Find out everything you need to know about Valeera Sanguinar, your trusty Delves companion in the Midnight expansion!

1.

Introduction

Valeera Sanguinar is your Delve companion in the Midnight expansion. She will automatically join your run when you are alone or in a group of up to 4 players. However, she will not join when you have a full party. Your companion grows in power and gains Experience as you clear more delves. You can set him up as a healer, tank or DPS.

1.1.

New in Midnight Season 2

Valeera is receiving a few changes with Midnight Season 2:

  • As with every new Delve season, Valeera is receiving a new set of Combat and Utility curios that must be obtained and leveled again.
  • Poisons are no longer attached to Valeera's specs - You are able to customize which poison she has on her weapons no matter the spec.
  • Valeera also has access to three new poisons to choose from, for a total of six options.
2.

Companion Role

When you interact with the Explorers' League Supplies at the beginning of each Delve, at any checkpoint, or bring up the Delves tab by pressing "H", you can set Valeera's role to Damage Dealer, Healer, or Tank. Valeera gains access to a different set of abilities in each role.

3.

Abilities for All Roles

Valeera has access to the following abilities regardless of the role you choose for her:

  • Stealth Icon Stealth: Valeera conceals herself in shadow, making her undetectable by most enemies.
  • Masterful Feint Icon Masterful Feint: Valeera performs evasive maneuvers, significantly reducing damage taken from area-of-effect attacks.
  • Rupture Icon Rupture: Valeera punctures an organ of an enemy, inflicting significant Physical damage over 24 sec.
  • Fan of Knives Icon Fan of Knives: Valeera unleashes a volley of knives, inflicting moderate Physical damage to all enemies near her.
  • Blood Contract Icon Blood Contract: Valeera marks a random enemy for death for 1 min. Killing that enemy rewards Valeera and her allies with Paid in Blood, increasing the Primary stats of Valeera and all her allies for 20 sec.
  • Tools of the Trade Icon Tools of the Trade: Valeera uses her gathering tools to help players find additional gold, ore, herbs, fish, leathers, and treasures.
  • Killing Spree Icon Killing Spree: Valeera moves rapidly through the shadows, slashing at enemies for significant Physical damage.
3.1.

Valeera's Poisons

Valeera has a selection of six poisons she can use to help you with combat. First, we have the three poisons that were originally locked per specialization.

  • Poison of the Forgotten Master Icon Poison of the Forgotten Master: Valeera coats her and her allies' weapons with an ancient poison that grows in potency over time, increasing all damage done by 5%, stacking every 3 sec while in combat up to 5 stacks. All stacks are removed if the wielder of the poisoned weapon takes damage.
  • Soulthirst Venom Icon Soulthirst Venom: Valeera applies wicked poison to her and her allies' weapons, increasing Leech, Avoidance, and Speed by 10%.
  • Bloodcrypt Toxin Icon Bloodcrypt Toxin: Valeera applies a debilitating poison to her and her allies' weapons. Enemies struck by these poisoned weapons have their damage reduced by 10% and their Haste reduced by 10% for 20 sec.

After completing the seasonal introduction that starts with the quest Seasonal Refresher: Midnight, at the Delver's Headquarters in Silvermoon, Valeera gains access to three additional poisons you can choose from:

  • Bursting Toad Toxin Icon Bursting Toad Toxin: Valeera applies toad derived toxin to her and her allies' weapons. Enemies struck by these poisons occasionally burst with poison, inflicting Nature damage every second for 8 seconds to all enemies within 8 yards.
  • Frostheart Venom Icon Frostheart Venom: Valeera applies a frost-infused poison to her and her allies' weapons. Enemies struck by these poisoned weapons have their movement speed decreased by 30% and their melee attack, ranged attack and casting speeds reduced by 20% for 10 seconds.
  • Phantasmal Spore Toxin Icon Phantasmal Spore Toxin: Valeera applies a fungal poison to her and her allies' weapons. Enemies struck by these poisoned weapons are interrupted and feared for 1 second.

