Abyss Anglers World Event - Location and Rewards
The following guide covers Abyss Anglers, a world event where you'll explore the depths of Zul'Aman to fish riches. Learn how to progress in the event, and the rewards it offers.
Abyss Angler Basics
Abyss Anglers is a world event in which you participate in diving missions across the depths of Zul'Aman. There are no weekly quests associated with the Abyss Anglers world event, but plenty of achievements and rewards to work towards.
Abyss Anglers Location
The Abyss Anglers event happens in the depths of Zul'Aman, on an island far off the coast of the zone. In there, you will meet Depthdiver Jeju, the leader of the Abyss Anglers entourage, and the NPC that starts the event.
Abyss Anglers Coordinates
Once you start the event, you will be thrown underwater into the depths of Zul'Aman, and your
mission is to explore the depths, catching as many fish as possible through a plethora of activities,
and gather
Angler Pearls for rewards.
Abyss Anglers Abilities and Stats
While participating in Abyss Anglers, you will don a diving suit and gain access to a special action bar, granting you event-specific abilities:
Dash - Dash forward in the direction you're facing.
Fire Harpoon - Shoot a deadly harpoon, destroying a layer of scales from
fish, or capturing a vulnerable fish.
Surface! - Return to the surface. This will end your current Abyss Anglers
run.
In addition to this, your diving suit has special capabilities that can be upgraded as you progress and collect achievements in this world event.
- Swim Speed: Determines how fast you can swim underwater. Can be upgraded up to 150% Swim Speed.
- Oxygen: Determines how long you can stay underwater. If you run out of oxygen, your Abyss Anglers run will end. Can be upgraded up to 350 oxygen. You can also recover Oxygen underwater while running through special vents, marked on your minimap.
Abyss Anglers Activities
Here's a list of everything you can do while in an Abyss Angler run. The event is pretty freeform
with many things you can do. Each activity earns you points at the end of a run, which is how you
can obtain
Angler Pearls, used to purchase upgrades and cosmetic rewards.
Abyss Anglers Activities
Harpoon Fishing is the main way you can obtain points in Abyss Anglers. Any fish you can
directly target via your
Fire Harpoon ability. If a fish is vulnerable, hitting
it with a harpoon will catch it.
Most harpoonable will be protected by layers of
Scales. These have an
indication on their health bar. Every successful Harpoon hit will remove one layer of Scales.
Certain Fish will become aggressive if you hit them with a Harpoon, and they might try to attack
you. You can dodge their attacks via
Dash.
Each fish has a different quality level, all the way to Mythic, depending on how hard it is to fish them, how many layers of scales they have, or even how rare they are.
During your Abyss Anglers runs, you will likely come across Abyss Bubbles. These can be fished on just like you would normal fishing, giving you score towards your Abyss Anglers progress.
Initially, you will only be able to fish Common quality fish, but with certain Abyss Anglers upgrades, you will gain a chance of obtaining better fish in Abyss Bubbles:
Finnow Chum allows you to fish Uncommon fish from Abyss Bubbles.
Plecofin Bait allows you to fish Rare fish from Abyss Bubbles.
Murkskimmer Meat allows you to fish Epic fish from Abyss Bubbles.
Like in any good diving adventure, there are also treasures you can collect directly from the ground while engaging in Abyss Anglers.
From the beginning, you will be able to obtain Sunken Treasures, highlighted on the floor.
These give some score towards your Abyss Anglers progress. Once you've obtained the
Pressurized Eyeglass
upgrade, you will be able to find Ancient Treasure, which is a lot more rare - And equally
more valuable.
As you unlock upgrades in Abyss Anglers, you will gain access to nets that allow you to capture small creatures, giving you extra score in your progress. Once a net upgrade is unlocked, the specific small creatures will become highlighted. All you need to do is approach them and click to loot them.
Shallows Net allows you to capture Barbed Crawlers and Thorny Seahorses.
Triple-Thread Net allows you to capture Deep Whelks and Bilejellies.
Abyss Anglers Upgrades
As you progress through dives in the Abyss Anglers event, you'll earn achievements that allow you to purchase upgrades to your diving suit. These can be purchased from Depthdiver Jeju after completing their respective achievements.
