The Vaults of Atal'Utek are a new zone in the Midnight expansion, serving as a complimentary to the Coiled Isle in Patch 12.1 and providing challenging open world group content. Learn how to enter the Vaults, their activities and rewards!

Entering the Vaults of Atal'Utek

The Vaults of Atal'Utek are first explored during the main story questline for Patch 12.1. We enter the area for the first time in the quest The Vaults of Atal'Utek: Altar of Fangs. As we delve deeper into the Vaults, there any many quests along our journey there, starting with Vaults of Atal'Utek: Certain Doom.

All the available activities within the Vaults of Atal'Utek are unlocked as you progress through the Vaults of Atal'Utek: Certain Doom questline.

1.1.

Vaults of Atal'Utek Entrance

The Vaults are accessible from three entrances located around the Coiled Isle:

  • The Gate of the Serpent's Eye is the northern entrance, located in the Venom's Rise area of the Coiled Isle.
  • The Gate of the Western Fang is the western entrance, located by the Forum area of the Coiled Isle.
  • The Gate of the Eastern Fang is the eastern entrance, located just past the broken bridge southwest of Tokka's Landing.

FAQCan I Fly in the Vaults of Atal'Utek?
No, flying in the Vaults is disabled. You will be grounded when you pass through the corridors that lead inside the Vaults. There are plenty of tools and interesting ways to move around the Vaults, like spectral flight masters and air currents, to make moving around the area as easy as possible.

Activities in the Vaults of Atal'Utek

The Vaults of Atal'Utek have three "tiers" of activities that feed into each other. Completing these activities in rewards you with Corrosive Coin Icon Corrosive Coins, reputation with the Zul'Jarra's Forces Renown, and many other rewards.

Vaults of Atal'Utek Activities

Temple Patrols Temple Strikes Temple Incursions

Temple Patrols are the lowest tier of activities in the Vaults of Atal'Utek. They are scattered across the Vaults, and you're likely stumbling across them by simply venturing around the temple. Patrols are marked on your map via a cogwheel vignette, and a new set of patrols spawn every 10 minutes.

Temple Patrols can be completed solo with ease.

Temple Strikes are the second tier of activities in the Vaults of Atal'Utek. These spawn upon completing a certain number of Temple Patrols, and trigger a small zone event.

Although Temple Strikes can be completed solo, 3-5 players is the recommended amount for one.

Temple Incursions are the highest tier of activities in the Vaults of Atal'Utek. Triggered after completing two Temple Strikes, these are massive zone-wide events. Every Temple Incursion ends with a final boss fight.

It is recommended to bring 15-20 players for a Temple Incursion.

The Altar of Corrosion

As you engage with these activities, you'll collect Corrosive Coin Icon Corrosive Coin. Their purpose is to feed the Altar of Corrosion, a new talent system that increases your power within the Vaults of Atal'Utek.

You can start working towards unlocking the Altar of Corrosion with the quest Vaults of Atal'Utek: Certain Doom, which serves as an introduction to the Vaults themselves. Once the Altar of Corrosion is unlocked, you can talk with Er'inye near the Altar to start corroding your spirit. This uses Corrosive Coin Icon Corrosive Coins to earn talent points for the Altar of Corrosion, with each point costing more coins than the previous one.

Every time you corrode your spirit with Erin'ye, you will gain one Corrosive Soul, which grants a talent tree point into the Altar of Corrosion. Certain talents require completion of quests before you can allocate them, which are listed in the table below.

Venomous Hunt You can identify venom-enhanced enemies. Defeating them occasionally releases their power, each granting you a Primary stat buff via Volatile Venom Icon Volatile Venom and additional Corrosive Coin Icon Corrosive Coin.
Ofi's Offerings You may find reagents for Ofi's Cauldron from treasures in the Coiled Isle.
Venomwalking Damage taken from venom pools reduced by 75%.

Surge Seniority: Ghostly allies now rally alongside you in Curse Surges on the surface of the Coiled Isle.
Spiritual Succession: Spirits will now instantly resurrect you on death in Atal'Utek.
Corroded Grounds You may now find Corrosive Coin Icon Corrosive Coin while gathering with Mining, Herbalism, Skinning or Fishing in Atal'Utek.
Slithering Secrets Venom-enhanced enemies in Atal'Utek can now drop Decrepit Key Icon Decrepit Key. These can be used to open Decrepit Caches in the Coiled Isle.

Spirit Guardian Spirits in the Vaults of Atal'Utek will occasionally assist you in combat.

Egg Specialist: Damage dealt to eggs in Atal'Utek increased by 100%.
Egg Evasion: Damage taken from egg bursts reduced by 75%.
Spirit Strikes Additional spirits in the Vaults of Atal'Utek will occasionally assist you in combat.
Venomous Sanctuary You may make offerings to shrines in Atal'Utek. Offerings transform the area nearby the shrine into a temporary safe zone.

Requires Mummified Lynx's Paw Icon Mummified Lynx's Paw
Glideways: You can now find additional Spiritwing Feathers in the Vaults of Atal'Utek. These will raise you to great heights within the Vaults.
Swift Steps: You can now find additional Spiritwing Gusts in the Vaults of Atal'Utek. These allow you to leap across great gaps within the Vaults.
Venom Coating Your abilities now have a chance to poison your enemies in the Coiled Isle.
Venom Ward You can now find Venom Wards across the Vaults of Atal'Utek. These are used to protect nearby allies from Poison effects.
Volatility Overflowing Venom-enhanced enemies now have a higher chance to release Volatile Venom Icon Volatile Venom when slain.
Wondrous Wards Activated Venom Wards now also increase Movement Speed of your allies.
Venom Infusion Venom Coating now has a 50% higher chance to proc.

