How to Get Mounts While Leveling Up in World of Warcraft?
This page goes over the fundamentals of buying and riding mounts in World of Warcraft as you level up, as well as the locations of each faction and race's mount vendors.
How To Get Mounts in World of Warcraft
Mounts are the primary way to get around in World of Warcraft, as they increase your movement speed significantly. They can be used in almost all outdoor areas, except for dungeons, and there are hundreds of mounts to collect.
You will unlock the ability to ride a mount at Level 10, but you can also
unlock a special "Heirloom Mount", the
Chauffeured Chopper by
unlocking the
Heirloom Hoarder achievement, which requires you to
collect 35 different Heirloom items. This mount is slightly slower than
a normal mount, but it can be used from Level 1 for a huge boost to your
early leveling speed.
If you are looking to pick up this sweet ride, check out our Heirloom Guide below to find out how they work and where you can pick them up!
To ride your mounts, you will first need to learn the Riding skill. This is taught automatically as you level up. Below you will find a list of the Riding Skills, and when you learn them.
| Riding Skill | What It Unlocks |
|---|---|
| Journeyman Riding (Level 10) | Ground Mount Riding at 100% Speed |
| Expert Riding(Level 20) | Flying Mount Riding at 150% Speed |
| Master Riding (Level 30) | Flying Mount Riding at 310% Speed |
| Skyriding (Level 10) | Dynamic Flying at the fastest speeds, up to 830% Speed |
Since the introduction of Skyriding in Dragonflight, you can unlock flying as early as level 10. This mount system is more advanced than traditional flying and introduces new mechanics you'll need to learn, but can only be used in certain zones at lower levels. While it takes a bit of practice, Skyriding makes traveling much faster and can be a lot of fun once you get the hang of it. For a full breakdown of how it works, check out our Skyriding guide below.
Most mounts are account-wide, so unless you are a completely new player, chances are that you will have a ground mount ready to use as soon as you reach Level 10. If you do not yet own a mount, the easiest and cheapest ones to get early on are going to be your racial mounts, available at specific vendors for your Faction. They are listed below.
Where to Buy Racial Mounts
To begin with, you can only buy mounts from the vendors of your race. You will need to achieve Exalted reputation with the other racial factions to buy mounts from them.
