About the Author

Straften is a Grand Master ranked player in both Hero League and Team League. He has a passion for theorycrafting, and regularly tests new features early on the PTR. He explains his strategy, reasoning, and implementation in these guides.

1. Healing Brew

Li Li Healing Brew
Healing Brew (Q) World of Warcraft Li Li
  • Mana: 30
  • Cooldown: 3 seconds

Heal lowest Health ally (prioritizing Heroes) within 7 range for 196 (+4% per level) Health.

Healing Brew Icon Healing Brew heals an ally with the lowest percentage of maximum health (prioritising Heroes) within a radius around you.

Healing Brew, is a powerful and easy to use single-target healing ability. The downside is that Li Li lacks good AoE healing, although Two For One Icon Two For One at Level 16 can help to alleviate this. At only 30 Mana, Healing Brew is exceptionally Mana efficient. The Good Stuff Icon The Good Stuff at Level 7 further increases Healing Brew's effectiveness and efficiency.

Healing Brew's targeting system is its biggest issue. While healing the lowest health ally may seem optimal, it is not always most effective. For example, an ally with 1/3 maximum health that is being attacked by several enemies needs healing more urgently than an ally that is safely out of the fight with 1/5 maximum health. Unfortunately, the only method of dealing with this is to stand out of range of the ally with the lower health, only allowing Healing Brew to target the other ally. This is not always wise since it can require you to reposition yourself in high-risk spots. This does not work if you are the lowest health ally, as it is not possible to not be within range of your own Healing Brew. You can instantly cast Healing Brew when it comes off of cooldown by holding down "Q".

2. Cloud Serpent

Li Li Cloud Serpent
Cloud Serpent (W) World of Warcraft Li Li
  • Mana: 30
  • Cooldown: 10 seconds

Summon a Cloud Serpent on an allied Hero that attacks nearby enemies for 25 (+4% per level) damage per attack. Lasts for 8 seconds.

Cloud Serpent Icon Cloud Serpent summons a Cloud Serpent to assist the targeted Hero. It automatically attacks nearby enemies (prioritising Heroes). Heroes can only have 1 Cloud Serpent on them at a time. The Cloud Serpent lasts for 8 seconds.

Cloud Serpent provides damage, and can heal with each attack if you take Mending Serpent Icon Mending Serpent at level 4. It is a great way to help a teammate win trades, even untalented. It should be cast on Heroes who are within range of enemies, or who are about to engage. This is generally the tank, but it can also be cast on allied damage-dealing Heroes if they are pursuing or being pursued by enemies. Use Cloud Serpent whenever it is available. It is important to cast it on allies than do not already have a Cloud Serpent, as to not waste any of the duration.

3. Blinding Winds

Li Li Blinding Wind
Blinding Wind (E) World of Warcraft Li Li
  • Mana: 35
  • Cooldown: 9 seconds

Throw a cloud of wind at the 2 nearest enemies (prioritizing Heroes), dealing 140 (+4% per level) damage. Affected targets are Blinded for 2 seconds, causing their Basic Attacks to miss and deal no damage.

Blinding Wind Icon Blinding Wind damages and Blinds the 2 closest enemies (prioritising Heroes). Blinded enemies miss their Basic Attacks for the next 2 seconds. Bosses and Structures cannot be Blinded.

Blinding Wind simultaneously damages enemies and reduces the damage that your allies take. In team fights, use it whenever it is available. Once you have Mass Vortex Icon Mass Vortex at Level 4, it can offer you some waveclearing potentional, but before Level 4 you should never use it on minions, in order to conserve Mana. The Blind is exceptionally good versus enemy Garden Terrors and Dragon Knights, as well as the Ogre mercenaries, since they Basic Attack for a high amount of damage. Blinding Wind is also effective versus Heroes that rely on Basic Attacks, like Illidan, Raynor, and Sgt. Hammer.

4. Jug of 1,000 Cups

Li Li Jug of 1,000 Cups
Jug of 1,000 Cups (R) World of Warcraft Li Li
  • Heroic
  • Mana: 100
  • Cooldown: 70 seconds

Rapidly tosses brew to the most injured nearby allies within 10 range, restoring 1632 (+4% per level) Health over 6 seconds.

Jug of 1,000 Cups Icon Jug of 1,000 Cups is a semi-channelled ability that rapidly heals an ally with the lowest percentage of maximum health (prioritising Heroes) in a large radius around you for 6 seconds. Jug of 1,000 Cups will automatically switch targets based on their percentage of health. You are unable to use any abilities (including talent-based abilities) until the effect ends.

Jug of 1,000 Cups provides a massive amount of healing for you and your team. The range is long enough that you can keep a reasonable distance from a team fight, which you should take advantage of every time you use it. Do not stand adjacent to your allies when using Jug of 1,000 Cups, since it increases the likelihood that it will be interrupted by enemy crowd control. While most abilities have a short range or can be avoided with careful positioning, some abilities (like Cocoon Icon Cocoon and Judgment Icon Judgment) are targeted and have a long range, making them impossible to avoid. The only counterplay to these abilities is to either wait until they have been used, or to position yourself so that your team can punish them. There is a short delay between using Jug of 1,000 Cups and the first heal, so it is important to use the ability early if you think an ally is going to be burst down. Otherwise, the healing will not reach them in time.

Sometimes, if your team is very low on health, you can use Jug of 1,000 Cups to quickly heal them, even if they are not actively in combat. This can save your team the valuable time of having to recall back to base to heal or tapping a Well. It is important to only do this if several of your allies are low, as Healing Brew Icon Healing Brew can heal one or two allies to full health in just a few seconds.

5. Water Dragon

Li Li Water Dragon
Water Dragon (R) World of Warcraft Li Li
  • Heroic
  • Mana: 50
  • Cooldown: 45 seconds

Li Li channels for 2 seconds, summoning a Water Dragon that hits the nearest enemy Hero within 12 range and all enemies near them, dealing 318 (+4% per level) damage and slowing their Movement Speed by 70% for 4 seconds.

Water Dragon Icon Water Dragon summons a Water Dragon that (after a short delay) hits the nearest enemy Hero and all enemies near them, damaging and slowing their movement speed by 70% for 4 seconds. If there is no enemy Hero within range after the delay, no Water Dragon is summoned. Water Dragon is not a semi-channelled ability and it cannot be interrupted.

Although Water Dragon deals damage, it should be used primarily for the massive AoE Slow that it provides. Use the Slow to kite or chase enemy Heroes, allowing you (and your team) to gain or reduce distance respectfully.

To better understand when to choose Water Dragon over Jug of 1,000 Cups, please refer to Li Li's Recommended Level 10 abilities.

6. Fast Feet

Li Li Fast Feet
Fast Feet (D) World of Warcraft Li Li
  • Passive

Upon taking damage, gain 10% Movement Speed for 1 second.

Fast Feet Icon Fast Feet increases your movement speed by 10% for 1-second whenever you are damaged. It does not stack.

Fast Feet is Li Li's form of mobility. Any damage you take, no matter how small, will proc the effect, increasing your movement speed. This means that if you are being focused by the enemy team or taking splash damage during team fights, you will have 100% uptime of the ability. Use Fast Feet to outrun pursuing enemies, as they will only be able to keep up with you if mounted. Additionally, only Cloud Serpent Icon Cloud Serpent has a short cast-time, so her movement will be only briefly paused when using her abilities.
