Last Updated: Jul 21, 2026 - 6:55 PM (5d ago)

Az'tarec is the nemesis boss for delves in Midnight Season 2. Players can fight him in Venomfall Deeps on two difficulties for new seasonal achievements and rewards.

1.

Where is Az'tarec's Delve Located in Midnight Season 2?

The entrance to Venomfall Deeps, where Az'tarec resides, can be found in the Coiled Isle. The Delve is in the northern area of Coiled Deeps, at the top portion of the Serpent's Tail area.

How to Unlock Az'tarec's Delve

You can defeat Az'tarec on two difficulties. Here's the requirements to unlock both of Az'tarec's difficulties:

  • Tier ? unlocks when you clear a Tier 7 delve with at least one life remaining during Midnight Season 2.
  • Tier ?? unlocks when you clear a Tier 10 delve with at least one life remaining during Midnight Season 2.

Setting Up Valeera

To make the most out of your companion during the fight, we recommend Valeera set up as a healer. This will give you access to her poison dispel, on top of the healing she provides. Az'tarec's melee hurt quite a bit, so the additional sustain will be very valuable. If you have a reliable dispel and self healing, you can use Valeera as a DPS for the extra interrupt instead.

We recommend downloading Deadly Boss Mods to be prepared for each of Az'tarec's casts and abilities.

Az'tarec Strategy

On Tier ?, Az'tarec has a series of abilities, with a fight that mostly repeats through three intermission phases.

Throughout all phases, Az'tarec has access to the following abilities:

  • Noxious Bile Icon Noxious Bile: Az'tarec casts a cone of poison aimed at the player, dealing massive Nature damage and leaving pools of poison on the ground. Sidestep the cone and avoid the pools of poison whenever possible.
  • Void Toxin Icon Void Toxin: A DOT that reduces Shadow damage done and inflicts massive Shadow damage. This cast is interruptible but as it also leaves a DoT, it is easier to dispel it (or leave Valeera to do the dispeling).
  • Soul Extinction Icon Soul Extinction is an interruptible cast that deals lethal Nature damage. This cast must be interrupted at all times.
  • Venom Storm Icon Venom Storm
  • : Az'tarec summons slow-moving waves of poison that cross the arena. They're easy to spot and should be dodged at all times.
  • Serpent's Strike Icon Serpent's Strike is used against Tank specializations only, and deals a massive amount of Physical damage. It is recommended to always have a defensive cooldown prepared for it.

Az'tarec will always use his abilities in the following order: Noxious Bile > Void Toxin > Soul Extinction > Venom Storm > Serpent's Strike (tank only), until he reaches an intermission phase.

4.1.

Intermissions

Before we start explaining the intermission, it is important to remind ourselves that Az'tarec's room is divided into four quadrants, separated via chains.

At 90%, 60% and 30%, Az'tarec will become near invulnerable, move to the center of the room, and start chanting a Sermon of Ula'tek Icon Sermon of Ula'tek. During the sermon, Az'tarec will telegraph quadrants of the room with poison that will explode and deal massive Nature damage after 1-2 seconds. You must move to the clean quadrants.

Az'tarec will repeat this three times, and you must take note of the order in which Az'tarec does this mechanic. After the three first waves, Az'tarec will repeat the sequence in the same order, but there will be no telegraphed indicators this time around.

Important Note!

If you are looking for help with the intermission, the addon SnakeSays massively helps with the intermission. The addon creates a customizable field mimicking the boss's arena, and you can either click it or use keybinds to note which quadrants are clean or not, to help you remember the correct order for the second wave.

Once the second set of waves is over, Az'tarec loses his shield, with the fight progressing as normal.

4.2.

Tier ?? Changes

The fight does not change significantly on Tier ??. As usual, Az'tarec deals more damage and has more health. Noticeable changes happen during the Sermon of Ula'tek Icon Sermon of Ula'tek intermission phases:

  • At the start of all intermissions, Az'tarec now summons an Echo of Azta'rec. The Echo does the same abilities as Az'tarec with the same level of lethality, and ideally must be killed before Az'tarec completes his Sermon of Ula'tek intermission, otherwise you will be dealing with two NPCs dealing lethal damage with abilities. It is recommended to save offensive cooldowns to deal with the echoes.
  • The memory sequence from Sermon of Ula'tek now has five sequences to remember, up from three in Tier ?.
