Whitemane's Talent Build Cheatsheet
Inquisition Build
RecommendedWhitemane's Inquisition Build is based on Talents that increase the defensive and offensive effectiveness of Inquisition, making it a useful peeling tool and a powerful follow up for allied engages.
Subjugation at Level 13 will reduce the damage done by enemy Heroes and Shared Punishment at Level 16 will reduce their Armor, a great combination of Talents that will shift damage and healing in your team's favor. To do all of this more often, we have Pity the Frail at Level 1.
Searing Lash Build
SituationalWhitemane's Searing Lash Build empowers Searing Lash, increasing your damage output and giving you access to crowd control in the late game. Consider going for this Build when you expect Inquisition to be interrupted too often and too quickly.
Block enemy Heroes with Harsh Discipline at Level 16 to help your team deal more damage to them or to peel when needed. When doing so, you can easily get a cooldown reset from Lashing Out at Level 13.
ARAM Build
ARAMWhitemane's ARAM Build is based on Talents that increase the defensive and offensive effectiveness of Inquisition, making it a useful peeling tool and a powerful follow up for allied engages.
Subjugation at Level 13 will reduce the damage done by enemy Heroes and Shared Punishment at Level 16 will reduce their Armor, a great combination of Talents that will shift damage and healing in your team's favor. To do all of this more often, we have Pity the Frail at Level 1.
Level 1 Talents for Whitemane
For every Hero hit with Searing Lash, lower the cooldown of Inquisition by 1.5 seconds. Allies below 30% Health receive 25% more healing from Whitemane.
Pity the Frail is a strong Talent that increases all of your healing to targets with low Health and reduces the cooldown of Inquisition based on the number of enemy Heroes hit by Searing Lash.
Searing Lash deals 25% more damage to enemies. If the second strike hits an enemy Hero, they take an additional 25% damage and Whitemane gains 40% Attack Speed for 3 seconds.
Righteous Flame is a decent Talent that increases the damage done by Searing Lash and, if its second strike connects, your Attack Speed by 25% for 4 seconds.
As a consequence of how Zeal works, the additional damage provided by this Talent will let you heal more.
Quest: Hit Heroes with Searing Lash.
Reward: Each Hero hit grants 3 permanent Health and 2 permanent Mana. Heroes hit with the second strike count as 2 hits.
Inquisitor's Prayer is a Quest that adds permanent Health and Mana for each Hero hit with Searing Lash. The permanent Health slightly increases your survivability. The permanent Mana you gain from this Talent can enable you to cast Desperate Plea one more time during a team fight in the late game.
We do not recommend this Talent because the Health and Mana values are too low to be meaningful compared to the other options in the same Tier and because the Quest forces you to interact with enemy Heroes even when you should not.
Level 4 Talents for Whitemane
Increase Whitemane's Basic Attack range by 1.1. Whitemane gains 20% increased Basic Attack damage for each active Zeal buff.
Unwavering Faith is a good Talent that gives you more Attack Damage and more Attack Range, making it easier to deliver Basic Attacks.
Since dealing damage increases healing via Zeal, this Talent makes Whitemane heal more.
The additional Attack Range is useful for Talents based on Basic Attacks: Righteous Flame at Level 1, Saintly Greatstaff at Level 7, and Scarlet Wrath at Level 13.
Desperate Plea's healing is increased by 30%. Increase this by an additional 10% for each active Zeal.
Martyrdom increases your healing without the need of enemy Heroes nearby, basically mitigating the main weakness that Whitemane has without lowering your healing output in team fights.
When you want to heal multiple Heroes out of combat, try to use the first Desperate Plea on who needs less healing because the second one will heal more. When in combat, however, you should be careful because you may not have enough time for doing it.
Gain 5% Movement Speed. Increase this by an additional 5% for each active Zeal.
Indulgence gives Whitemane bonus Movement Speed that helps you to dodge enemy Abilities, to land Basic Attacks, and to get in a better position for casting Abilities. While not a bad Talent, it does not directly increase your healing output, therefore it is the least interesting choice of this Tier.
Level 7 Talents for Whitemane
Upon reaching 2 stacks of Desperation, Whitemane gains Zeal.
Zealous Spirit is a tool that helps you manage your Mana by creating a Zeal buff on yourself that does not generate a stack of Desperation. This means that you can have 3 recently activated Zeal buffs with only 2 stacks of Desperation. Another way to think about this is that the sustainable amount of active Zeal targets is increased from 2 to 3.
Enemy Heroes hit by Searing Lash are marked for 3 seconds. Basic Attacks against them deal an additional 55 (+4% per level) Spell damage and remove the mark.
Saintly Greatstaff makes the next Basic Attack against enemy Heroes recently hit with Searing Lash deal bonus Spell Damage. Remember that the additional damage will increase your healing output because of Zeal.
If you issue a Basic Attack command immediately after casting Searing Lash, you can benefit from this Talent twice with a single cast because that Basic Attack will consume the first mark before the second mark will be applied.
- Cooldown: 45 seconds
Activate to make an ally Unstoppable for 1 second.
Intercession is one of two tools that Whitemane has that can grant an ally Unstoppable, the other option being Scarlet Crusade at Level 20.
Pick this Talent against team compositions who have access to crowd control effects and position in a way that you will not be their target because it cannot be self-cast.
Level 10 Talents for Whitemane
In this section we discuss when and why to pick a given Heroic Ability. If you want to read how they work in detail and/or you are looking for some tips on how to use them, check them out on the Abilities and Strategy page.
- Cooldown: 60 seconds
Bolster the spirits of nearby allied Heroes, healing them for 300 (+4% per level) and granting them 40 Armor for 4 seconds.
