Patch 11.1.7 introduces Lorewalking, a new feature that lets players relive key lore events from Azeroth's rich history. This guide explains how to unlock Lorewalking, where to start, what stories are available, and the rewards you can earn.

1.

How to Start Lorewalking?

Players level 10+ can begin the Lorewalking questline by talking to Lorewalker Cho, who can be found sitting on a bench in Stormwind (Alliance), Orgrimmar (Horde), and Dornogal.

His location will be marked on your map with a small open book icon.

2.

Choosing a Lorewalking Story

After speaking to Lorewalker Cho, you will access a new User Interface that lets you pick one of three storylines. Eventually, Blizzard plans to have a total of 38 Lorewalking stories.

The following stories are available right now:

  • Xal'atath: Xal'atath, the Harbinger, was once known as the Blade of the Black Empire. Her history is a well-kept secret. But her words and deeds have affected so many that she is impossible to ignore. Her story must be told.
  • Ethereals: Mysterious and elusive, the ethereals that have traveled to our world speak little of their history. Yet there is much to be learned from the few things they do choose to share...
  • The Lich King: Arthas Menethil. It is said that when he was born, the very forests of Lordaeron whispered his name. But did the forests of his youth know what he would eventually grow to become?
3.

Playing Through a Story

Each story consists of multiple quests that you must complete in order to advance in the story and unlock the rewards. You can stop at any time by talking to Lorewalker Cho and simply return later. The game will remember the last quest you finished in the story. You can also talk to Cho for additional lore details and explanations.

4.

Lorewalking Rewards

Each story grants unique rewards upon completion.

Completing the story about the Etherals grants you the K'aresh Memory Crystal Icon K'aresh Memory Crystal toy that lets you take on the appearance of a K'areshi.

Finishing the story about Arthas's Downfall provides you with the Royal Visage Icon Royal Visage toy that transforms you into a spectral version of Arthas Menethil for 5 minutes.

Completing the Xal'atath story grants you the Echo of the Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire Icon Echo of the Xal'atath, Blade of the Black Empire toy that makes Xal'atath's voice occasionally echo with glee when you kill an enemy.
