Overview
Argus the Unmaker is a four phase encounter, and the final boss in Antorus, the Burning Throne. Argus is a fast paced encounter, with a variety of mechanics unleashed on the raid, many of which can result in instant death if handled improperly. Throughout the encounter the raid can expect the aid of other Titans who grant the raid unique boons and even bring the group back from beyond death...
Titanic Essence
Argus the Unmaker builds Titanic Essence over time. Argus starts at 0 Titanic Essence, and has a maximum of 100. At 100 Essence he will cast Cone of Death. The rate at which Argus builds Titanic Essence is approximately 3.3 Essence per second.
Phase One: Storm and Sky
Phase One lasts until Argus reaches 70% health.
Cone of Death and Death Fog
Cone of Death is a cone attack that targets a random raid member, and leaves behind Death Fog where it strikes. Death Fog inflicts very heavy Shadow damage every second to players within the cloud. Cone of Death is cast when Argus reaches 100 Titanic Essence, which is essentially an Energy substitute.
Soulblight Orb
Soulblight Orb is summoned periodically by Argus the Unmaker. The Orb applies Soulblight debuffs to several random players before despawning. Soulblight deals moderate Shadow damage every 2 seconds for 8 seconds. When Soulblight expires, it leaves behind a pool of Death Fog at the target's location.
Tortured Rage
Tortured Rage is cast periodically and inflicts moderate raid-wide Shadow damage.
Sweeping Scythe
Sweeping Scythe cleaves all targets in a 180 degree cone in front of Argus the Unmaker, dealing heavy Physical damage and applying a debuff that increases the damage of subsequent Sweeping Scythes by 150% (75% on Normal) for 15 seconds (per stack).
Golganneth's Aid
Golganneth the Thunderer, another Titan of the Pantheon, periodically offers the raid several buffs to increase the efficacy of their abilities. Golganneth will mark two players at a time; one will be marked with Gift of the Sky, while the other will be marked with Gift of the Sea. After several seconds an orb will spawn at their current location.
Gift of the Sky and Strength of the Sky
Gift of the Sky will appear as an orb that lasts for 10 seconds. Anyone that comes into contact with the orb during that time will receive the Strength of the Sky. Strength of the Sky increases Critical Strike and Mastery by 2000 for 30 seconds. This effect can stack, however, each player may only receive one instance of Strength of the Sky per Gift of the Sky orb. This effect is also mutually exclusive with the Strength of the Sea; you can only have one buff at a time.
Gift of the Sea and Strength of the Sea
Gift of the Sea will appear as an orb that lasts for 10 seconds. Anyone that comes into contact with the orb during that time will receive the Strength of the Sea. Strength of the Sea increases Haste and Versatility by 2000 for 30 seconds. This effect can stack, however, each player may only receive one instance of Strength of the Sea per Gift of the Sea orb. This effect is also mutually exclusive with the Strength of the Sky; you can only have one buff at a time.
Phase Two: The Protector Redeemed
Phase Two starts when Argus the Unmaker reaches 70% health, and it lasts until he reaches 40% health.
Golganneth will cast Golganneth's Wrath, which creates a huge storm covering the entire platform except the center. Players caught in the storm take heavy Nature damage. Golganneth's Wrath clears away all instances of Death Fog.
Volatile Soul
Volatile Soul occurs each time Argus the Unmaker reaches 100 Titanic Essence in Phase Two. Argus will apply Soulburst to two random raid members and Soulbomb to one random raid member.
After the first Volatile Soul, two Soulbursts will be applied each time Argus the Unmaker reaches 50 Titanic Essence as well.
Soulbomb and Soulbomb Detonation
Soulbomb deals moderate Shadow damage every 3 seconds for 15 seconds. When Soulbomb expires, a Soulbomb Detonation is triggered at the target's location. Soulbomb Detonation deals massive Shadow damage to the afflicted player and all other raid members. The damage is reduced the further the affected players are from the Soulbomb Detonation.
Soulburst and Soulburst Detonation
Soulburst deals light Shadow damage every 3 seconds for 15 seconds. When Soulburst expires, a Soulburst Detonation is triggered at the target's location. Soulburst Detonation deals moderate Shadow damage to the afflicted player and all other raid members. The damage is reduced the further the affected players are from the Soulburst Detonation.
Edge of Obliteration
Edge of Obliterations manifest around the platform, appearing as a beam of dark energy traveling in a line. The beam does not move. Edge of Obliteration deals moderate Physical damage every 2 seconds and knocks back any targets it comes in contact with.
Sweeping Scythe
Sweeping Scythe is also present in Phase Two and functions in an identical fashion to Phase One.
Aggramar's Aid and Aggramar's Boon
Aggramar the Avenger, another Titan of the Pantheon, periodically offers the Tanks a temporary buff. Aggramar will only buff one of the Tanks at a time, granting them Avatar of Aggramar for 60 seconds, increasing health by 100% and movement speed by 40%. The Avatar of Aggramar also grants nearby allies Aggramar's Boon, which redirects all damage they take to the Tank buffed with Avatar of Aggramar.
