Table of Contents

Maelstrom Portal is a Shaman-only spell. This card can be obtained in the One Night in Karazhan solo adventure. Below the card images, you will find explanations to help you use the card optimally in every game mode of Hearthstone.

1. General Comments

Maelstrom Portal is a strong card which can completely alter the course of the game in some circumstances. It particularly shines against aggressive opponents, as it can wipe out entire armies of small minions. The card is also very strong in conjunction with Spell Damage, and even when it does not destroy opposing minions it can often be used to set up very favourable trades.

2. Constructed Play

In Constructed, Maelstrom Portal is very powerful. Shaman decks often want to make very wide boards to get the most out of Bloodlust, Flametongue Totem, and Thrall, Deathseer, and the minion produced from Maelstrom Portal can be very handy in this regard while simultaneously taking care of opposing threats. The card is also strong in Control decks, where there is more time available to set up Spell Damage either from within the deck, or by rolling Wrath of Air Totem.

3. Arena

Maelstrom Portal is a very good card in Arena due to its ability to provide a swing turn. In the early game it can reverse who is in charge of the board, while later on it can be combined with Spell Damage from Wrath of Air Totem to do large amounts of damage to opposing positions.
