General Information

On this page, we explain everything that is specific to the Group Progression variant of Shadow Impale Demon Hunter. Updated for patch 2.6 and Season 11.

The other pages of our Shadow Impale Demon Hunter guide can be accessed from the table of contents on the right.

1. Group Progression

Even though it is not the top performing single target damage spec for groups, the Shadow Impale Demon Hunter is still very viable and highly ranking build in group clears.

As the group's single target clearer, you will swap the Ricochet Ricochet rune of Impale Impale to Chemical Burn Chemical Burn.

In group pushes you will drop Chain of Shadows Chain of Shadows for the pure damage increase of The Witching Hour The Witching Hour, so simply alternate the rune for easier Discipline management with Tumble Tumble.

Since your toughness and crowd control will be taken care of by support teammates, switch Fan of Knives Fan of Knives Bladed Armor Bladed Armor out for the additive damage boost of Marked for Death Marked for Death Valley of Death Valley of Death to better assist your AoE DPS teammate.

Due to the scaling health numbers in 4-man groups and the stacking mechanic of Bane of the Stricken Bane of the Stricken, Ambush Ambush from the soloing spec greatly diminishes in value for your primary party role — the boss killer. Take Single Out Single Out in its place for consistency during the GR Guardian kill.

In group play, where survival is not yours to manage, swap Numbing Traps Numbing Traps into Steady Aim Steady Aim for the extra damage on isolated targets, especially the Rift Guardian.

3. Adapting Gear

When pushing group GRs, the timing of Convention of Elements Convention of Elements and the defense of Elusive Ring Elusive Ring will both be misplaced, so you can swap to the consistent damage increase from a Fire-rolled Stone of Jordan Stone of Jordan.

For the bracer slot, consider taking Fire damage Lacuni Prowlers Lacuni Prowlers for maximum damage output on the Rift Guardian.

In group GRs where you will be limited by the pace of the party, simply switch belts to the glass cannon staple The Witching Hour The Witching Hour to optimize damage against the boss.

5. Adapting Kanai's Cube

Taken purely for the damage increase, Magefist Magefist will occupy your armor Cube slot. Unlike a soloing spec where you can alternate with Elusive Ring Elusive Ring, the jewelry slot of the group spec will be occupied by Convention of Elements Convention of Elements by necessity.
