General Information

On this page, you will find a working strategy to defeat Mythrax the Unraveler in Uldir for both Normal and Heroic modes, which usually only differ by the tuning of the boss.

Here, we assume that you have read our descriptions of the abilities for this encounter.

The other pages of our Mythrax the Unraveler guide can be accessed from the table of contents on the right.

1.

Annihilation Management

Based on Beta testing, the way to deal with Annihilation Icon Annihilation is to only have players with very high stacks of the debuff collect Existence Fragment Icon Existence Fragments in order to keep their Annihilation down to a reasonable level. The exception to this is the tank, who must go out of their way to collect orbs and remove Annihilation after each Essence Shear Icon Essence Shear cast.

In this Beta version, the raid was always fighting a losing battle against Annihilation Icon Annihilation stacks, which will continuously increase on the whole raid as the fight progresses. That said, changes to the Dungeon Journal indicate that this may change for the live release of the fight, so we will update the guide when we know more.

Positioning and Strategy

2.1.

Phase One

When the encounter begins, tank Mythrax about of third of the way out from the center of the room, facing away from the raid. Tanks need to swap after every Essence Shear Icon Essence Shear to let the other tank collect Existence Fragment Icon Existence Fragments in order to remove Annihilation Icon Annihilation stacks.

The raid should be spread around the room in order to avoid multiple people being caught in Oblivion Sphere Icon Oblivion Spheres. When spheres go out, use displacement abilities like Death Grip Icon Death Grip, Typhoon Icon Typhoon, or Ring of Peace Icon Ring of Peace to knock players out of them. Be careful if using AoE knockbacks if too many people have been charmed, as the Crashing Oblivion Icon Crashing Oblivion triggered when players are removed from the spheres could be lethal. If there are no available displacement effects, have your DPS knock charmed players out with damaging abilities. If there are too many Oblivion Spheres in melee, the Tank should back up roughly 10 yards.

Melee players need to be mindful not to enter the Oblivion Sphere Icon Oblivion Spheres to try to knock others out, since this will just cause them to also become charmed.

When Mythrax turns around and targets a player with Obliteration Blast Icon Obliteration Blast, everyone needs to move out of the path towards which the boss is facing to avoid the cast.

Players afflicted with Imminent Ruin Icon Imminent Ruin need to run to the edges of the room as it is expiring to ensure they do not grant additional stacks of Annihilation Icon Annihilation to other players, as well as to reduce the damage the raid will take. This debuff does take 12 seconds to expire, so players should aim to stay in range of the boss and continue DPS for as long as they feel safe doing so.

2.2.

Phase Two

When Mythrax enters Phase Two, the raid needs to loosely spread around the room in order to dodge the two Oblivion Sphere Icon Oblivion Spheres that spawn. Players charmed by these spheres should be knocked out or otherwise moved from the spheres as soon as possible.

The tanks need to pick up the two N'raqi Destroyers that spawn, and tank them on opposite sides of the room from one another. Once the Destroyers are in position, the raid needs to stack on the Destroyer that the group intends to kill first in order to group up the spawns of the Visions of Madness Icon Visions of Madness. This will make it much easier to AoE them down quickly, before their Mind Flay Icon Mind Flay can become a problem. The Tanks are able to handle interrupting the Destroyers on their own, leaving DPS to the Visions of Madness.

From here the raid needs to simply dodge the Obliteration Beam Icon Obliteration Beam while AoEing down the Visions of Madness Icon Visions of Madness and keeping the N'raqi Destroyers interrupted.

The blast from Xalzaix's Awakening Icon Xalzaix's Awakening should spawn a large number of Existence Fragment Icon Existence Fragments. Players with high stacks, as well as the tanks should pick up as many fragments as they can during this phase, or as Mythrax cycles back into Phase One.

The focus of the raid in this phase is entirely on the adds, since Mythrax is not really part of the fight at this point.

3.

Tank Concerns

The number of stacks of Annihilation Icon Annihilation you have is going be your main concern for this fight. Do not be afraid to steal "other people's" Existence Fragment Icon Existence Fragments in order to keep your stacks under control.

4.

Healing Concerns

Healers are going to need to be keenly aware of how many people are being caught in Oblivion Sphere Icon Oblivion Spheres. Ideally, it would be just one person per sphere, but things can sometimes get messy in melee. Be ready with raid cooldowns in situations where many people might break out all at once, or if those breaks are going to line up with Imminent Ruin Icon Imminent Ruin.

5.

Bloodlust/Heroism/Time Warp

We advise you to use Bloodlust Icon Bloodlust/Heroism Icon Heroism/Time Warp Icon Time Warp at the beginning of the fight to synergize with cooldowns and potions.
