Midnight is bringing the biggest change to Transmog since the feature released. Check out our guide here to see how the new Transmog system works and what you can enjoy from it.

1.

Introduction

Transmog, the system where you can customize your gear appearance within World of Warcraft, is getting a big overhaul with Midnight. This guide will go over the system itself, all of the changes, and how it will affect you the moment you log in.
Major changes to the system include that your appearance will not change with new gear equipped as long as you have an outfit chosen, you no longer have to spend gold to swap between set outfits, you can set outfits to change when you do specific activities, and you can have up to 50 outfit slots up from 20!

2.

First Time Logging In With The Updated System

Upon logging into the game for the first time, either as a long time player or new/returning player, you will have 2 outfit slots. With these slots you can assign each piece to whatever other pieces you have collected previously.

If you are new to the game or need a refresher on how it works:
To acquire a piece for your collection, you must have gotten the gear piece previously on any character. This system is an account-wide system, so any piece collected can be applied to any character on your account, so long as the piece in question is the appropriate armor class.

Once you have set your preferred gear pieces, simply click the save outfit button and pay the appropriate cost associated with any changes to the outfit. Now you are looking good!
After an outfit is set, any changes to your gear will not adjust your transmog appearance. This results in less gold being spent during your leveling and gearing process, while your character still looks great the whole time.

You may be wondering: what happens to all your saved outfits from before Midnight? Fear not, all of your previously saved outfits are under the new custom sets tab, previewed above.
Within this tab you can click on a custom set to then decorate your character. You can also make a new custom set to preview future outfits you may want to use at a later time.

Situations

Situations are the coolest new thing with the Updated system in Midnight, and a big reason for the expanded outfit slot limit. You can set up your individual outfits to change in a wide variety of different scenarios as you adventure across Azeroth.
Your options are Locations, Movement, Specializations, Equipment Sets, and even Racial Forms for Dracthyr and Worgen races who have two forms. Below we will go into detail for each of these situations, so you can be prepared regardless of where you find yourself.

3.1.

Locations

Locations are the largest of options and are as follows:

  • Rest Area
  • House
  • Character Select
  • World
  • Delves
  • Dungeons
  • Raids
  • Arena
  • Battlegrounds
3.2.

Movement

Movement options are focused on ways you traverse Azeroth and are as follows:

  • Unmounted
  • Swimming
  • Ground Mount
  • Flying Mount
3.3.

Specializations, Equipment Sets, and Racial Forms

These last options will depend on your individual characters Class, Race, and what equipment sets you have set up.

  • Specializations: Swap your outfit automatically when you swap to a different class specialization.
  • Equipment Sets: Under your character panel, you can set up different equipment sets for whatever needs you have. You can now set up different outfits for individual equipment sets.
  • Racial Forms: Only available to Worgen and Dracthyr currently, you can set different outfits for whatever form you swap into at any time!

Unlocking all 50 outfit slots will be quite the costly endeavour, at a little over 2 million gold total. Thankfully this system is something you can interact with on a smaller level though. Unlocking 20 outfits, which is our maximum prior to the Midnight expansion update, costs only 162,650 Gold.
So, if you do not interact with the system too much, and only use a few select outfits, this system will quickly end up being be a big gold saver, as swapping between outfits costs absolutely nothing.