In addition to these talents, there are four talent points on the top of the tree. These are unlocked automatically once you've collected a certain number of Corroded Souls, and increase the amount of Corrosive Coin Icon Corrosive Coins you obtain from all sources.

The Corrosive Codex

Another feature from the Vaults of Atal'Utek is the Corrosive Codex. The Codex is a series of poison-related powers that are unlocked as you further corrode your spirit in the Altar of Corrosion.

You can equip a maximum of two Corrosive Codex abilities. The first ability is unlocked once you obtain 8 Corroded Souls for the Altar of Corrosion, and the second one at 16 Corroded Souls. You can switch any of the obtained Corrosive Codex abilities at any time in the Altar of Corrosion, or inside any Delves, next to the entrance.

FAQIn What Content do Corrosive Codex Powers Work?
Powers from the Corrosive Codex work in all outdoor content, including Delves. These powers do not apply to instanced content such as Raids, Dungeons, or Battlegrounds.
Corrosive Codex Abilities
Trait Description
Ophidian Maw Damaging and enemy has a chance to call a giant snake that erupts from below, gnashing at the target's location and dealing Nature damage split between nearby enemies. Any Poisoned non-boss creature below 20% is executed.
Insidious Venom Chance during combat to Poison yourself, lowering all your Secondary and Tertiary stats while greatly increasing your Primary stat for 12 seconds.
Vipering Grasp Your harmful spells and abilities have a chance to pull up to 2 nearby enemies to your current target's location, dealing Nature damage to affected targets. Up to 3 nearby Poisoned enemies are also pulled in.
Virulent Mucus Upon entering combat, veil yourself in 5 stacks of Virulent Mucus. Each stack negates an instance of incoming damage that would exceed 5% of your maximum health. Dealing damage to a poisoned enemy has a very low chance of granting an additional stack of Virulent Mucus.
Mephitic Cloud Chance during combat to apply Mephitic Cloud to nearby party members and enemies for 10 seconds. Affected allies' spells and abilities Poison their target, dealing Nature damage over 5 seconds. Enemy spells and abilities additionally heal their target.
Accursed Poison Chance during combat to inflict Accursed Poison to the strongest enemy, dealing Nature damage every second for 1 minute. The next time the afflicted target would cast an interruptible spell or ability, the Accursed Poison triggers, interrupting the ability and removing itself.
Gorgoneion Gaze Upon dropping below 50% health. petrify all enemies within 10 yards for 10 seconds. Petrified enemies are stunned and invulnerable. When they break free, enemies become Poisoned, taking Nature damage every second and slowed by 50% for 1 seconds. 1 minute cooldown.
Plague of Corrosion Chance during combat to apply a stacking Poison to all nearby enemies, dealing Nature damage every 2 seconds for 1 minute. On death, the Poison and its remaining duration are transferred to a new target.
Lithic Plumage Taking damage has a chance to fortify you, reducing incoming damage by 75% up to a cap. The damage cap is increased for each nearby Poisoned enemy.
Miasma Geyser Chance during combat to stir up a Miasma Geyser under a nearby enemy. It erupts after 10 seconds, dealing Nature damage split between enemies while also healing allies inside. Poisoned units take increased damage and healing.
Ouroboric Cycle Chance during combat to begin an Ouroboric Cycle, increasing all Tertiary stats for 5 seconds, then increasing all Secondary stats for 5 seconds, then increasing your Primary stat for 5 seconds. In this state, slaying an enemy causes an additional Cycle to occur after the last. While you are poisoned, each Cycle's duration is extended by one second.
Ula'tek's Gift Your harmful spells and abilities have a hance to afflict your target with 5 stacks of Ula'Tek's Gift, dealing Nature damage per application every 5 seconds for 1 minute. While you are poisoned, apply 5 additional stacks. Upon applying 20 stacks to a target, the gift corrodes, dealing the remainder of its damage immediately and removing itself.

Corrosive Coin Rewards

In addition to the Altar of Infusion, Corrosive Coin Icon Corrosive Coin can be used to purchase venom-themed cosmetic rewards. These can be purchased from the Skull of Er'inye, next to the Altar of Corrosion.

Vaults of Atal'Utek Achievements

The Vaults of Atal'Utek have their own meta achievement. Assault the Vault Icon Assault the Vault requires you to participate in several activities in the area, and rewards you with the Venomous Coiler Icon Venomous Coiler mount.

Submerge the Incursion Icon Submerge the Incursion Complete every Temple Incursion event in Atal'Utek. Temple Incursions trigger after completing two Temple Strikes.
Oppose the Foes Icon Oppose the Foes Defeat all three Ancient Foes in Atal'Utek. An Ancient Foe is the end boss of a Temple Incursion event.
A Lone Wanderer Icon A Lone Wanderer Collect enough Soul Globes in Atal'Utek. These are fairly large and hard to miss, and spawn during the Purifying Earth and Sky Temple Strike.
Dance While Everyone Watches Icon Dance While Everyone Watches Perform a /dance while defending each stone statue in the Cache of the Three Temple Incursion. This can be completed over multiple incursions.
Ritual Behavior Icon Ritual Behavior Collect and deliver all offerings available at the Summoning Ritual Temple Incursion. This can be completed over multiple incursions.
Soft Underbelly Icon Soft Underbelly Defeat all named Elite mobs in the Underbelly area in Atal'Utek. The Underbelly access opens up during the The Underbelly Temple Strike. This will require multiple clears of the strike to complete.
The Honored Dead Icon The Honored Dead Locate all Funerary Inscriptions scattered throughout Atal'Utek. These are plaques at walls and fairly easy to see.
