Glossary of Terms

On this page, we are maintaining a list of all the Hearthstone terminology that we use in our guides which we believe requires additional explanation. In some cases, the terms may be totally unknown to some of our readers, while in other cases they may have a different meaning than their wording may imply.
The attack value listed on the bottom left of minion cards. This number is the attack value used in combat calculations.
Minions that use their listed effect after they are played from hand.
A maximum of 7 minions can be played on your board at any given time.
The area in which you buy minions in the non-fighting phase.
Purchasing a minion from Bob's Tavern for 3 gold.
A Hearthstone Keyword. Listed on minions as "Also damages the minions next to whomever it attacks." These minions will damage the minions to the left and right of the one they attack.
How your gameplan incorporates leveling to the next highest Tavern Tier.
Minions that use their listed effect after they die.
The group of minions in which you are planning to reach by the end of the game.
A Hearthstone Keyword. Divine Shield blocks the first instance of damage a minion with it would take.
The act of keeping or locking the minions in Bob's Tavern for the next round.
The cost of any particular action in Bob's Tavern.
The health value listed on the bottom right of minion cards. This number is the remaining health value used in combat calculations.
The hero's unique ability, found directly to the right of the portrait.
One-word text that describes the qualities of a minion. Includes Taunt, Poisonous, Divine Shield, Reborn, Windfury, and Cleave.
The current power level of all Heroes and minions available as a whole.
The units you buy, sell, and play around.
A Hearthstone Keyword. Any minion that takes damage from a poisonous minion will die immediately no matter thier remaining Health. Note that Poisonous will not work through Divine Shield.
A Hearthstone Keyword. Reborn minions will re-summon themselves with 1 Health remaining after dying.
The act of changing the minions available in Bob's Tavern for 1 gold.
Giving a minion back to Bob's Tavern for 1 gold.
The level at which you are in Bob's Tavern. Minions with a specific Tavern Tier are only available once you reach that tier.
A Hearthstone Keyword. Any minions with Taunt have to be attacked before minions without Taunt.
A particular Tavern Tier in which minions can be found.
How strong your minions are at a given turn.
A way to describe a sellable low-value minion that is provided by the effect of another minion.
The type of a particular minion, noted at the bottom of the card. Includes Beasts, Demons, Dragons, Elementals, Mechs, Murlocs, Naga, Pirates, Quilboar, and Undead.
A Hearthstone Keyword. Windfury minions are able to attack twice in a row.
