Retribution Paladin PvP Guide — Midnight Pre-Patch (12.0.1)

Retribution Paladin is currently a solid melee specialization that can excel in both Solo Shuffle and Battleground Blitz. Its semi ranged playstyle enables it to play very well with double melee compositions allowing safe positioning. Retribution remains one of the worst DPS in 2v2 arena as it has no Mortal Wounds. Retribution has a few comps that are are fairly good in 3v3 arena. Overall it is a fairly easy class to pick up with enough complexities to keep the veteran and new player interested.

Strengths

• Strong burst damage
• Great consistent and cleave damage
• Multiple ways to support teammates via blessing spells
• Nearly the entire damage kit can be done from mid-range

Weaknesses

• Limited mobility
• Target of choice for most teams
• No Mortal Wounds effect limits compositions

• A talent tree rework has changed the positions of many talents.
• Crusading Strikes now generates a holy power on every strike
• Templar Strikes now has a shorter cooldown and the second charge does not expire
• Both Herald of the Sun and Templar hero trees have received a 4th column of talents
• 2 and 4 set gear set bonuses have been reworked into becoming flat % damage increases.
• Hammer of Wrath is now baked into Judgment and activates upon Avenging Wrath
• Crusade no longer causes Avenging Wrath to lose its crit buff
• Introduction of Apex talent The Light Within strengthening Avenging Wrath and Art of War effects. These talents will not be available right away.
• Removal of Repentance and selecting Searing Glare as a talent will now take the place of Blinding Light.
• More PvP changes are expected as the launch of Midnight gets closer. Check back for more at the start of the season!
• Dawnlight has been buffed by 120% while Sun's Avatar has been nerfed by roughly 50%.
• Word of Glory and Flash of Light have received an 85% and 100% buff respectively.
