Change Default Region Guide

This guide explains how to permanently change the default Region for Heroes of the Storm. If you change it by using the corresponding dropdown menu in the login screen, the game client will not save your preference and default to Americas. After following this guide, you will not have to manually change the selected Region every time.

If you always launch the game by using the Blizzard launcher, you do not need to change the default Region. If you use the "HeroesSwitcher_x64.exe" file for launching the game or occasionally logout to switch account without restarting the game, however, you will still find this guide useful.

The locale value assigned to the "localeidinstall" variable dictates the default Region for Heroes of the Storm. Pick any locale corresponding to the desired Region from the table below, preferably matching the Text Language settings you are using in-game. Capitalization matters!

In order to change the default Region for Heroes of the Storm, use one of these methods.

If you launch the game from the Play button in the Blizzard launcher, follow these steps.

1. Open the Blizzard launcher.
2. Click on the Battle.net logo in the top-left corner.
3. Click on Settings.
4. Click on Heroes of the Storm.
5. Select the "Additional command line arguments" checkbox.
6. Select the text box right below it.
7. Type "-localeidinstall=" and set its value to the chosen locale (e.g. "-localeidinstall=enGB").
8. Save all changes by clicking on the Done button.

This will ensure that, after using the Logout button, your selected Region will be preserved.

If you launch the game from a shortcut to the "HeroesSwitcher_x64.exe" file, follow these steps.

1. Right click on the shortcut for the "HeroesSwitcher_x64.exe" file.
2. Click on Properties.
3. Select the text box named Target.
4. Go at the end of the string, after the ending quotes. Press [End] to quickly get there.
5. Type "-localeidinstall=" and set its value to the chosen locale (e.g. "-localeidinstall=enGB").
6. Save all changes by clicking on the Apply button.

This will ensure that, when launching the game, the desired Region will always be selected.

If you launch the game from either the Play button in the Blizzard launcher or from a shortcut to the "HeroesSwitcher_x64.exe" file, follow these steps.

1. If you have Heroes of the Storm open, close it.
2. Navigate to the "C:\Users\User\Documents\Heroes of the Storm" folder.
3. If you want a backup, make a copy of the "Variables.txt" file before continuing.
4. Open the original "Variables.txt" file using any text editor (e.g. Notepad).
5. Search for the "localeidinstall" variable. Press [Ctrl + F], type "localeidinstall", and press [Enter].
6. If you find "localeidinstall", change its value to the chosen locale (e.g. "localeidinstall=enGB").
7. If it's not there, add "localeidinstall=" and set its value to the chosen locale (e.g. "localeidinstall=enGB").
8. Save all changes by clicking on File and then on Save.