Scarlet Aegis is a strong Heroic Ability that heals all nearby allies and applies Zeal to them. This means that you can apply Zeal to all nearby allied Heroes simultaneously without gaining any Desperation stacks.
The bonus Armor provided by this Heroic is also very beneficial, and can counterbalance the Armor debuff that is caused by activating Zeal. If you lose 15 Armor and gain 40 Armor, you end up having 25 Armor remaining.
- Cooldown: 75 seconds
After 1 second, consecrate an area for 4 seconds, dealing 50 (+4% per level) damage every 0.5 seconds to enemies inside. 25% of the damage dealt to Heroes is returned as Mana.
Divine Reckoning is a good Heroic Ability that deals damage over time in an area, and restores some Mana based on damage dealt. The damage done by it will increase your Zeal's healing. Divine Reckoning works best in team compositions that can help trap enemy Heroes within its area.
Level 13 Talents for Whitemane
Inquisition reduces all damage the target deals by 50%.
Subjugation greatly reduces the damage of any enemies affected by Inquisition. It pairs extremely well with Shared Punishment, which can double the number of affected enemy Heroes.
If Searing Lash's second strike hits an enemy Hero, reduce its cooldown to 1 second.
Lashing Out allows you to cast Searing Lash much more often in team fights, as long as the second strike hits an enemy Hero.
While in theory it is a powerful Talent, in practice it will be hard to get value from it, unless the enemy team has low mobility and/or your team has a lot of crowd control.
Basic Attacks against Heroes increase the duration of all active Zeals by 0.75 seconds and lower the cooldown of Zeals activation by 4 seconds.
Scarlet Wrath is a weak Talent that, each time Whitemane delivers a Basic Attack, increases the duration of active Zeal buffs on allied Heroes and reduces the cooldown of Zeal.
A prolonged Zeal buff does not need to be refreshed by casting Desperate Plea that often, resulting in less Mana consumption during long team fights.
We do not recommed this Talent because is does not have any strong synergy with other Talents and it gives low value compared to the alternatives in the same Tier.
Level 16 Talents for Whitemane
Reaching 3 stacks of Desperation heals for 175 (+4% per level) and reapplies Zeal to allies with Zeal.
Radiance is weak Talent that can help Whitemane heal more than usual, mostly in the form of burst healing, but also by refreshing the duration of any active Zeal, which helps when sustain healing is needed.
A common trick is to use Scarlet Aegis to spread Zeal to make it trigger on as many allied Heroes as possible rather than only on 3 Heroes, however, you still need to use Desperate Plea to reach 3 stack of Desperation in order to get the healing from Radiance.
A secret trick is to make Radiance trigger by reaching 3 stacks of Desperation, use Inquisition or Clemency to remove 1 stack of Desperation, and make it trigger again by going back to 3 stacks of Desperation.
We do not recommed this Talent because is does not have any strong synergy with other Talents and it gives low value compared to the alternatives in the same Tier.
Upon casting, Inquisition can chain to an additional enemy Hero near its target, dealing 50 (+4% per level) damage every 0.5 seconds. Affected enemies lose 10 Armor.
Shared Punishment increases healing by doubling the number of Inquisition targets. It also reduces the Armor of enemies affected by Inquisition. Shared Punishment will still cause Inquisition to chain to an enemy if it is cast onto an ally via Clemency. This enables you to position more safely while channeling Inquisition for damage.
Hitting a Hero with Searing Lash while they are being targeted by Inquisition Roots them for 1.5 seconds.
Passive: Reduce Inquisition's cooldown by 2 seconds.
Harsh Discipline is the only Talent in Whitemane's kit that can inflict hard crowd-control. To make the Root happen, you have to cast Searing Lash and then follow with Inquisition immediately after.
While being a crowd control Talent, Harsh Discipline might indirectly increase your healing by ensuring that the second strike of Searing Lash will hit an enemy Hero. The damage produced this way will be converted to healing thanks to Zeal. All that said, following up on crowd control by allied Heroes will give you the same result anyways, unless your team lacks crowd control, in which case you might like this Talent a bit more.
Level 20 Talents for Whitemane
Scarlet Aegis heals for 50% more and makes affected allies Unstoppable for 2 seconds.
Scarlet Crusade is a strong Talent that can grant multiple allied Heroes, and even Whitemane, Unstoppable. During the late game, preventing or removing crowd-control Abilities can often mean turning the game in your team's favor.
Divine Reckoning deals 50% more damage and pulls enemies to its center the first time it hits them.
Judgment Day is a good upgrade for Divine Reckoning that adds a bit of crowd-control to the consecrated area. If your team composition's win condition is to chain damage dealing Heroics, this may be a good option.
- Cooldown: 30 seconds
Activate to cast a permanent Zeal on an allied Hero that costs no Mana and doesn't grant Desperation. Only one can be active at a time and has global cast range.
Guiding Light is a situational Talent that can be activated to permanently grant Zeal to an allied Hero. You may want this Talent if your team has a Hero who likes to dive (for example Zeratul), however, the default Zeal duration of 8 seconds is enough in most situations.
- Cooldown: 40 seconds
Activate to blast an enemy Hero with holy fire, reducing their Armor by 25 and dealing 300 (+4% per level) damage over 4 seconds.
Purge the Wicked is a good Talent that can be cast on an enemy Hero to reduce their Armor and deal damage over time, useful when your team struggles getting a kill.
Keep in mind that the additional damage will be converted to healing from your Trait, Zeal, making it a good option when you require additional healing as well.
