of the buff.
Cat Form AoE Rotation
One of the bigger downsides for Feral Druid when playing in
Cat Form is that you
have no real means for dealing AoE damage. All abilities available in Cat Form only hits
a single target. You can deal slightly more damage against multiple enemies by spreading
Rake to several enemies. However when playing by yourself or without someone that
can Tank enemies for you it is often more efficient to fight multiple enemies in
Bear Form.
Important Abilities
The following section will discuss important abilities while leveling as a Feral Druid:
Maul is the first ability you will have access to once you unlock
Bear Form. Initially it will be the only way you have that lets you convert Rage
to damage, but as you unlock more abilities, it will become a tool to convert
excess Rage into extra damage when you cannot spend it all on other abilities.
Primal Bite is your strongest single-target tool for damage and generating
threat. Once unlocked your goal will be to use it on cooldown.
Swipe and
Lacerate will become your main fillers for when
Primal Bite is on cooldown. Swipe is stronger against multiple enemies while
Lacerate is a stronger tool on single-target.
Rake is your strongest Combo Point generator, dealing medium damage along with
a Damage over Time effect. You don't want to refresh the DoT part of the spell until the
whole duration is finished.
Shred and
Claw are your main tools for generating Combo Points when
Rake is already active. Shred is stronger but requires the target to be facing a different
direction. If you are fighting against enemies by yourself, you will have to use Claw instead.
- Your main Combo Point spender is
Rip, which applies a strong DoT effect on the target,
with the total damage and duration increasing depending on how many combo points you have active.
You want to apply this with 4 or more Combo Points, as long as you expect the target to live
most of the duration.
Shifting Power allows you to convert your Mana pool into Energy on a short cooldown
while you are in
Cat Form. Use this on cooldown when you have less than 50 Energy, to allow
for more damage from your abilities.
Faerie Fire applies a long Magic debuff on the target reducing their Armor and stopping them
from entering Stealth. Useful to apply to increase the damage of most of your abilities and your auto-attacks.
Berserk is a strong 3-minute cooldown that empowers your
Bear Form and
Cat Form
for 15 seconds. A very potent cooldown that lets you use multiple
Primal Bite that strikes up to 3
targets in Bear Form, and making all your Combo Point generating abilities in Cat Form critically strike.
Utility and Crowd Control
Feral Druid is a very versatile specialization with access to both crowd-control and utility that can be used in a multitude of situations, some more niche than others.
Click for Explanations of Feral Druid Utility and Crowd Control
Prowl is a useful tool that lets Druids stealth outside of combat, hiding yourself
from other players and NPCs. This can be used to move through areas with many enemies without getting
in combat as well as let you start combat on your own terms. It can also be very useful if you are distracted
or have to leave your computer for a brief period as you can simply stay hidden.
Bash is a single-target Stun that leaves your enemy unable to act for a few seconds. This can be
used to disengage from combat, get a short respite to heal yourself up, or simply to allow you to stop
enemies from running away from you at low health and potentially pulling more enemies.
Feral Charge works differently based on your current form. In
Bear Form it will charge
the enemy and interrupt any spell they are actively trying to cast, locking them out from that spell type for
4 seconds. If used in
Cat Form you will leap behind the target, quickly closing the distance. The cooldown
is different depending on the form you use it in as well.
Pounce is an opener usable from
Prowl that Stuns your target and applies a small
Bleed effect. Can be useful against enemy Rogues in PvP, since it will break their
Stealth, if they
use
Vanish. Otherwise this is usually worse than
Ravage and
Shred for opening on
enemies.
Innervate is a buff you place on yourself or an ally with a 6-minute cooldown that supercharges
their Mana recovery and allows Mana to regenerate at 100% efficiency while casting. An extremely potent tool
if used on a healer or caster in your group, usually allowing them to restore basically all of their Mana.
Hibernate puts a Beast or Dragonkin to sleep for a long duration until they take damage.
Can be used to crowd-control a target if a pull in a dungeon is too dangerous, or if you want to run past them
without engaging in combat. Notably, this also works on Hunter pets, or shapeshifted Druids!
Soothe Animal will instead make target Beast much worse at detecting you, allowing you to sneak by
a lot easier.
Abolish Poison and
Remove Curse are your dispels, allowing you to remove Poisons, Curses,
and Banes from friendly players. Very useful to get rid of annoying debuffs from you and your party if needed.
Stats
Gear in WoW Forever will have different kinds of stats on them, with higher level gear having more stats in total and more complex combinations. A lot of stats don't show up on gear until higher levels, and stats like Hit Chance will only show up in small quantities before you approach Level 60. The list below will give a rank to your stat priority while leveling and how each stat functions.
