About the Author

KendricSwissh is a Grand Master in both Hero and Team League, playing most Warrior and Support. He has been playing Heroes of the Storm since the early stages of the Alpha version and has mastered a large number of Heroes. He is also creating Heroes of the Storm related content on YouTube, most notably his series called HGC Hightlights. He is also a streamer on Twitch where he will gladly answer all of your questions about the game.

1. Light of Elune

Tyrande Light of Elune
Light of Elune (Q) World of Warcraft Tyrande
  • Mana: 45
  • Cooldown: 8 seconds

Tyrande heals herself for 160 (+4% per level). If cast on an ally, also heals them for 320 (+4% per level) Health.

Light of Elune Icon Light of Elune heals Tyrande for a small amount. If Light of Elune is cast on an ally, it also heals them for a double the amount.

Being Tyrande's only burst heal ability, Light of Elune is crucial in order to keep allies and herself alive. The fact that Light of Elune heals allies for double the amount it heals Tyrande is one of the reasons why she should not be played as a solo laner. Tyrande should use Light of Elune carefully, especially during the early stages of the game, as otherwise she risks running out of Mana very soon.

Keep in mind that Light of Elune always heals Tyrande herself even if you use it on Minions or Mercenaries, which is why we generally suggest healing others instead of simply casting it on yourself.

2. Sentinel

Tyrande Sentinel
Sentinel (W) World of Warcraft Tyrande
  • Mana: 65
  • Cooldown: 18 seconds

Send an Owl that travels across the battleground revealing its path. Deals 173 (+4% per level) damage to the first enemy Hero hit and reveals them for 5 seconds.

Sentinel Icon Sentinel causes Tyrande to send an Owl in a straight line, granting vision in its flight path. The Owl travels across the entire map and deals a small amount of damage to the first enemy Hero hit, also revealing them for 5 seconds. Hitting an enemy Hero causes the Owl to disappear.

Tyrande possesses the rare ability to reveal large parts of obscured terrain by sending an Owl to a target direction. Sentinel becomes Tyrande's most important skill if you decide to pick up offensive talents like Empower Icon Empower, Pierce Icon Pierce, or Ranger Icon Ranger.

Use Sentinel in order to scout if you do not see the opposing team on your Minimap or before blindly facechecking bushes. However, keep in mind that in certain situations it may not be the best choice to use Sentinel. If your team is trying to capture Mercenary Camps or Golem Bosses for example, an ill timed Owl could tell enemies about your position and consequently enable them to catch you off guard.

3. Lunar Flare

Tyrande Lunar Flare
Lunar Flare (E) World of Warcraft Tyrande
  • Mana: 60
  • Cooldown: 12 seconds

After 0.75 seconds, deal 205 (+4% per level) damage and stun enemies in the target area for 0.75 seconds.

Lunar Flare Icon Lunar Flare causes Tyrande to shoot a magic arrow that, after a short delay, stuns enemies in a small target area for 0.75 seconds. Enemies hit by Lunar Flare also take a medium amount of damage.

Lunar Flare is a powerful ability that adds some great crowd control to Tyrande's kit. Unlike most other Support Heroes, Tyrande can be played as a strong ganker. The following list contains the Heroes that harmonise particularly well when ganking with Tyrande due to their synergy in terms of damage and crowd control:

While Lunar Flare allows Tyrande to disrupt enemies from a safe distance, the fact that it is a skillshot makes it a skill that requires a lot of experience in order to be used efficiently. One of the most important things to keep in mind when using Lunar Flare is to predict your target's movement path. Anticipating the position of your target correctly is crucial when playing Tyrande, so do not shy away from practising against the AI before diving into Hero League or Team League matches.

4. Starfall

Tyrande Starfall
Starfall (R) World of Warcraft Tyrande
  • Heroic
  • Mana: 75
  • Cooldown: 80 seconds

Deal 118 (+4% per level) damage per second and slow enemies by 20% in an area. Lasts 8 seconds.

Starfall Icon Starfall causes Tyrande to summon a large circle in a target area for 8 seconds. Each enemy standing in that circle takes a small amount of damage each second. Enemies damaged by Starfall also have their movement speed reduced by 20% for as long as they remain in its area of effect. This Heroic Ability has a cooldown of 80 seconds.

Starfall slows and damages every enemy in its area of effect which makes it a very powerful Heroic Ability during team fights and pushes. As soon as a team fight breaks out, Starfall should be first abilitiy to be cast in order to deal as much damage as possible. One of Starfall's greatest advantages is its versatility, because it can be used both offensively and defensively. If used offensively, Starfall is able to slow retreating enemies which allows your teammates to collapse on them. If used defensively, Starfall can be used to disengage and run away from charging enemies.

It is worth mentioning that Starfall can drastically increase the efficiency of certain (Heroic) abilities which require the enemy team to be grouped up in a small area. Thus, it should be used when your team has one or more of the following (Heroic) abilities:

5. Shadowstalk

Tyrande Shadowstalk
Shadowstalk (R) World of Warcraft Tyrande
  • Heroic
  • Mana: 75
  • Cooldown: 60 seconds

Stealth all allied Heroes and heal them for 240 (+4% per level) over 8 seconds. At the conclusion of Shadowstalk, they receive a burst of 95 (+4% per level) healing.

Shadowstalk Icon Shadowstalk stealthes and heals all allied Heroes, including Tyrande herself, for 8 seconds and also causes them to receive an additional large burst of healing when Shadowstalk expires. This Heroic Ability has a cooldown of 60 seconds.

Shadowstalk is a powerful supportive Heroic Ability, which provides a significant amount of healing to every allied Hero in your team. Furthermore, it allows Tyrande to initiate hidden manoeuvres on the map to catch the enemy team off guard. While it may not always be easy to execute these rotations on your own in Hero League, they can absolutely decide the outcome of team fights in premade 5v5 Team League or Quick Match games.

To maximise this Heroic Ability's efficiency, we recommend using Sentinel Icon Sentinel shortly before activating Shadowstalk. This provides better vision to your team, which may result in better ganks. Furthermore, bigger maps like Cursed Hollow or Sky Temple on which it is harder for the enemy team to predict your position increase the efficiency of Shadowstalk. On smaller maps like Towers of Doom or Tomb of the Spider Queen, however, the strong AoE-damage from Starfall Icon Starfall can sometimes be the better choice.

6. Hunter's Mark

Tyrande Hunter's Mark
Hunter's Mark (D) World of Warcraft Tyrande
  • Cooldown: 20 seconds

Reveal a target enemy and lower their Armor by 25 for 4 seconds, increasing all damage taken by 25%. Cannot be used on Structures.

Hunter's Mark Icon Hunter's Mark allows Tyrande to mark an enemy, revealing them and increasing all damage taken by 25% for 4 seconds. Hunter's Mark cannot be used on Structures.

Tyrande's Hunter's Mark is one of the strongest traits in the game when it comes to taking down a single target very quickly. It synergises extremely well with both Tyrande's own and her allies' sources of burst damage. Hunter's Mark can even cause enemy Warriors to become relatively squishy targets, which forces them to think carefully about engaging a team fight or not.

Keep in mind that Hunter's Mark can be used to greatly increase Lunar Flare Icon Lunar Flare's and Sentinel Icon Sentinel's damage as well. Since it has the same casting range as Lunar Flare, we recommend marking your chosen target first before hitting it with your other abilities in order to maximise your overall damage.
