On this page, you will learn how to optimize the rotation of your Elemental Shaman in both single-target and multiple-target PvE situations in WoW Forever. We also have advanced sections about cooldowns, procs, etc. in order to minmax your DPS.
Elemental Shaman Gameplay and Rotation Guide
As a DPS caster, your rotation priority is mostly down to the amount of targets
involved and focuses on applying and maintaining debuffs such as
Flame Shock
and using powerful spells such as
Chain Lightning and
Fire Nova
on cooldown.
The following rotations will be in priority order, which means that when deciding what to cast, you should work through the list top to bottom.
These lists assume you are using the recommended builds in the Talents page, and are at maximum level. If you are still leveling, refer to the Leveling page for leveling rotations.
Single-Target Rotation
Use this rotation to deal damage to up to two targets or when there is a priority target in the enemy group.
- Pre-place all of your Totems with
Call of the Elements,
with
Searing Totem being placed last just before pulling due to its lower duration. - Cast
Flame Shock on the priority target and refresh it when it falls
off. - Use cooldowns such as
Lightning Mastery, racials, combat potions and
trinkets. - Use
Lightning Bolt as your main filler spell.
Multi-target Rotation
Use this rotation when dealing damage to 3+ enemies at once if there is no priority target in the enemy group.
- Pre-place all of your Totems with
Call of the Elements,
with
Magma Totem being placed last just before pulling due to its lower duration. - Cast
Fire Nova on cooldown. - Cast
Flame Shock on a target without its debuff. - Use cooldowns such as
Lightning Mastery, combat potions and trinkets. - Cast
Chain Lightning (or downranked versions) on cooldown. - Use
Lightning Bolt (or downranked versions).
Cooldown Usage
As an Elemental Shaman, you have one major cooldown that can be critical to maximizing your damage output.
Elemental Mastery
Lightning Mastery removes the cooldown on
Chain Lightning and
reduces the cast time of
Lightning Bolt by 0.5 seconds for 15 seconds when
used, allowing you to deal more damage in this period. Always use it with racials,
trinkets, and other temporary power boosts.
Shaman Utility Ability Usage
Shamans also come with a ton of baseline utility spells and Totems, which can be used to help your group surpass specific challenges.
Earthbind Totem
Earthbind Totem slows down all enemies around it, which makes it great
for controlling melee enemies who run away when at low health, or allow yourself
and allies to run from adverse situations.
Poison / Disease Cleansing
Poison Cleansing Totem and
Disease Cleansing Totem remove all
poison and disease effects from nearby allies periodically, which is occasionally
invaluable against enemies who have dangerous poison and disease effects.
Tremor Totem
Tremor Totem allows you to remove sleep, fear, and charm effects from
party members, which is of particular use against common mass-fear effects from
end game bosses and in PvP.
Earth Shock
Earth Shock is an interrupt that also deals significant damage. Using
this correctly will allow you to prevent a lot of damage that would otherwise need
to be healed, and it can help bring caster enemies to melee range where they be
more easily killed and controlled.
Mana Management
A Elemental Shaman's primary resource is Mana. Its maximum is based on your Intellect, and the regeneration rate is based on your Spirit and Mp5. For a detailed breakdown on the various Mana-affecting stats, check out or in-depth Stats page.
Most of the time the best consumable you can use will be a Mana-restoring one
such as a
Major Mana Potion, but in shorter fights you can instead use
Major Spellblasting Potion to make your damage more potent for a short period.
