World of Warcraft: Forever will launch with quite a few changes to the well-known Honor or PvP rank system that players might be familiar with from Vanilla or Classic WoW. In this page we will take a closer look at all the changes, and explain the new system to both returning players and newcomers.

1.

What Is The PvP Rank System?

In WoW: Forever, engaging in any kind of PvP and defeating enemy players will grant you Honor and Rank Points. The PvP ranking system itself offers 14 distinct ranks in carrying titles from Private/Scout to Grand Marshal/High Warlord based on your current rank. In Forever, PvP ranks function as an ever-growing bar with no decay. Each rank requires more Rank Points than the last, with Rank 14 requiring a total of 24,750 Rank Points.

There are two separate currencies associated with PvP in WoW Forever: Honor Points and Rank Points Icon Rank Points. Honor is the currency used to purchase PvP-related items, while Rank Points is the currency used to climb through the ranks. You will never spend Rank Points, but they will reset between seasons.

Based on some datamining sources, you will have a max rank per week of the season, being able to reach Rank 14 only by Week 10 of the Season/Phase.

2.

How PvP Rank Works

When participating in PvP activities, be it Battlegrounds, PvP Tasks, or World PvP, you'll earn two distinct currencies: Honor and Rank Points. Each currency has a different purpose.

CurrencyPurpose
Rank PointsFill the Ranking Bar and increase your Rank
HonorPurchase PvP Items

The currencies are independent of one another. You cannot convert Honor into Rank Points and vice versa. Purchasing a PvP item will not slow down your ranking process. You can only hold up to 15,000 at one time.

Reaching a certain PvP Rank only rewards you with the title from that respective rank. Material rewards like Gear or Cosmetics need to be purchased using Honor from their respective vendors.

PvP Ranks in WoW Forever don't work like original Classic rankings, when ranks were given based on your position on the ladder. If you've played modern WoW after Shadowlands, the PvP Ranking system works like a Renown track with increasing cost per Renown level. The total Rank Points from other players do not influence your rank, and it does not decay every week.

Rank Points Needed for Every Rank

Here are the requirements for every PvP rank in WoW Forever.

PvP Rank Weekly Cap

Based on datamining, there is a weekly cap on the maximum level you can reach based on the current week of the season.

Week12345678910+
Max rank35678911121314

This means that you won't be able to grind to Rank 14 during the first week of the season. It will be a 10+ week journey to reach the max PvP rank.

This effectively caps the amount of time that you need to put into PvP Ranking, unlike the original PvP Rank system, which rewarded always earning more honor.

5.

PvP Rank Rewards in WoW Forever

By reaching each PvP Rank, you unlock a faction-based title and the ability to purchase different rewards from PvP vendors.

For those looking to complete the transmog set for the season, you only need to reach Rank 13, as Rank 14 only unlocks the weapon arsenal instead.

6.

PvP Gear in Forever

According to datamining, PvP gear doesn't seem to be locked behind PvP Ranks, like it was back in original Classic. PvP Ranks, instead, unlock extra appearances for your class' given set, called Elite. This is a system similar to the one used in mainline WoW.

Upon reaching a certain rank, you'll unlock the ability to purchase Emboldened Seals, like Premier Emboldened Chest Seal Icon Premier Emboldened Chest Seal. These items allow you to upgrade the given slot to their Elite versions, keeping the same stats, but unlocking a new appearance.

  • Premier Emboldened Shoulder Seal Icon Premier Emboldened Shoulder Seal
  • Premier Emboldened Chest Seal Icon Premier Emboldened Chest Seal
  • Premier Emboldened Hands Seal Icon Premier Emboldened Hands Seal
  • Premier Emboldened Wrist Seal Icon Premier Emboldened Wrist Seal

  • Premier Emboldened Legs Seal Icon Premier Emboldened Legs Seal
  • Premier Emboldened Feet Seal Icon Premier Emboldened Feet Seal
  • Premier Emboldened Belt Seal Icon Premier Emboldened Belt Seal

This is not fully confirmed yet, but strongly supported by datamining.

7.

Reward Highlights

At rank 2, you unlock access to PvP trinket for your class.

At rank 5, you unlock access to Combat Potions sold by the PvP Vendors.

At rank 7, you unlock access to the Battle Standards. Battle Standards are items that you can drop and have a 10m cooldown. They increase health from all nearby allies by 15%. Alliance Battle Standard Icon Alliance Battle Standard and Horde Battle Standard Icon Horde Battle Standard

8.

Where Rank Points Come From

Based on datamined data, Rank Points are awarded from two sources: Battlegrounds and Gadgetzan Tasks. We don't have exact values for these yet, so come back later once we have more information about it.

9.

Honor and Vendors

Since you can only carry at most 15,000 Honor, you'll need to spend it while grinding your PvP Ranks.

PvP items cost from 750 to 15,000 Honor, with items like potions or Insignia of the Alliance Icon Insignia of the Alliance/Insignia of the Horde Icon Insignia of the Horde being cheap and high-end items like chest pieces or weapons being expensive.

On top of high honor costs, the best PvP items also cost Battleground marks, including the new Darkspear Islands Mark of Honor Icon Darkspear Islands Mark of Honor. We don't have the exact cost of each item at the moment, but we will update the guide soon as that information is available.

PvP Vendors are located in Stormwind, at the Champions' Hall, and in Orgrimmar, at the Hall of Legends.

10.

PvP Titles

When climbing the PvP Ranks in WoW Forever, you'll unlock several titles along the way. Each faction has a different title for each rank. The full list can be seen below:

Legacy Challenges from PvP Ranks

By progressing through PvP Ranks, you'll unlock up to 5 different Legacy Challenges.

ChallengeRequirementReward
Rank 3Reach Sergeant1 Legacy Point
Rank 7Reach Knight-Lieutenant or Blood Guard1 Legacy Point
Rank 10Reach Lieutenant-Commander or Champion1 Legacy Point
Rank 13Reach Field Marshal or Warlord1 Legacy Point
Rank 14Reach Grand Marshal or High Warlord1 Legacy Point

Increasing your rank contributes to a separate, permanent, account-wide track. You can learn more about the Legacy Challenges system in our guide.

12.

Seasons and Resets

While your Rank Points never decay or diminish during a season, when a season comes to a close, your rank will be reset and you must restart the grind. Each season brings with it a new set of cosmetics to obtain, including armor appearances, arsenal and Black War mount.

Progress made in Legacy Challenges does not reset. This means that, if you're looking just to complete the Legacy Challenge to reach Rank 14, you only need to do this grind during one season.

We currently don't have information about how long a season will last. It will likely last more than 10 weeks due to the gated progress through ranks. The likely length is between 20 and 25 weeks based on the information shown in the roadmap.
