Yrel's Talent Build Cheatsheet
Bruiser BuildTalent calculator »
The Bruiser Build is designed to make Yrel a formidable solo laner and - as the name suggests - Bruiser. By choosing Maraad's Insight at Level 1, you make sure to have enough self-sustain to outlast most other Heroes in lane or at least trade evenly. At Level 4, we usually recommend Aegis of Light, however, Hand of Freedom can still be a valid choice if your team requires additional help against enemy Slows and Roots or simply to speed up an important Hero, usually Assassins, to make them more impactful. At Level 13, Repentance allows Yrel to chase targets down more efficiently, which is particularly useful when played a bit more aggressively. Ultimately, Holy Wrath causes Yrel to have a significant late game power spike, since the extra damage after each Basic Ability splashes in a respectable area around her and even works against enemy Structures. Last but not least, Seraphim at Level 20 removes one of Yrel's core weaknesses and makes her much less susceptible to enemy crowd control by giving her a short time window during which she becomes Unstoppable.
Defensive BuildTalent calculator »
The Defensive Build allows Yrel to both tank more damage herself while also reducing the enemy team's performance in that regard. At Level 1, Light of Karabor lays a great foundation to increase her self-healing and possesses great synergy with Aldor Peacekeeper at Level 13. Hand of Freedom at Level 4 helps deal with enemy Slows and Roots, in particular, but can also be used as a mere mobility boost due to its low cooldown. During the late game, Holy Wrath is a universally strong weapon that increases Yrel's damage and wave clear capabilities significantly. At Level 20, Word of Glory can be taken to further mitigate damage dealt on allied Heroes. Alternatively, Seraphim is never a bad choice, as it helps fight Yrel's susceptibility to enemy crowd control.
Level 1 Talents for Yrel
Increase Vindication's radius by 15%. Hitting an enemy Hero increases Vindication's healing by 40%. If more than one Hero is hit, the bonus is increased to 80%.
Casting a Basic Ability grants Yrel 50 Physical Armor for 2 seconds.
After damaging an enemy Hero with a Basic Ability, Yrel's next Basic Attack heals her for 128 (+4% per level).
Maraad's Insight's healing is significant enough to make it a great choice for team fights. Furthermore, this talent offers good value if Yrel is played as a solo-laner, as it will provide her with a lot of additional self-sustain.
Level 4 Talents for Yrel
Upon landing, Avenging Wrath grants other nearby allied Heroes 25 Armor for 4 seconds.
Divine Purpose heals the lowest Health nearby allied Hero other than Yrel for 275 (+4% per level).
- Cooldown: 20 seconds
Grant an allied Hero 35% Movement Speed for 3 seconds and remove all Slows and Roots from them.
Hand of Freedom's effect is strong against enemy Slows and Roots. But even if no ally is currently affected by these debuffs, the mere Movement Speed is great to empower crucial members of your composition, usually Assassins, Tanks, or Bruisers.
Gift of the Naaru is a good healing source, however, it can force Yrel to move unnaturally just to heal the target in need. As a result, we deem this talent to be too unreliable to make it a good choice.
Level 7 Talents for Yrel
Gain 5% Movement Speed. Yrel is no longer Slowed while Channeling Righteous Hammer, and instead this bonus is quadrupled.
Hitting an enemy Hero with Avenging Wrath at maximum charge reduces its cooldown to 1 second.
Mounting is instant and grants 60% Movement Speed that decays over 3 seconds.
Divine Steed causes Yrel to rotate very swiftly. Without a channel time and with the initial Movement Speed boost on her Mount, Yrel can get out of many dangerous situations.
Righteous Momentum permanently increases Yrel's Movement Speed which is always useful. Furthermore, it allows Yrel to land Righteous Hammer more reliably, which definitely helps her combat performance.
Level 10 Talents for Yrel
- Mana: 80
- Cooldown: 120 seconds
Surround Yrel in a barrier for 3 seconds, absorbing all damage taken and healing her for 50% of the damage received.
- Mana: 40
- Cooldown: 40 seconds
Yrel sanctifies the ground around her, gaining 50 Armor until she leaves the area.
Ardent Defender is the ultimate defensive ability available for Yrel. It makes her Invulnerable, however, unlike Uther's Divine Shield, Yrel remains targetable for the enemy team. The more damage she absorbs while Ardent Defender is active, the more healing she receives. Use this ability to shut down hard-hitting abilities, such as Jaina's Ring of Frost or Kael'thas's Pyroblast and strike back with replenished health. It is absolutely worth mentioning that Ardent Defender should usually be used while Yrel is still at 50% of her health or higher, in order to guarantee her participation during a team fight once the ability has expired. If used while Yrel is on the brink of death, it will usually result in her retreating anyway.
Sacred Ground unleashes its full potential on battlegrounds which feature a static Map Objective, such as Infernal Shrines or Sky Temple. If Yrel does not have to worry about getting left behind by a moving Map Objective and when it is all about holding a certain location, it will become extremely difficult for the enemy team to get past her.
Level 13 Talents for Yrel
Enemy Heroes hit by Vindication at maximum charge deal 40% less damage for 3 seconds.
Increase Avenging Wrath's Slow by 25% and duration by 0.75 seconds.
Hitting an enemy Hero with a Basic Ability at maximum charge grants 10% Spell Power for 10 seconds, up to 30%.
Repentance is a viable talent and gets most value if the enemy team features several low mobility Heroes who are punished by getting slowed. The additional Movement Speed Slow makes a big difference when it comes to either helping allies in need or, most importantly, securing kills on fleeing enemies.
Velen's Chosen is an overrated talent. The additional Ability damage offered can empower Yrel's combat performance tremendously, however, the fact that Yrel needs to hit enemy Heroes with maximum charged abilities in order to proc its value is too much of a limitation for it to become a recommended choice.
Level 16 Talents for Yrel
Righteous Hammer reduces the Armor of enemy Heroes hit by 20 for 4 seconds and deals bonus damage equal to 6% of their maximum Health.
Casting a Basic Ability reduces the cooldown of Divine Purpose by 1.5 seconds.
After casting a Basic Ability, Yrel's next Basic Attack splashes for 20% increased damage around the target.
Holy Wrath's damage bonus is surprisingly good. It allows Yrel to consistently (as long as she uses Basic Abilities) deal with Minion Waves but also nearby enemy Heroes. Since the bonus damage also applies to Structures, it makes her a pretty formidable Hero during pushes.
Level 20 Talents for Yrel
Ardent Defender heals nearby allied Heroes for 100% of the healing received by Yrel.
Casting Avenging Wrath while inside Sacred Ground moves Sacred Ground to Yrel's location upon landing.
- Cooldown: 80 seconds
After 1 second, Yrel becomes Invulnerable and casts Hearthstone. Cannot be canceled.
- Cooldown: 10 seconds
Activate to become Unstoppable for 2 seconds.
Seraphim is an underrated talent. Against several heavy crowd control Heroes in the enemy team, this talent allows Yrel to make sure her Basic Abilities do not get interrupted. The 10-second cooldown on Seraphim is short enough to make it a worthwhile investment.
Hallowed Ground should only be considered if Sacred Ground was picked at Level 10. But even then, it may be difficult to drag the sacred zone with Yrel all the time, making it a very situational choice.
Bubble Hearth is a fun talent. Unfortunately, it offers very little value in most situations. Yrel needs to channel it for a short period of time and any Stun or Silence she receives during that channel will cause Bubble Hearth to get interrupted.
