Forever Shadow Priest Stat Priority

Last Updated: Oct 25, 2026 - 1:54 PM (2d ago)

On this page, you will find out the optimal PvE stat priority for your Shadow Priest in WoW Forever. We first present the stat priority, before delving into more complex explanations.

1.

Shadow Priest Stat Priority

Welcome to the Stats page for Shadow Priest. This page is intended for Level 60 players and will explain what stats to prioritize for your Shadow Priest in WoW Forever. Information on this page will be updated regularly based on the latest findings and discoveries, so make sure to check back periodically.

Hit Chance (to 17%)
Spell Power
Critical Strike
Spell Pierce
Spirit
FAQWhy 17% Hit?

In WoW Forever, you'll want to reach 17% hit between talents and gear. This is how much hit you need to guarantee your spells won't miss against boss-level enemies.

As Shadow Priests, we have access to the talent Shadow Focus Icon Shadow Focus, which provides 5% hit. This means that we only need 12% hit from our gear to reach a total of 17%.

Stat Bonus Given
Spell Power Increases the raw damage of your spells.
Critical Strike Increases the odds of your spell dealing extra damage.
Haste Reduces the cast time of your spells.
Hit Chance Reduces the chance of your spells missing the enemy.
Spell Pierce Increases the raw damage of your spells.
Intellect Increases your total mana and slightly increases your critical strike chance.
Spirit Increases your mana regeneration while not casting.
MP5 Increases your mana regeneration all the time.
Stamina Increases your maximum health.

Shadow Priest Stats Explained

Below, we break down every stat and how it interacts with the Shadow Priest kit. If you're looking for more info, make sure to click on the Explained boxes to learn more.

2.1.

Spell Power

Spell power is the most straightforward of our stats. More spell power will always mean more damage, with no exception. Note that spells scale differently with spell power from one another, based on ther Spell Coefficient.

Spell Coefficients Explained

All damaging spells in the game have two parts: baseline damage and scaling damage. When you obtain more Spell Power, you're increasing the scaling part of that equation. This is why doubling your spell power won't double the damage of your spells precisely. The formula can be seen below:

(Spell Power x Coefficient) + Base Damage = Total Damage

For Shadow, these are the max-rank coefficients for damaging spells:

  • Shadow Word: Pain Icon Shadow Word: Pain = 120% (20% per tick)
  • Mind Blast Icon Mind Blast = 42.9%
  • Devouring Plague Icon Devouring Plague = 80% (10% per tick)
  • Mind Flay Icon Mind Flay = 50% (16.7% per tick)
  • Shadow Word: Death Icon Shadow Word: Death = 42.9%
  • Touch of Weakness Icon Touch of Weakness = 10.7%
  • Shadowguard Icon Shadowguard = 26.7% per charge
  • Starshards Icon Starshards = 100% (16.7% per tick)

This means that, for instance, if we have 100 Spell Power, it will increase the damage from Mind Blast by 42, while increasing the damage of each tick of Mind Flay by 16.

2.2.

Hit

Hit reduces the chance that your spells will miss against targets. By default, every spell has a chance to miss, based on the level difference between you and your target. You must obtain 17% hit to not miss against boss-level targets.

Since we have access to Shadow Focus Icon Shadow Focus, we only need 12% hit from gear to achieve 17% total hit considering 5 talent points spent in Shadow Focus.

Chance to Miss Spells Explained

Every harmful spell in WoW Forever has an inherent chance to miss, based on the level difference between the caster and its target. This applies not only to damaging spells, but also when trying to remove harmful spells like dispelling a buff.

Below you can find the chance of missing your spells based on the level difference between you and your target. Note that boss-level enemies (skull) are considered as 3 levels above you.

Level diff Base miss
−3 or lower1% (floor)
−22%
−13%
04%
+15%
+26%
+3 (Bosses)17%
+428%

For instance, to never miss a spell against an enemy player at the same level, you only need 4% hit, whereas against a raid boss, you'll need 17% hit.

Against dungeon enemies and raid trash mobs, which are generally level 62, you only need 6% hit.

2.3.

Critical Strike

Critical Strike is something that can happen with your spells. If your spell is a critical hit, it will deal twice as much damage, thanks to Shadowform Icon Shadowform.

By obtaining more Critical Strike Chance, you increase the odds of hitting a critical strike. The less Critical Strike you have, the more beneficial it is to you, and the more you have, the less impactful it will be.

