1. Heroes Xul Works Well With

In this section, we will look at the Heroes that work particularly well with Xul.

1.1. Arthas

Arthas Portrait Arthas matches Xul's aggressive playstyle while also adding strong additional Slow and Root effects as a follow up to Bone Prison Icon Bone Prison. Considering Arthas' decent waveclear, these two Heroes make for a strong couple.

1.2. Jaina

Jaina Portrait Jaina has strong waveclear due to her numerous AoE abilities, which allows her to destroy Minion waves very fast, especially if teamed up with Xul. Similarly to Arthas, her Slow effects make her an ideal follow up candidate for Xul's Bone Prison Icon Bone Prison. It is worth mentioning, that the massive movement speed slow from Skeletal Mages Icon Skeletal Mages allows Jaina to land her Ring of Frost Icon Ring of Frost much more precisely.

1.3. Johanna

Johanna Portrait Johanna and Xul combine an insanely powerful waveclear potential. Together, these two Heroes shred through enemy Minion waves, which will force the enemy team to either defend or risk losing Structures early on. Furthermore, Johanna's Condemn Icon Condemn and Blessed Shield Icon Blessed Shield can provide enough crowd control for Xul's Poison Nova Icon Poison Nova to hit multiple targets.

2. Heroes Xul Is Countered By

In this section, we will look at the Heroes that counter Xul particularly well.

2.1. Johanna

Johanna Portrait While Johanna is a valuable ally when playing Xul, she is also one of the scariest foes to face. She is one of the few Heroes, whose waveclear can match Xul's, which denies a lot of his early game momentum.

2.1.1. How To Play Against Johanna

Ignoring Johanna is usually the best way to deal with her, unless she is extremely out of position. Only use Bone Prison Icon Bone Prison on her if you are absolutely certain that her Iron Skin Icon Iron Skin is on cooldown, otherwise she can easily counter its Root effect. Instead, focus on less tanky priority targets like Assassins, Specialists, and Supports.

2.2. Li-Ming

Li-Ming Portrait Xul usually struggles against high mobility Assassins like Li-Ming, who can dodge his attacks and abilities fairly easily. Also, Li-Ming's huge burst damage allows her to quickly break Xul's Bone Armor Icon Bone Armor.

2.2.1. How To Play Against Li-Ming

Keeping track of Li-Ming's Teleport Icon Teleport ability is crucial. Only use your Bone Prison Icon Bone Prison when you just saw her use it. Furthermore, try to hide behind Minions and your Skeletons to protect yourself against her Magic Missiles Icon Magic Missiles and Arcane Orb Icon Arcane Orb.

2.3. Tracer

Tracer Portrait Tracer is an extremely dangerous Hero to face as Xul. She is fast, hard to catch, and dishes out consiberable burst damage, especially if her Pulse Bomb Icon Pulse Bomb is off cooldown.

2.3.1. How To Play Against Tracer

Tracer is dependent on her Recall Icon Recall, which often makes her playstyle predictable. If Recall is on cooldown, she will be forced to play much more defensively, which makes forcing an early Recall by using Bone Prison Icon Bone Prison, for instance, very rewarding. In a straight one-on-one Xul will almost always lose to Tracer, which makes overextending very unforgiving against her. Thus, we recommend keeping a keen eye on the Minimap at all times, especially if you intend to push lanes or siege enemy Structures with your Skeletons.
