Complete Guide to Decor Duels in Midnight Patch 12.0.5
Patch 12.0.5, Midnight's first content patch brings with it a brand new and totally unique game mode: Decor Duels! We'll tell you all you need to know to jump right into this 5-vs-5, hide-and-seek prop hunt event.
Introduction
While Midnight's Patch 12.0.5 brings a continuation to the Midnight storyline and a whole host of activities centered around thwarting the Void's efforts to conquer Azeroth, even heroes need a break now and then! Decor Duels, a unique new game mode never before seen in World of Warcraft, introduces a new hint of whimsy and fun into World of Warcraft: Midnight. A full game of Decor Duel will only take you about 10 minutes total, making this a fast-paced bit of fun to queue into after a raid or between Mythic+ keys.
What are Decor Duels?
Decor Duels are Blizzard's take on the much-beloved "prop hunt" game mode, in which two teams take turns disguising themselves as various items to match the map, while the other team has to find their disguised opponents. While Decor Duels are technically classed as a PvP mode, there is, in fact, no actual combat involved. Seekers may utilize various spells to find their targets, while Hiders may make use of different trap types to escape being found, but there are no character deaths involved!
How Do I Decor Duel in Patch 12.0.5?
Players can access the Decor Duels queue via the Player vs. Player tab in the Group Finder. Decor Duel is the last option in the Quick Match section.
Teams of up to five players can queue together as a group; 5-man premade groups will be matched up against other 5-mans, while groups of 1 to 4 players will instead be matched up with random teams or solo queuers in the Quick Match system.
Match Rules
The ultimate objective of Decor Duel is simple: the Hiding team aims to remain hidden for the duration of the round, while the Seeker team aims to expose every hidden opponent before their time runs out. Each round lasts 3 minutes, and each team will have the opportunity to play as both the Hiders and the Seekers.
In order for the Seekers to win the game, they must reveal every member of the hidden team. If even a single Hider remains when the clock runs out, the hiding team are the victors.
In the event of a tie, wherein both hidden teams have at least one player remain hidden for the full round, or both teams find all hidden players, the winner will be the team with the longest combined hiding time.
Revealing Players
The hiding team is provided the opportunity to take on the appearance of various
decor items found in the surrounding map area, like easels, fruit bowls, crates,
and many many more. When a Seeker finds the exact location of a hidden player, that player
is flagged as
Found. Once a player is
Found, they can be tagged
out, which removes them from the current match round.
Found players must
STOP moving briefly in order to clear their flag and go back to hiding.
When marked as
Found, the Hider's location is pinged on the map for
the entire Seeker team, making this a very precarious situation for the Hider!
Skill Kits
One of the more unique aspects of Decor Duel versus the prop hunt modes in other
games is that both Seekers and Hiders can customize their toolkits with base spells
and abilities, as well as additional warbound kits purchased from Gamesmaster Fleurian
for 20
Illusionary Coins each.
Seeker Skills
Seekers can choose from three different classes, each with their own unique
illusion dispel and other purchaseable, class-appropriate utility spells. Additionally,
every Seeker has the
Tag! spell, regardless of selected class.
Arcane Ranger
The base Arcane Ranger kit comes with
Anti-Magic Arrow, useful for dispelling
all Hider illusions in an area. Players can buy two additional abilities for their
Arcane Rangers: (1)
"Clockwork Sentinel" Kit, allowing the Ranger to build a
30-second
Clockwork Sentinel turret that will apply
Found and
slow all Hiders who enter its radius; (2)
"Stealth" Kit, allowing the Ranger to
Stealth, slowing movement speed but reducing their detection radius.
Nullifier
The base Nullifier kit comes with
Nullify Magic, an illusion dispel
that targets an area directly in front of the caster. Players can buy two additional
abilities for their Nullifiers: (1)
"Nullification Field" Kit, allowing the
Nullifier to cast
Nullification Field, dispelling the illusions of all Hiders
in the area;(2)
"Riftwalk" Kit, teaching the Nullifier to
Riftwalk a
short distance.
Spellbreaker
The Spellbreaker's base kit comes with
Dispelling Focus, a 2.5 second
channeled dispel. Players can purchase two additional abilities for the Spellbreaker:
(1)
"Dispelling Leap" Kit teaches the Spellbreaker
Dispelling Leap, a
leap with a 30 yd max range that dispels the illusions of any Hiders around the
area of impact; (2)
"Swift" Kit increases the Spellbreaker's movement speed
by 30%.
Hider Skills
Hiders who remain still for too long begin to accumulate flies, and they will also periodically let out a loud whistle. Both these cues help Seekers hone in on Hider locations. Hiders can strategically customize their loadouts, though, by choosing one of four different trap types in addition to their other skills.
The base Hider toolkit is comprised of
Disguise,
Swap, and a
Trap of your choice:
Trap: Song Bird summons a Song Bird Decoy near the closest Seeker to you
(if applicable), or within several yards of your current location. This decoy will
whistle at random intervals for 30 seconds, potentially distracting a Seeker long
enough to follow that whistle and throw them off your scent.
Trap: Sands of Time summons a sand trap for 1.5 minutes that applies
Time Distortion,
a huge, stacking slow, to any Seeker passing through it. Casting another Trap while
you already have one down will move the sands to your current location and reset
its duration.
Trap: Void Sphere summons a 30 second Void Sphere that will propel
Hiders who make contact with it up to 30 yards forward, but will propel Seekers
who make contact with it up to 20 yards backwards.
Trap: Smoke & Mirrors releases a stampede of random prop decoys for 15 seconds,
which will run in random directions. It will also apply
Disguise, blink the
caster between 10 and 20 feet away, and remove
Found.
Players can purchase 2 other Hider abilities from Gamesmaster Fleurian
for 20
Illusionary Coins each: (1)
"Eccentro-Magic Pulse" Enhancement teaches
the Hider
Eccentro-Magic Pulse, which Stuns nearby Seekers but will flag the
caster with
Found; (2)
"Make Decoy" Enhancement teaches the Seeker
Make Decoy,
which will conjure a decor decoy of the caster's choice.