Critical Strike and Diminishing Returns

Due to the probabilistic nature of Critical Strike Chance, its value sharply decreases the more crit you have. You can see the chart of its drop in value below:

Damage gain from +1% crit by current crit chance
Value of +1% crit at different crit chances.
2.3.1.

But Why?

Let's take the following example: You have 0% crit chance. Assuming all your spells can crit, by increasing your crit to 1%, this means that, on average, you're now dealing 101% of your normal damage, or increased your damage by 1%.

  • Before: 100% damage (0% crit)
  • After: 101% damage (1% crit)
  • 1% damage increase from 1% crit

Now let's look at someone who already has 30% crit. If this person now increases their crit by 1%, they will be going from doing 130% of their normal damage to dealing 131% of normal damage. This means their damage increased by 131%/130%, or 0.7% damage increased from gaining 1% crit.

  • Before: 130% damage (30% crit)
  • After: 131% damage (+1% crit)
  • 0.7% damage increase from 1% crit (131% / 130%)
2.4.

Haste

Spell Haste, or increased casting speed, is a stat that increases how fast your spells are cast. It isn't a very interesting stat for Shadow, as it does not affect most of our toolkit.

Devouring Plague Icon Devouring Plague, Shadow Word: Pain Icon Shadow Word: Pain, and Mind Flay Icon Mind Flay receive no benefit from Haste as they are dots or channeled spells.

In short, besides increasing your casting speed, Haste:

  • Reduces your global cooldown, reducing it from 1.5s up to 1s*
  • Does not affect Damage-over-Time or Channeled effects.
  • Does not affect spell cooldowns.

* floor of 1s not confirmed, but theorized.

Haste Explained
2.4.1.

Cast Speed Calculation

To calculate your cast time based on your haste, use the following formula:

Cast time = Base cast time / (1 + Haste)

For instance, a 2.5s cast with 25% haste would take 2.0s to cast, because 2.5 / ( 1 + 0.25 ) = 2.0

2.4.2.

Multiple Sources of Haste

Haste is a multiplicative stat when applied from multiple sources. This could happen when you have haste from gear and from a trinket proc, for instance.

An example: having 20% haste on gear and a 30% haste proc from a trinket will net you 56% haste total, because 1.2 * 1.3 = 1.56

2.5.

Spell Piercing

Spell Penetration or Spell Piercing reduces the amount of spell resistance from your target. This stat is still being researched for its exact values, but, in short, it works as a kind of amplification for all your damage.

At level 60, against a target with 0 resistances, 1 spell piercing increases your damage by 0.185%.

This section will be expanded as more information is found.

2.6.

Intellect

Intellect increases your Mana and Spell Critical Strike Chance. It has some importance for us early on when we have the risk of running Out of Mana (OOM), but, as we become regen independent, Intellect's only value is the small Crit it provides.

Intellect Scaling

Each point of Intellect will increase your stats as follows:

  • Mana
    • 1 Point of Intellect grants 15 to your Max Mana total.
  • Critical Strike
    • 54 points of Intellect will reward 1% Spell Critical Strike chance.
  • Weapon Skill
    • Each point of Intellect will slightly increase your chance to level up a weapon skill.
2.7.

Spirit

Spirit increases your health regeneration out of combat and your mana regeneration when not casting. Thanks to Meditation Icon Meditation and Spirit Tap Icon Spirit Tap, it also increases our Mana regeneration while casting, albeit at a lower rate.

Every extra point of Spirit increases your mp5 by 0.625, with this bonus reduced by the 5-second rule.

5-Second Rule

Whenever you spend mana, your mana regeneration will stop for 5 seconds. After this time has elapsed and, as long as you're not channeling, your regen will return. Note that this only affects mana regen from Spirit. If you have flat MP5 in your gear, that regen will still work.

Thanks to Meditation Icon Meditation and Spirit Tap Icon Spirit Tap, we can bypass this restriction and, thanks to Shadowform Icon Shadowform, our mana economy is really solid, as we have 50% of our natural regen, while casting spells at 50% of their cost.

2.8.

MP5

Mana per 5 is a very basic stat. It works similarly to Spirit, where it provides you with mana regen, but it is not subject to the 5-second rule, always giving you full value. It is generally found only on healer items, so we won't see it often.

2.9.

Stamina

Stamina increases your health. Every extra point of Stamina increases your health by 10.
