Subtlety Rogue PvP Guide — Midnight (12.0.1)

Rogues have one of the best toolkits in the game for PvP. This utility can come in many forms, such as:

• Stuns - Kidney Shot and Cheap Shot are strong stuns that can be used to slow down enemy damage or offensively to land a kill.
• Crowd Control - Blind, Sap, and Gouge are used to help extend crowd control chains on healers if needed.
• Interrupt - Shadowstep + Kick gives you both a melee-ranged interrupt and a ranged interrupt for healers.
• Smoke Bomb is consistently one of the scarriest cooldowns in the game for teams to deal with. If an enemy does not have a trinket and you can full Kidney Shot on them in a Smoke Bomb, you can easily land a kill.
• Poisons - in addition to all of the damage and control Subtlety Rogues have, you also have poisons to enhance your gameplay. Wound Poison makes it so enemies with this poison debuff on them take reduced healing and Crippling Poison slows enemies affected by it.

Rogues are an extremely difficult class to get away from. Crippling Poison guarantees that your target will be slowed if you are hitting them. You also have Shadowstep and Sprint if an enemy is out of your range. Once you get to a target, you can shut them down with Kidney Shot or Cheap Shot. THe constant crowd control, slows, and damage is what makes it difficult for teams to deal with Rogue specializations.

Subtlety Rogues are extremely difficult to kill. You have an answer to every situation when teams try to focus you with Cloak of Shadows and Evasion. If they are not available or you do not think it will be enough, Vanish allows you to quickly leave the fight and reposition away from enemies trying to focus you.

Outside of damage, Rogues heavily rely on diminishing returns to setup kills on DPS enemies and crowd control chains on enemy healers. If your team lacks coordination, it will be extremely difficult to land a kill. This is why it is difficult to learn and play Rogue, because you need help from teammates to coordinate their damage with your setups.

If someone is constantly stunning your kill target, you will find it difficult to kill that target.
