In World of Warcraft: Forever, players will finally be able to play the game using a controller (gamepad), without the need for an external addon! This guide will cover how players can enable this new feature and how the gamepad system actually works in WoW: Forever.
Controller Support in World of Warcraft: Forever
World of Warcraft: Forever will be the first version of WoW to natively support gameplay with controllers, also known as gamepads.
Enabling the Gamepad option from the Settings menu changes the movement and camera controls to the left and right controller sticks. Additionally, this feature replaces your standard hotbars with a controller-based layout.
Each hotbar gets a total of 8 spells or abilities, for a total of 32 separate commands. These hotbars can be accessed by pressing a combination of one of the buttons or directional pad options with either one or both of the left and right triggers. There is also an option to tap the triggers to access additional commands, for players who prefer to tap instead of hold down the triggers.
The controller option will auto-focus on interactable targets who are in close proximity. Nearby enemy or friendly units can be cycled through by using the right or left bumpers. Players can also interact with all menus in the game by pressing the "Start" button and cycling through the options on the radial pad.