Valeera gains access to the following abilities in the Healing role:

While Valeera is set up as Tank, she gains access to the following abilities:

  • Scar of Kathra'natir Icon Scar of Kathra'natir: Valeera uses dark alchemy to harness the remnants of the Curse of Kathra'natir, causing attacks against her to inflict 20% less damage. Every 25% of damage taken by Valeera's Agony heals Valeera 8% of her max health.

Delve Curios

Curios are special items looted from chests at the end of a delve run. They further improve Valeera's combat capabilities.

Curios have four ranks, and you can improve the rank of a curio by looting the same curio of a higher rank at higher tiers.

4.1.

Best Curio Combinations for Each Role

Here are the best curio recommendations for Valeera. The same configuration applies for all three Valeera specializations:

  • Combat Curio: Corrosive Bilespear Icon Corrosive Bilespear.
  • Utility Curio: Soul-Cracking Dreamcatcher Icon Soul-Cracking Dreamcatcher.
4.2.

Combat Curios in Midnight Season 2

The following Combat Curios are available in Season 2 of Midnight:

  • Corrosive Bilespear Icon Corrosive Bilespear: Your companion has a chance during combat to impale the two highest and lowest health nearby targets with a Corrosive Bilespear, dealing tremendous Nature damage. Corrosive Bilespear damage is increased against Poisoned enemies.
  • Essence Trap Icon Essence Trap: While in combat, your companion has a chance to place down 3 Essence Traps. When an enemy comes within 3 yards, the trap activates, slowing targets inside by 50% for 5 seconds before detonating, dealing moderate Nature damage and stunning all enemies inside for 4 seconds.
  • Ouroboric Curse Icon Ouroboric Curse: When any player's health falls below 50%, the curse awakens, horrifying nearby enemies for 8 seconds while granting the player 15% increased Primary Stat and 100% increased Leech, Avoidance, and Speed for 20 seconds. This effect can only occur once every 2 minutes. Killing Poisoned enemies reduces this effect's cooldown for 12 seconds.
4.3.

Utility Curios in Midnight Season 2

The following Utility Curios are available in Season 2 of Midnight:

  • Dundun's Favor Icon Dundun's Favor: While in combat, 2 Mislaid Spirits may appear near you. Walking over a Mislaid Curiosity or a Mislaid Spirit triggers a volley, firing Volatile Sprites at random nearby enemies, each dealing moderate Nature damage. Mislaid Curiosity contents are looted upon activation.
  • Soul-Cracking Dreamcatcher Icon Soul-Cracking Dreamcatcher: When any party member interrupts or crowd-controls an Elite enemy, the Dreamcatcher shatters their soul, causing them to take 15% increased damage for 60 seconds, stacking up to 2 times. Nearby enemies' souls are also shattered.
  • Venom Infusion Icon Venom Infusion: Upon entering combat, party members become Poisoned, suffering 1% of their current health as Nature damage every minute, while granting 4% Movement Speed and 2% Haste for every 5% of their health missing. This effect is reversed for the first 12 seconds of combat.

Improving Valeera's DPS/Healing in Delves

When doing Delves, maximizing Valeera's DPS is essential to efficiently killing enemies. Below are some steps to help you improve Valeera's effectiveness in combat.

5.1.

Step 1: Increase Valeera's Power with Higher Item Levels

Valeera's strength scales directly with your item level. Therefore, try bringing your average Item level higher to directly increase her DPS.

5.2.

Step 2: Master Potion Staggering

Orbs from Vampiric Reaping Icon Vampiric Reaping leave you with a stackable Healing-over-Time effect, in addition to its instant healing. It is recommended to stagger how often you collect Vampiric Reaping Orbs by position yourself in a way that you can pick up another orb 1-2 seconds before the HOT expires.

If you do this effectively enough, you will be able to carry over Vampiric Reaping stacks into Valeera's next cast of the ability, allowing you to keep the healing over time going for a long time, at the highest stack-count possible.

5.3.

How to Effectively Deal with Unconscious Tank Valeera

If Valeera’s health drops to 0 in her Tank Role, she will become Unconscious, taking 50% reduced healing. It is crucial to bring her back quickly. On higher difficulties, reviving her can be challenging. When she becomes unconscious, turn around and head back immediately. Valeera will eventually respawn nearby, giving you a brief window to revive her before enemy mobs close in.