- Weapon DPS
- Feral Druid forms scale based on your weapon DPS,
increasing your base damage in
Bear Form and
Cat Form.
Unlike some other melee specs, Feral Druid does not care for the speed of the weapon,
only the DPS, stats, and effects.
- Feral Druid forms scale based on your weapon DPS,
increasing your base damage in
- Hit Chance & Expertise
- Hit Chance and Expertise are stats you will only start seeing more often at higher levels,
but they are among the strongest stats available to you. Expertise holds extra value
if you frequently tank in
Bear Form.
- Hit Chance and Expertise are stats you will only start seeing more often at higher levels,
but they are among the strongest stats available to you. Expertise holds extra value
if you frequently tank in
- Critical Strike Chance
- Increases the chance for your attacks to deal double damage. A stat you will mainly start seeing on gear at higher levels, but a very potent one for damage.
- Agility
- Agility is a versatile stat that increases your chance to Critically Strike,
as well as giving increased Dodge chance. It also increases your Attack Power in
Cat Form by one per Agility you have.
- Agility is a versatile stat that increases your chance to Critically Strike,
as well as giving increased Dodge chance. It also increases your Attack Power in
- Strength & Attack Power (AP)
- Strength is a simple stat in that it gives two Attack Power per point of Strength. Attack Power is a simple stat in that it increases your damage done in all Feral Druid forms.
- Stamina
- Increases your Health by 10 for each point. Good for increasing the damage you can take, both when playing solo and when tanking in group content. Quite a bit more useful when you are actively tanking.
Gear and Where to Level
There are more zones in the game than you will need to go through to reach Level 60, especially if you take the time to do most or all quests available in each zone. Often you will find that more than one zone is appropriate for your level, and as you reach higher levels, you will need to level through some of them parts at a time, and return again later at a higher level. Our recommendations below are aimed at identifying what zones are level appropriate, and you can decide which one you want to tackle based on personal preference.
Also of note is that during your journey you will come across many dungeons, designed for groups of 5 with bosses that drop powerful loot and quests that grant a large amount of experience as you complete them. Completing all quests for a single dungeon can easily lead to a full level early on, but finding all of them can take time since many of them are locked behind longer quest chains. These can be in the same zone as the dungeon, or begin somewhere entirely else. By visiting our Dungeon Hub you can find more information about where all appropriate quests for your Faction can be found.

Here you will find a list of strong weapons and other items in rarer slots that are relatively easy to pick up once you reach appropriate levels. Many of these will be the first good item in some slots you will find, and some might last you quite a lot of levels, especially early on in your leveling journey.
- Strong Weapons
- The first very strong Weapon available to
Alliance Druids,
is
Ironforge Greathammer, which requires you to clear Hall of Thanes, available at Level 9
but usually you will need a couple more levels before being able to clear the dungeon.
Horde Druids
can get
Hammer of Orgrimmar by clearing out Ragefire Chasm under similar circumstances.
- Once you become slightly higher Level
Alliance Druids will be able to access
Smite's Mighty Hammer and
Rhahk'Zor's Hammer in The Deadmines, however they are random drops
and might not appear in your run.
Horde Druids will however have access to
Hammerbone simply by finishing
the quest Leaders of the Fang in the Wailing Caverns.
- The next solid upgrades available are
Twilight Maul which drops from Lorgus Jett
in Blackfathom Deeps, available to both factions.
Alliance players can also
loot
Graverobber's Shovel in The Stockade from Dextren Ward.
- Once you reach Level 29 you can loot
Manual Crowd Pummeler which is a strong
weapon baseline with a very strong effect that will make this weapon very useful well into higher levels. Unfortunately
it requires a refill through
9-60 Battery Packs crafted by players with Engineering after using
it three times. This means it might be a bit expensive to use. Alternatively you can get access to
Defender of Dalaran
or
Striking Staff by completing Heart of Disruption in City of Dalaran. Which weapon you get
depends on your faction, but they are fairly similar in power.
- The first very strong Weapon available to
- Helmet
- The first strong Helmet available will require you to level Leatherworking so you are able to craft
Defender's Leather Hood, which is a really strong item for someone at Level 20. If you decide to craft this,
you will likely be using this helmet until at least hitting Level 30.
- The first strong Helmet available will require you to level Leatherworking so you are able to craft
- Shoulders
Horde Druids might be lucky enough to loot
Serpent's Shoulders in Wailing Caverns
as early as Level 18, otherwise both factions have easy access to
Dark Leather Shoulders at Level 23, which are
a small upgrade.
