3. Comments On The Variation

This variant of Highlander Priest, like most variants, features large amounts of card draw to help draw into the powerful Shadowreaper Anduin and Raza the Chained combination as soon as possible.

This primary differences in this variant are the additional minions such as Dirty Rat, Wild Pyromancer, and Kabal Talonpriest that can be used to fight for board control, which is incredibly useful against popular decks such as Tempo Rogue.

Dirty Rat is also an excellent card for removing key minions from the hand of many popular decks such as Raza the Chained from Highlander Priests, Doppelgangster from Evolve Shamans, and Archmage Antonidas or Sorcerer's Apprentice from Exodia Mages.

This variant also contains Holy Fire in place of the more commonly used Greater Healing Potion. Although this change results in a smaller healing effect, if the damage from Holy Fire kills an enemy minion, this will often prevent damage in future turns to make up for the healing deficit. Holy Fire also allows a much more aggressive stance to be taken as the damage can be used offensively to help burn down opponents if their Health to get low and can often put opponents in range of the powerful Prophet Velen and Mind Blast combination.

3.1. Pros and Cons

The additional minions and Holy Fire present make this variant stronger against Aggro decks that use Tempo boost Prince Keleseth to dominate the board and win the game. However, Greater Healing Potion and Gluttonous Ooze have been removed as a result, making this variant a bit more vulnerable to decks that have large amounts of direct damage, such as Pirate Warrior.

3.2. Quick Mulligan Guide

Highlander Priest is heavily dependant on playing the combination of Raza the Chained and Shadowreaper Anduin and you should therefore mulligan aggressively for these cards in addition to Kazakus.

Against aggressive opponents you can mulligan away Shadowreaper Anduin and look for solid early-game minions and spells instead such as Holy Smite, Potion of Madness, Shadow Word: Pain, and Dirty Rat to help ensure your opponent does not dominate the board.
