This page covers the most important aspects of Alchemy in Dragonflight, including talent builds and suggestions on how to make gold with the profession.

1.

What is new in Alchemy for Dragonflight Season 3

The main addition of Season 3 is the new healing potion, Dreamwalker's Healing Potion Icon Dreamwalker's Healing Potion which heals for similar amounts to the current one and also leaves a heal-over-time effect for the same amount over 6 seconds. Its recipe, Recipe: Dreamwalker's Healing Potion Icon Recipe: Dreamwalker's Healing Potion can be obtained randomly from Emerald Dream world events, such as the Superbloom.

Dracothyst Icon Dracothyst will also continue being used for the Season 3 crests, and is thus expected to maintain a high transmute value, provided you are maxed in the relevant transmutation talents and using Multicraft + Resourcefulness gear.

2.

What is new in Alchemy for Dragonflight Season 2

The main addition to Alchemy is the new Recipe: Transmute: Dracothyst Icon Recipe: Transmute: Dracothyst recipe, which can be obtained from Ponzo in the new Zaralek Cavern zone. This recipe allows you to learn a new transmute recipe to create Dracothyst Icon Dracothyst, which require a lot of Zaralek Glowspores Icon Zaralek Glowspores and are used in many new recipes from multiple professions, including Alchemy's new Draconic Phial Cauldron Icon Draconic Phial Cauldron, Cauldron of Extracted Putrescence Icon Cauldron of Extracted Putrescence, and the new Enchanting crests that can be used to upgrade Season 2 crafted gear to up to 447 item level.

Alchemy in Dragonflight

As has been the case since the start of World of Warcraft, Alchemy will be responsible for creating most of the consumables used in the end game, as well as some rare materials, through transmuting.

Alchemy in Dragonflight

Alchemy is also one of the few professions that provide combat bonuses, in the form of healing / speed bonuses when using a potion, longer duration phials (30 minutes from Phial Mastery and another 30 minutes from Air or Frost Phial specializations), and lower health loss from using Toxic consumables.

Dragonflight introduces Crafting Specializations, which you are able to unlock once your profession skill hits 25. These serve as a profession talent tree system fueled by Alchemy Knowledge, obtained from weekly quests, one-time treasures in the Dragon Isles, Draconic Treatises, and first-time crafts.

While you will eventually be able to unlock all talents, doing so will require a long time as the sources of knowledge are very limited, especially once one-time treasures and first-crafts are exhausted.

Besides short-duration combat potions, such as Elemental Potion of Power Icon Elemental Potion of Power, Alchemists can also make long-duration phials, such as Phial of Elemental Chaos Icon Phial of Elemental Chaos. They can also specialize into Decayology to learn about Toxic potions and phials, such as Potion of Withering Vitality Icon Potion of Withering Vitality.

Decayology Specialization

Alchemy Stone trinkets can also be crafted for yourself and other non-Alchemist players with Crafting Orders and grant either increased duration on phials or reduced cooldown for your combat potions:

Best Class for Alchemy in Dragonflight

Due to its PvE combat personal benefits, Alchemy is an excellent choice for any character that cares about min-maxing its Raid and Mythic+ performance.

It also goes well on Goblin characters due to their high racial bonus, but for the most part, you will want to have it on whatever character(s) you play the most.

5.

Crafting UI in Dragonflight

Dragonflight introduces a few new concepts to professions, which we delve deeper into in the specialized guide below:

6.

Crafting Stats for Alchemy in Dragonflight

Dragonflight introduces four new stats specific to crafting professions: Multicraft, Resourcefulness, Inspiration, and Crafting Speed.

We explain what each stat does and how to maximize them in the specialized guide below:

Alchemy, in particular, can make great use of all four stats, but you might want to focus on specific stats for different playstyles. We go into detail with Alchemy stats and the gear you can use to boost them in the specialized guide below:

7.

Leveling Alchemy in Dragonflight

The most important source of Alchemy skill is your profession level, which is increased by performing difficult crafts. While leveling is generally straightforward, you should still take into account the racials of the character you are leveling on and any special recipes that can help you along the way, both of which are discussed in our specialized guide below:

8.

Alchemy Profession Knowledge in Dragonflight

Often more important than raw skill, profession knowledge allows you to progress through the new profession knowledge talent trees of Dragonflight. It comes from many sources, some one-time, others weekly, and you will generally want to farm as much of it as you can to make your Alchemy crafts as efficient as possible and unlock unique perks!

We detail where and how to best farm these points in the guide below:

9.

Best Alchemy Specializations and Talents in Dragonflight

Alchemy Specializations UI

Alchemy Specializations are divided into three disciplines, each with 5 sub-specializations, which can be unlocked as you put points into their pre-requisite disciplines, akin to talent trees.

The best specialization for you depends on what your goals are: are you looking to maximize personal benefit for Raiding and Mythic+, Potion / Phial mass production, betting on Experimentation, Reagent, and Incense mass production, or do you just want to do daily Transmutes as efficiently as possible? Each tree has its own unique perks which can help you reach these goals.

9.1.

Best Potion Mastery Talents

Potion Mastery is all about Potion mass-production and experimenting to discover new potion recipes.

9.2.

Best Phial Mastery Talents

Phial Mastery is all about Phial mass-production and experimenting to discover new potion recipes.

9.3.

Best Alchemical Theory Talents

Alchemical Theory is responsible for most of the reagent and incense crafting optimization and also contains many of the personal benefits available to the profession, as well a dedicated transmute node.

10.

Making Gold with Alchemy in Dragonflight

Ideally, Alchemy allows you to convert cheap materials into expensive potions, phials, and other products such as Sagacious Incense Icon Sagacious Incense, but due to its commodity producing nature, it is very likely that the consumable market will quickly get loaded with potions that are only marginally more expensive than the materials used to create them. High-quality Alchemist Stones should have better margins but be harder to sell, as they require you to go through the Crafting Orders system.

We have a specialized guide for Dragonflight gold-making below, which contains a gold-making tier list and goes deeper into techniques and habits for successful gold making, as well as websites and addons that can help you on your journey!