- Rings
- The Deadmines has two strong Ring options available in
Lavishly Jeweled Ring and
First Mate Band, but the competiton for them might be high.
Horde Druids have easy access to a strong ring in
Seal of Sylvanas by completing Shadowfang Keep, and if you are lucky you might
see
Silverlaine's Family Seal drop from the same run.
- The Deadmines has two strong Ring options available in
Given that the WoW Forever Beta only lasted until Level 30 there is a lot of information we don't have access. This page will be updated after release with more information as we get access to it.
Leveling Tips
Bring consumables that help you stay healthy. Health Potions are great for being
able to restore health in a pinch, and keeping a stack at hand can be very useful.
Make sure to also have food and some water with you as you level to help replenish
resources between fighting enemies. You can use your healing spells like
Regrowth and
Healing Touch to replenish health, but sometimes you may
find yourself low on Health and Mana, at which point you can sit down and eat and drink.
FAQCan I Use Consumables In Bear And Cat Form?
This question might seem silly if you have not played a lot of Classic Wow before, but before WoW Forever it was not possible for Druids to use most consumables when they were still in their forms, forcing you to leave Cat or Bear Form before drinking Healing Potions or using Elixirs. This is now possible making it a massive quality of life improvement for Feral Druids who spend most of their time in their forms.
This extended to many things other things you might not even consider as a new player such as opening chests, picking up quest items, or even interacting with NPCs, all of which required you to leave your forms in Classic WoW. All of this has been changed in WoW Forever and there are only a handful of things you still are not able to do in your forms.
Some of the limited things you still are unable to do in your forms is using certain
professions like mining ore as Mining or trying to catch fish with
Fishing. Some items such as Scrolls like
Scroll of Protection
and some specific items from Engineering will still require you to
leave your form.
Keep your professions up to date as you level. If you ignore your professions, it is possible you find that you are unable to gain skill easily without backtracking to old zones to get access to lower level materials. If you level with Skinning and Leatherworking, this means stopping to skin any Beasts you defeat. With Herbalism or Mining it means making sure to pick up herbs or mining nodes that give skill, even if it leads to a small detour.
Use your time efficiently, and plan your travels. Traveling in WoW Forever can take time, both if you need to walk places or if you are taking a flight path to another zone, so make sure you plan ahead and finish all the quests before spending time traveling to another zone.
Use bonus experience sources to speed up your journey. There are plenty of ways to
increase your experience gain, both when playing the game and when you are logged out, by
doing so inside an Inn to recharge rested experience. Eating food
created with Cooking gives buffs that both grant bonus effects like different stats,
but also increases experience gained from killing enemies by 5%. You can also complete the secret quest chain
that gives access to the Sleeping Bag item
Cozy Sleeping Bag,
which allows you to build up a buff that increasing experience gain by another 3%. If you are leveling as
Leatherworking, you can also place a
Camp Tent once an hour, giving you up to
5% of a level in rested experience.
Build your friend list and interact with people. A lot of quests will be much harder for a player to complete alone, and many areas will be much faster to clear in a party. Take the opportunity to invite other people to groups and make new friends, since you might run into people with similar pace as yourself more than once as you level, and some might be people you will find yourself doing dungeons or even raiding with at Level 60!

Professions
If you are planning on crafting gear for yourself as you level, your best bet
is to level with Skinning and Leatherworking
to allow for crafting strong Leather gear, including items such as
Brawler's Leather Hood
which are strong upgrades at early levels. Leatherworkers can also create
Camp Tent,
which allows you to gain 5% of a level in rested experience once per hour.
If you would instead prefer to make your own consumables, then Herbalism and Alchemy are a solid combination. This way you can craft Elixirs to empower yourself, and Healing Potions to heal in a pinch.
If you like to PvP you might want to consider Engineering, since it gives access to many tools that are really useful for PvP situations. Grenades are great for stunning enemies and dealing damage, and there are many other fun gadgets that can be niche, but useful. Engineering mainly uses materials gathered with Mining to craft, and learning it can save you a lot of gold if you gather stuff for yourself.
Regardless of what your main professions are you can always pick up Cooking, First Aid, and Fishing. All of these can be really useful for different situations. Cooking lets you cook food for yourself that you can use to get the experience buff. First Aid lets you create Healing Potions as well as Bandages that can restore Health when you are not actively taking damage. And Fishing allows you to catch fish and fish up other useful items, many of which are used for crafts and strong foods, and can sell for a good amount on the Auction House.
