The Midnight Expansion brought a major stat squish, reducing the stats and numbers of virtually everything in the game, including Item Levels and the stats on gear.

Because Windwalker Monk wants a decent balance of Critical Strike, Haste, and Mastery, the below list is simply one potential combination aimed at maximizing these stats. There are many many possible combinations of gear that are well within the margin of error from each other.

Best Trinkets for Windwalker Monk in Midnight Pre-Season
Pre-Season Trinket Tier List for Windwalker Monk
S-Tier
Void Execution Mandate — Static Agility and provides two strong secondary stats on a 2-minute cooldown that we can use with your flexible cooldowns makes this trinket very very strong for a dungeon trinket.
Heart of Wind — Static Agility plus a nice chunk of Haste with a very high uptime is very good. Windwalker is much better at dealing with Haste that comes from random procs than it used to be.
A-Tier
Emberwing Feather — This trinket probably can be S-tier, and maybe Best-in-Slot, but the potential for it to subtract from Critical Strike or Mastery means that it can have some drawbacks. However, it is a lot of Haste on a good cooldown timer.
Lightspire Core — Mastery is "3rd" amongst our secondary stats, but still very desirable. This trinket can be very strong depending on your other stats.
Freightrunner's Flask — The 90-second cooldown is slightly more difficult for Windwalker to make use of, but with some talent adjustments it is very doable.
Resonant Bellowstone — Critical Strike is a strong secondary stat, but the proc rate isn't quite strong enough to push this into S-tier.
B-Tier
Latch's Crooked Hook — Early into an expansion, trinkets and procs that deal static damage can either be very strong or very week. Once sims have settled, we'll have a better sense of how strong this is.
Sapling of the Dawnroot — Early into an expansion, trinkets and procs that deal static damage can either be very strong or very week. Once sims have settled, we'll have a better sense of how strong this is.
Kroluk's Warbanner — Early into an expansion, trinkets and procs that deal static damage can either be very strong or very week. Once sims have settled, we'll have a better sense of how strong this is.
Eye of the Drowning Void — Early into an expansion, trinkets and procs that deal static damage can either be very strong or very week. Once sims have settled, we'll have a better sense of how strong this is.
C-Tier
Vessel of Tortured Souls
"Simming" Yourself as a Windwalker Monk
Throughout this page, we regularly refer to the importance of simming yourself on Raidbots, as it is an indispensable aspect of optimizing your character.
While we do offer generic sim charts for Trinkets, this should not be a replacement for simming yourself, at least not if you want to minmax sub-1%!
If you are new to simming and Raidbots, check out our detailed guide below.
Best Crafted Items for Windwalker Monk
Note that simulations for Embellishments are in their early stages, and this information only reflects the current state of those simulations. It is likely that this recommendation will change slightly or entirely by the time Season 1 rolls around, so check back on this page before you are about to craft.
The
Darkmoon Sigil: Hunt that can be crafted into a weapon is currently the
highest simming embellishment. It is recommended that you craft it into a 1-handed
weapon like
Bloomforged Claw.
You should ideally sim the optimal stats to craft for your particular
character, but Crit/Haste is most likely your best option with a
Thalassian Missive of the Fireflash.
Best Crafting Order for Windwalker Monk
- First, a Crafted Weapon with
Darkmoon Sigil: Hunt. - Second, two options:
- If you are able to get a Myth track weapon to pair with your one Crafted Weapon
then you craft
Loa Worshiper's Band. - If you are unable to get, or wait for, a Myth track weapon, then craft a second Agility
weapon with apply
Darkmoon Sigil: Hunt.
- If you are able to get a Myth track weapon to pair with your one Crafted Weapon
then you craft
- After sorting out your Embellishments, you should chase Item Level with your crafts on your otherwise weakest slots. If you are coming to the season relatively late and gearing up, crafting a Weapon followed by Jewelry can be really good here as it lets you customize your secondary stats to a significant degree.
You do not need to have a Professions to get gear crafted for you, that is what Crafting Order NPC's are for, but if you are interested in crafting for yourself and saving some Gold, check out our Professions Overview page:
Best Gear Crest Upgrades for Windwalker Monk
You will be able to upgrade your items via Crests. Once you have upgraded a slot to a certain item level, upgrading other items of that slot to that item level is free.
When you upgrade with Crests, you should think of it as upgrading slots and not items.
Additionally, since Crests are a limited resource, you will want to obtain the highest item-level possible before upgrading a given slot, as this means you will spend fewer Crests on that slot in total. If you are at all capable of doing a +9 Dungeon, for example, it would be a VERY bad idea to upgrade an item from a +8 Dungeon, as those are wasted Crests you may not get back for a very long time.
We see a ton of players, even at a high level, mess up their upgrade priorities and upgrade prematurely. Getting this right will put you far ahead of most players.
Below is the slot priority you should upgrade your items in. If you ever want to deviate from this, you should have a very good reason.
- The biggest single increase in damage for all content will come from the item level of your weapon. Upgrading these ASAP will be the biggest value for the crests it will cost.
- After your weapon is upgraded, Trinkets generally provide the largest value to upgrade. If you have one of the stronger trinkets listed below, then you can likely upgrade them without much concern. However, after the weapon is handled, you will want to make sure that you're confirming your choices through your sims, as upgrading a weaker trinket, or one that you may still replace with a better or higher item level trinket, may not be the right choice.
- Once your weapon and trinkets are upgraded, you get to the point where you really need to be simming the gear that you have in order to know what is best. Upgrading embellishments can be worth it, but they're often in "low value" slots like gloves, belt, bracers, and boots, that don't gain as much by an item level increase. Upgrading a "high value" slot like chest, legs, helm, or shoulders, that gain more Agility, can be worth over your embellishment slots. Unfortunately, the only way to know for sure is to sim your character.
Weapon - Why?
Trinkets - Why?
Sim What's Left- Why?
Note that exceptions are possible, such as special items that have more Item Level scaling than their slot would imply.