Phase Three: The Arcane Masters
Phase Three commences when Argus the Unmaker reaches 40% health. Argus is momentarily subdued by Aman'Thul and cannot be engaged. The raid must defeat the Constellar Designates before Argus is able to resume his attacks.
The Constellar Designates
The number of Constellar Designates varies with difficulty.
Cosmic Ray
Cosmic Ray sends a beam of arcane energy towards a random player, inflicting heavy Arcane damage to anyone in the line.
Cosmic Beacon and Cosmic Smash
Cosmic Beacon marks a player's current location to be struck by a Cosmic Smash after 4 seconds. Cosmic Smash deals moderate Arcane damage instantly and additional damage every 2 seconds for 6 seconds (this effect can stack). Cosmic Beacon is an interruptible cast.
Impending Inevitability
Impending Inevitability occurs when a Constellar is interrupted, granting them immunity to further interrupts for 20 seconds.
Starblast
Starblast inflicts light Arcane damage to a random player. This cast can be interrupted.
The Stellar Armory
Two Constellar Designates will be periodically equipped with weapons. They will no longer cast spells for the duration of the effect and instead engage the group with melee attacks.
Sword of the Cosmos
The Sword of the Cosmos increases the wielder's melee attack damage by 200% and grants the ability Cosmic Power. Cosmic Power empowers the caster and all Constellar Designates within 20 yards to increase their damage by 20% for 180 seconds.
Blades of the Eternal
The Blades of the Eternal increase the wielder's melee attack damage by 300%.
Norgannon's Aid
Norgannon, a Titan of the Pantheon, offers the raid his aid, using The Discs of Norgannon to debuff the Constellar Designates. Each Constellar will take 200% more damage from a single school of damage.
Phase Four: The Gift of Life, The Forge of Loss
This section is based entirely off speculation formed from datamined interactions, abilities, and NPCs, as well as information found in the official dungeon journal. The Fourth Phase was not seen on PTR and therefore remains an educated mystery. This section will be continually updated as the available information becomes more concrete.
Phase Four begins with Argus the Unmaker at 40% health, and he instantly kills all players with Reap Soul.
End of All Things
End of All Things kills everything instantly. This spell is interruptible.
Ember of Rage
Ember of Rage is cast periodically, causing a rain of titanic energy to fall from the sky, manifesting as little circles on the floor. Players hit suffer heavy Shadow damage immediately, followed by moderate Shadow damage every 2 seconds for 20 seconds. Embers of Rage can stack.
Tortured Rage
Tortured Rage is also present in Phase Four and functions in an identical fashion to Phase One.
Volatile Soul
Volatile Soul is also present in Phase Four and functions in an identical fashion to Phase Two.
Deadly Scythe
Deadly Scythe cleaves all targets in a 180 degree cone in front of Argus the Unmaker, dealing heavy Physical damage and applying a debuff that increases the damage of subsequent Deadly Scythes by 150% forever (per stack).
Reorigination Modules
Reorigination Modules are created periodically and begin an Initialization Sequence immediately, causing their health to decay to 0 over 20 seconds. For each second Initialization Sequence is channeled, the radius of Reorigination Pulse is increased. Reorigination Pulse is cast when the Module reaches 0 health, and deals massive lethal Arcane damage to players within the radius of the Pulse, and moderate Arcane damage raid wide.
Eonar's Aid
Eonar the Lifebinder, another Titan of the Pantheon, periodically grants the raid Gift of the Lifebinder to save players, allowing them to release spirit after death and enter the Spirit World. Players can return to life if they can reach the tree she creates in the Spirit World, however, this costs some of the Gift of the Lifebinder's Energy. Once the Gift of the Lifebinder's Energy is fully depleted, it becomes a Withered Gift of the Lifebinder.
The Withered Gift of the Lifebinder can be healed by players. When used by a player to resurrect, Withering Roots is applied to the Withered Gift. Withering Roots is a permanent stacking debuff that deals ticking damage to the Withered Gift.
Khaz'Goroth's Aid
Khaz'Goroth the Shaper, another Titan of the Pantheon, will assist the raid when they have collected enough Motes of Titanic Power, which grant him Titanic Essence. Khaz'Goroth requires at least 20 Titanic Essence to begin channeling his Titanforging ability. While Khaz'Goroth is channeling Titanforging, all players are Titanforged, obtaining increased damage, healing, and movement speed as long as Khaz'Goroth can maintain his channel. The effect of Titanforged is greater if Khaz'Goroth has higher amounts of Titanic Essence.
Spirit World
Hungering Souls
Hungering Souls are present in the Spirit World. If they come into contact with a player ghost, they burst and apply Soul Detonation to them and anyone nearby. Soul Detonation knocks back ghosts and reduces their movement speed by 50% for 8 seconds.
Motes of Titanic Power
Each time a Reorigination Pulse goes off, Titanic Energy is released into the Spirit World in the form of Motes of Titanic Power. Collecting these motes allows Khaz'goroth to use his Titanforging ability.
