Wild Quest Priest Deck List Guide - Rise of Shadows April 2019
This guide contains detailed Strategy, Mulligan, and deck-building information to help you play Quest Priest in The Boomsday Project expansion.
Quest Priest is a slow archetype that uses the Awaken the Makers Quest from the Journey to Un'Goro expansion. However, it was not until the Witchwood expansion that the deck became a core part of the meta game at a high level.

The Mulligan for Quest Priest is fairly consistent across all matchups. Despite being a Control deck, the primary aim is to get the Awaken the Makers Quest completed in a timely manner to have the security of the healing from Amara, Warden of Hope readily available.
Crystalline Oracle is the best card to have in your opening hand universally, as it is a solid proactive opening that challenges Aggro decks and generates value against Control. Loot Hoarder and Dead Ringer can also be sought after as a solid follow-up. If you already have at least two of these cards, Twilight's Call can also be kept to greatly aid Quest completion.
Against Aggro, you can additionally keep a copy of Duskbreaker to ensure you the early-game board does not snowball out of control.
In the early game, your primary goal should be to play and work towards the completion of the Awaken the Makers Quest. This can primarily be done with Crystalline Oracle, Loot Hoarder, and Dead Ringer. You should aim to use these minions to make efficient trades whenever possible.
Going into turns 3 and 4, you can begin to start looking to play your first copy of Twilight's Call if you have had at least 2 Deathrattle minions die prior. At this early stage in the game, it will often bring back Crystalline Oracle, Dead Ringer, and Loot Hoarder to generate a huge card advantage over your opponent for future turns. If you are facing a very aggressive opponent, you can also look to use a copy of Duskbreaker to regain control of the board.
Continuing through turns 5 and 6, you will gain access to Rotten Applebaum and Bone Drake. You are free to play these minions in addition to any previously mentioned Deathrattle minions and should be at a point where you have completed or are close to completing your Quest.
From turn 7 onward, you will gain the ability to play Archbishop Benedictus, which will dramatically change the dynamic of your deck. Most of the time, you are free to play the card whenever you wish, but there are a couple of considerations to make beforehand. Firstly, you should make sure you have your Quest completed as playing Benedictus will dilute your deck and reduce the chance you draw into any more Deathrattle minions for your Quest. Secondly, you should never play it early against Control Warlock. This is specifically due to the threat of Azari, the Devourer destroying your deck. In this matchup specifically, Benedictus can be played after Azari to refill your deck.
Throughout the game, you will gain access to a large range of minions from your opponent's deck, either from Archbishop Benedictus or Crystalline Oracle. Due to the large amount of diversity on the cards you may obtain, it is impossible to offer an accurate strategy on how to use them. However, as a rule of thumb you can play them freely to make efficient use of your Mana as you will almost always have card advantage over your opponent.
If you lose control of the board against your opponent, Quest Priest offers a multitude of tools that will make you well equipped for any situation. In addition to the aforementioned Duskbreaker, the late game offers Primordial Drake as an additional form of AoE in addition to a large Taunt minion. If your opponent develops an especially large board, Psychic Scream can be used to slow your opponent right down. However, before you use it, it is important to consider the state of the board as you can weaken your opponent's deck in the process. For example, you should aim to trade away minions like Amara, Warden of Hope and Archbishop Benedictus to avoid giving your opponent access to them. Conversely, you should ensure to leave any minions alive that would be poor for your opponent to draw, such as Silver Hand Recruits.
If your Health begins to get low, the deck has two main healing options available, Spirit Lash and Amara, Warden of Hope. Spirit Lash is the more niche of the two cards and you should aim to use it if the situation fits. Where possible, you should aim to combine it with Bloodmage Thalnos for an additionally powerful Healing effect. It Spirit Lash does not fit the situation, you can lose Amara as a last resort. When playing Amara, you should always aim to combine it with Zola the Gorgon to give your second copy to use later in the game.
When it finally comes to ending the game, you have 3 main options for doing so:
- By taking advantage of the huge amount of healing and and value the deck has to offer, you will often be able to run your opponents out of steam. This can will either happen by your opponent running out of cards to contest the board, or exhausting their whole deck to inevitably die to fatigue damage.
- You can use a combination of Shadowreaper Anduin and Alexstrasza to burn down your opponent. Because the deck has so much healing banked in Amara, Warden of Hope, you can freely use your Shadowreaper Anduin as you see fit as a tool to either control the board or chip away at your opponent's Health.
- The last, and least common, way to win the game is through tempo. Due to the large number of board clears available in the deck, it is possible to use them to gain control of the board and then snowball out of control. However, this is an unreliable way to win as it will often depend on what cards you get from your opponent's deck but you should keep it in mind nonetheless.
Quick Tips and Tricks
- Use Twilight's Call as cheap way to push towards completion of Awaken the Makers.
- Combine Zola the Gorgon with Amara, Warden of Hope for a second big heal.
- Do not play Archbishop Benedictus until you have completed Awaken the Makers.
- Try to avoid having key minions like Amara, Warden of Hope and Archbishop Benedictus on the board when using Psychic Scream.
