Table of Contents

This version of Taunt Druid focuses on more early-game board presence. It cuts out some late-game cards in addition to Swipe putting a higher priority on pulling off big combos with Taunt minions and buffs. This version was used by Kolento to hit rank 1 Legend.

3. Comments On The Variation

This variant follows in the footsteps of other Taunt Druid decks and makes some optimisations for an overall faster strategy.

The most notable change from this variant is the lack of Swipe. As a large part of the decks strategy involved extracting the maximum value from Spreading Plague it can often be detrimental to use Swipe as it will often kill small minions on the opponents side of the board that can be used to spawn extra Scarab Beetles.

The variant also opts to use a copy of Tar Creeper over a second Crypt Lord. This may seem like a poor decision, but the extra attack from Tar Creeper on opponents turns allows it to survive situations where Crypt Lord would simply be killed due to its 1 Attack.

The last major difference is the inclusion of Living Mana. Although it is usually used in Aggro decks, the fact this variant naturally plays Mark of the Lotus and Power of the Wild means there is a lot of potential to get good value from Living Mana and allows it to function as an alternate win condition of the Taunt strategy fails. Other variants more commonly use Arcane Giants to try and achieve a similar alternate strategy.

4. Pros and Cons

At the time of writing, this is the most refined version of Taunt Druid as reflected in its use for achieving rank 1 Legend. As a fast variant it is generally able to achieve its win condition faster and is stronger against Aggro decks.

The heavy focus on flooding the board makes the variant more vulnerable to board clears, especially Control decks that are able to clear the board multiple times in a single game.
