General Information

Welcome to our Li Li guide for Heroes of the Storm. Here you will learn everything you need to know in order to play Li Li in a competitive environment, whether you play on your own or with a team.

About the Author

Straften is a Grand Master ranked player in both Hero League and Team League. He has a passion for theorycrafting, and regularly tests new features early on the PTR. He explains his strategy, reasoning, and implementation in these guides.

1. Quick Reference

Serpent Build (talent calculator link)

Level 1 Eager Adventurer Icon
Level 4 Serpent Sidekick Icon
Level 7 Lightning Serpent Icon
Level 10 Water Dragon Icon
Level 13 Mass Vortex Icon
Level 16 Blessings Of Yu'lon Icon
Level 20 Double Dragon Icon

This build helps you to deal damage while supporting your team, and is best taken when you are not the only healer on your team. Your Serpents will get optimal value when cast on Heroes who fight in melee range for extended periods. Position yourself near the maximum range of your Abilities, so that you can constantly harrass enemies. Taking damage will give you longer cooldown reduction and increased mana regeneration, thanks to Eager Adventurer Icon Eager Adventurer. Be careful not to be too eager, respecting stuns and roots that can result in misfortune. With this in mind, try to apply Basic Attacks whenever possible. Cloud Serpent will attack targets with you. Water Dragon Icon Water Dragon can be used to secure kills on Heroes who are out of position, and is also effective during team fights. Mass Vortex Icon Mass Vortex is also strong in team fights, where it is easy to trigger its bonus damage.

Healing Build (talent calculator link)

Level 1 Eager Adventurer Icon
Level 4 Hindering Winds Icon
Level 7 The Good Stuff Icon
Level 10 Jug of 1,000 Cups Icon
Level 13 Surging Winds Icon
Level 16 Pick Me Up Icon
Level 20 Mistweaver Icon

The Healing Build is a good template to use when you are the only Support on your team. This build is designed to sustain Mana as long as possible, while constantly casting Healing Brew Icon Healing Brew. Jug of 1,000 Cups Icon Jug of 1,000 Cups can be used for quick healing as needed, and can be cancelled to lower its cooldown. It is ideal to cast Jug of 1000 Cups while you have Spell Power from Surging Winds Icon Surging Winds, although this is not always possible. If the enemy team has a lot of crowd control, Let's Go! Icon Let's Go! should be taken at Level 7 instead of The Good Stuff Icon The Good Stuff. Pick Me Up Icon Pick Me Up and Mistweaver Icon Mistweaver give excellent late game healing. Li Li will struggle to keep allies healed during the early game, regardless of Talent choices.

Synergies and Counters

Li Li synergizes with

Li Li does very well with another Support on her team. This allows her to provide secondary healing, while focusing on Talents that increase her damage. The same is true for the other Support, who may also take more damage or utility Talents than they otherwise could.

Li Li is countered by

Healing Brew Icon Healing Brew is not very effective against Ability based burst damage. Heroes that deal burst damage will force Healing Brew to heal a single ally, while the rest of her team may be suffering. Forcing Li Li to spend her Mana in an inefficient way is a good way to counter her, especially if she is the only healer on her team. Another way to counter her is to be able to consistantly deal damage while outside the range of Blinding Wind Icon Blinding Wind. Li Li is very effective against most Basic Attack Heroes, but Raynor can Basic Attack from a great enough range that she has to frontline in order to Blind him. Her kit is also poorly equiped to Support her team as they defend a Hyperion Icon Hyperion push.

Li Li's stronger maps Cursed Hollow Sky Temple Warhead Junction
Li Li's average maps Battlefield of Eternity Blackheart's Bay Dragon Shire Garden of Terror Infernal Shrines Towers of Doom Volskaya Foundry
Li Li's weaker maps Braxis Holdout Hanamura Haunted Mines Tomb of the Spider Queen

Li Li has very poor waveclear, but can soak a lane during the early game thanks to her ability to trade efficiently. For this reason, she tends to do well on very large maps that have 3 lanes to soak. This usually results in two solo lanes for each team. Li Li can heal very well in a group, even early in the game. She can struggle on maps that involve powerful lane pushing objectives, as she contributes very little to map pressure.

TL;DR Tips

See our Abilities page for further information

2. Introduction

Li Li is a sustained healing Support Hero. Although she lacks any hard crowd control, she is able to Blind enemies with Blinding Wind Icon Blinding Wind. Li Li is capable of dealing significantly more damage than most other Supports. Fast Feet Icon Fast Feet allows her to trade damage very efficiently, as she gains movement speed and cooldown reduction when damaged.

3. Strengths

  • Blinding Wind Icon Blinding Wind is very strong against Heroes that are designed around Basic Attacks, like Illidan
  • High sustained healing
  • Li Li is easy to play effectively
  • Good damage for a Support Hero
  • Trades damage efficiently
  • Fast Feet Icon Fast Feet makes Li Li difficult to catch without Roots, Stuns, or strong Slows.

4. Weaknesses

  • Lacks any hard crowd control
  • Her sustained healing is ineffective against burst damage, as allies will die before they can be healed
  • Healing Brew Icon Healing Brew and Jug of 1,000 Cups Icon Jug of 1,000 Cups automatically heal the ally with the lowest percentage of health, which is not always optimal
  • Poor waveclear

5. Role in the Current Meta

Li Li is very effective in prolonged team fights, where her sustained healing has time to accumulate into a substantial Health advantage for her team. She can be a good pick against Heroes that rely on Basic Attacks, because Blinding Wind Icon Blinding Wind is very good at inhibiting their strenghts. With her high Basic Ability damage and access to Water Dragon Icon Water Dragon, Li Li is a good supplemental Support for teams that have a dedicated healer.

It is best to take Li Li as a secondary Support, so that you are able to take Water Dragon. Jug of 1,000 Cups Icon Jug of 1,000 Cups can be interrupted, reducing its healing output. If it is interrupted near the beginning of its channel time, most of its healing can be cancelled. It is always best to take healing Talentes if you are the only Support on your team, but this scenario should generally be avoided when possible.
