The Index Guide for The Forked Tower: Magic

The Index is the fourth and final boss of The Forked Tower: Magic. The arena is a hexagon, with squares along three of the sides and three more that will appear and disappear alongside certain mechanics. Players are able to fall off or get pushed off the arena by knockback mechanics, including a hole in the centre of the arena. The boss is weak to both Fire and Wind.

As a reminder, all encounters within FTM will inflict a permanent Vulnerability Up debuff. As such, players intending to greed mechanics must be aware that doing so too often can lead to instant and unavoidable death due to unavoidable damage becoming too great to survive.

Additionally, killing this boss completes the dungeon and rewards all players with 2,880 Phantom Job EXP for the job they are on at the time. As such, players should ensure they swap to a Phantom Job they wish to level before entering the boss arena.

Boss Ability Quick-Guide

  • Flare: Raidwide.
  • Corpse Mangler: Tankbuster.
  • Sealed Implements (Bow): Circle AoE that completely covers all currently present squares outside the main arena.
  • Sealed Implements (Harp): Point-blank AoE that completely covers the hexagon of the arena.
  • Omni-elements: Raidwide that summons three more squares, and sets an element on each one. These elements will always be fire, lightning, and ice, and each element will appear twice, the second position being directly opposite the first one.
  • Elementary Evocation: Summons an elemental tether of either fire, lightning, or ice. This will rotate clockwise until it touches the squares of the same element, at which point those elements will detonate. Between one and three will be summoned.
  • Elementary Expansion: Summons an expanding circle of either fire, lightning, or ice. When this expands enough to touch the squares of the same element, those elements will detonate. Between three and six will be summoned.
  • Elementary Evocation: Raidwide that removes the three squares previously summoned.
  • Propulsive Prophecy: Summons three spears that each do a telegraphed knockback AoE. Uses Sealed Implements at the same time, which resolves shortly after the knockback.
  • Summon: Summons three Bomb adds that move slowly towards the boss in the centre of the arena, and must be killed before they reach the centre.
  • Duology of Implements: Cleaves three sections of the arena, then the other three.
  • All-knowing Flames: Three sets of targeted circle AoEs on random players.
  • Predict: Summons three AoE markers (two circles, one donut) and tethers them each to a location. They will slowly move to that location, then detonate.
  • Dualcast: Casts the next spell twice (this is always Flare).

Tips and Tricks

  • Players using Phantom Monk will need to be extremely careful when Phantom Kick, as they can easily fall into the hole in the centre of the arena and die if they do not position correctly for the movement.
  • Players looking to greed melee uptime here will wish to do so on the Harp version of Sealed Implements.

Rewards and Proceeding Onwards

Clearing The Index will reward players with 2,880 Phantom Job EXP for their current job, 800 silver currency for North Horn, 80 Allagan Tomestones of Mathematics, 40 Allagan Tomestones of Mnemonics, and a personal treasure coffer that only they can see. This can be found past the exit of the boss arena.
