The Skyborne, also know as the Shen'dorei, are a new race introduced with World of Warcraft: Forever. Skyborne are not faction bound and can be either Alliance (High Order) or Horde (Windshapers). They can be played as Druid, Hunter, Rogue, and Warrior. However, Alliance Skyborne can also be Mages, while their Horder counterparts can also be Shaman.

Lore Information for Skyborne

For thousands of years, a band of high elven exiles have remained safe and hidden upon their flying sanctuary of Zephras Isle. These “Skyborne,” as they call themselves, shared a bond with air elementals, who kept their island aloft in the realm of Skywall. But in recent years, the elementals vanished without a trace - disrupting the delicate magic that kept them safe in their haven amongst the clouds. Now, a new generation of Skyborne elves faces an unprecedented time of change, and must seek new allies and sources of magic - to protect their home and secure their future…

FAQIs Skyborne a good race in WoW Forever?
Skyborne is one of the weaker races in the game, with nearly all other races having better passive and activated racials.
FAQHow do I choose a faction as a Skyborne?
When creating your character you will be given the choice to choose your faction, becoming either a High Order Skyborne on the Alliance, or a Windershaper Skyborne for the Horde.
FAQAre Skyborne High Elves, Blood Elves, or a separate elven race?
Skyborne were previously a part of the Shen'dralar faction, and are a distant cousin to High Elves.
2.

Skyborne Racials

Skyborne are a neutral race that will be prompted to choose a faction to join upon character creation. If they choose to join the Alliance they become High Order Skyborne, where Skyborne that join the Horde become Windshaper Skyborne. This is the only faction currently that is not initially tied to a faction and may choose which side it wishes to join. Skyborne share 3 out of 4 of their racials, with the 4th being different depending on which faction they join.

Blizzard's racial design philosophy uses four racials per race: two passive effects and two active abilities. The goal is to create a more consistent power level between all races, giving each race its own distinct identity and allowing players to choose the race they like best.

  • Walk on Air (Active) — Glide downward through the air for 10-seconds while retaining directional control. 2-minute cooldown.
  • Wind Blessed (Passive) — Increases melee, ranged, and spellcasting Haste by 1%.
  • Elemental Insight (Passive) — Increases damage dealt to Elementals by 5%.
FAQCan Walk on Air be activated while falling to avoid fall damage?
Yes, Walk on Air is a slowfall that can be used to prevent damage taken from falling entirely.
2.1.

High Order Skyborne (Alliance)

  • Read Ley Line (Active) — Increases Health and Mana regeneration by 100%. Lasts 15-seconds normally or 15-minutes when a suitable ley line is nearby. 2-second cast. 2-minute cooldown.
FAQDoes Read Ley Line work in combat, and do I need to be near a ley line?
No, Read Ley Line can not be used in combat; it functions as a world utility buff. You can use the spell anywhere you want outside of instances, but using it near a ley line will increase the buff duration to 15-minutes rather than the default 15-seconds it lasts if there is no nearby ley line.
2.2.

Windshaper Skyborne (Horde)

  • Skysight (Active) — Increases movement speed and mounted movement speed by 10%. Lasts 30-seconds normally or 15 minutes near an elemental convergence. 0.5-second cast. 2-minute cooldown.
FAQDoes Skysight work in combat or stack with other movement-speed effects?
No, Skysight can not be used in combat; it functions as a world utility buff. You can use the spell anywhere you want outside of instances, but using it near a ley line will increase the buff duration to 15-minutes rather than the default 30-seconds it lasts if there is no nearby ley line.
3.

Skyborne Playable Classes

Depending on which faction you join will determine what classes are available to you. Both Skyborne factions have strong utility racials that strongly excel in open world content, while offering a bit of damage increase via their overall increased haste.

FAQHow do you unlock Skyborne in WoW Forever, and are they included with a WoW subscription?
Skyborne are unlocked with a paid purchase outside of the WoW subscription, requiring an entirely separate purchase to unlock them.
FAQWhy are Skyborne Mages Alliance-only and Skyborne Shamans Horde-only?
The true reason is unknown, whether it is for balancing reasons, or for a lore reason, only Blizzard truly knows. Alliance needs more Shamans.
FAQCan Skyborne Druids fly, or is their bird form only a ground Travel Form?
No, Skyborne Druids can not fly, there are no flying mounts in WoW Forever.
FAQCan Skyborne have skin colors other than blue?
Yes, there are several different skin colors available for Skyborne, not only blue.
FAQDo Skyborne support Classic character models and animations?
Yes, there are SD character models and animations for Skyborne, similar to TBC Blood Elves.
