Change Default Region Guide

This guide explains how to permanently change the default Region for Heroes of the Storm. If you change it by using the corresponding dropdown menu in the login screen, the game client will not save your preference and default to Americas. Thanks to this guide, you will not have to change the selected Region ever again.

This method works both when launching the game from the "HeroesSwitcher_x64.exe" file that is in the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Heroes of the Storm\Support64" folder or when pressing the Logout button in-game, regardless of how you launched the game.

If you always launch the game by using the Blizzard launcher, you do not need to change the default Region. If you occasionally logout to switch account without restarting the game, however, you will still find this guide useful.

In order to change the default Region for Heroes of the Storm, proceed as follows.

1. If you have Heroes of the Storm open, close it.
2. Navigate to the "C:\Users\User\Documents\Heroes of the Storm" folder.
3. Open the "Variables.txt" file using any text editor (e.g. Notepad).
4. Search for the "localeidinstall" variable. Press [Ctrl + F], type "localeidinstall", and press [Enter].
5. In the table below, choose a locale corresponding to the desired Region (e.g. "enGB" for Europe).
6. If you find "localeidinstall", change its value to the chosen locale (e.g. "localeidinstall=enGB").
7. If it's not there, add "localeidinstall=" and set its value to the chosen locale (e.g. "localeidinstall=enGB").
8. Save all changes.

The locale value assigned to the variable "localeidinstall" dictates the default Region for Heroes of the Storm. Pick any locale corresponding to the desired Region from the table below, preferably matching the Text Language settings you are using in-game. Capitalization matters!
