Cubelock became an archetype with the release of the Kobolds and Catacombs expansion. Carnivorous Cube, Possessed Lackey, and Skull of the Man'ari all work together to produce a large number of Doomguards. This effect is particularly desirable because Doomguard has charge, and can therefore be used as a defensive minion, as well as an aggressive one.

The main effect works by getting a Doomguard for free (by the death of a Possessed Lackey, or put into play by Skull of the Man'ari), and after it has attacked, using Carnivorous Cube to remove it from the game. The Cube is then removed on the following turn to produce two Doomguards. This will often be enough to win the game, but even if it is not, the rest of the shell is very strong and Bloodreaver Gul'dan can often bring back several Doomguards in one turn.

Dog's Rank One Legend Cube Warlock Deck is Dog's build of Cubelock which took him to Rank 1 Legend near the start of the Kobolds and Catacombs meta. It includes Rin, the First Disciple for extra value in the mirror match-up. Although it is a tough deck to play accurately, it is powerful and not particularly punishing. This makes it suitable for most levels of play.

Cubelock Deck evolved very slowly from Dog's original deck, but the main difference was the addition of Mountain Giant. The Giants allow the deck to have more threats against slower decks, so as to be able to apply pressure while they scramble their defenses.

1. Aim of the Deck

The Aim of the deck is to gain a huge advantage through the use of multiple Doomguards. This can be used to either rapidly kill your opponent, or to outvalue them to the point where they can no longer defend themselves. There are many other powerful interactions in the deck besides the one between Doomguard and Carnivorous Cube, which allows the deck to buy plenty of time to set up the key Combo.

2. Strengths and Weaknesses

The deck is equally powerful against Aggro and Control archetypes. It can withstand an early assault and then stabilise using Dark Pact and Taunts against aggressive decks, while against Control decks it can get a large amount of value from the Carnivorous Cube and Doomguard combo.

Against Combo decks, the deck can be slow. For instance, Highlander Priest can silence use Silence to slow down the deck, and then win using Shadowreaper Anduin.

3. Key Cards and Crafting

3.1. Legendaries

Skull of the Man'ari and Bloodreaver Gul'dan are the two most essential Legendary cards in the deck. Each of them adds a huge amount of tempo to the deck, and it is not recommended you try the deck without them. If you wanted to try the deck with just the Skull, and not Gul'dan in casual mode to get a feel for how the deck might function, you can probably do so albeit at a dramatic change in win rate.

Rin, the First Disciple, Spiritsinger Umbra, and Bloodmage Thalnos are all non-essential cards in the deck, but each of them will help. Bloodmage Thalnos in particular is found in a lot of decks, and if you can spare some dust will be a good investment for the future.

3.2. Epics

Carnivorous Cube is 100% essential to the deck and the deck will not function without it. Voidlord is extremely important, as is Twisting Nether. There may be variants without these cards, but you will need one or the other to be able to defend yourself to even try to play the archetype.
