Choosing your gear carefully is important for your Assassination Rogue in PvP. We give you a stat priority to help you choose items with the right stats, followed by advice on how to choose your gear and your trinkets.

This page is part of our Assassination Rogue PvP Guide.

Stat Priority for Assassination Rogues in PvP

The stat priority for Assassination Rogues in PvP is as follows:

  1. Agility;
  2. Versatility;
  3. Mastery;
  4. Haste;
  5. Critical Strike.

Agility is the best stat in all situations. Versatility is the most vital secondary stat because it increases your damage and reduces the damage you take. Mastery is the second-best stat. It is a flat damage increase to Bleeds and Poisons. Mastery is the highest damage increase per stat point you can have. However, it still comes behind Versatility because Versatility also helps you survive. Haste increases the tick rate of your bleeds, giving you more damage but also more Energy through the passive Venomous Wounds Icon Venomous Wounds, and Critical Strike increases your damage and your Combo point generation through the passive Seal Fate Icon Seal Fate. Both stats are somewhat even. Critical Strike will be better if you plan on playing a bursty single-target build, and Haste will be better if you plan on playing a cleave-heavy build. But most of your gear will be made of Mastery/Versatility gear anyway.

Gear Recommendations

2.1.

General Guidelines

You want to use PvP items as much as possible since they have increased item level in PvP combat. This is what your gear should look like, excluding most crafted items:

  • Head: Life-Bound Cap Icon Life-Bound Cap with Zone of Focus Icon Zone of Focus
  • Neck: Draconic Gladiator's Amulet Icon Draconic Gladiator's Amulet
  • Shoulders: Draconic Gladiator's Leather Shoulderpads Icon Draconic Gladiator's Leather Shoulderpads
  • Cloak: Draconic Warmonger's Cape Icon Draconic Warmonger's Cape
  • Chest: Lurking Specter's Brigandine Icon Lurking Specter's Brigandine
  • Wrists: Draconic Warmonger's Wraps Icon Draconic Warmonger's Wraps
  • Hands: Draconic Gladiator's Leather Gloves Icon Draconic Gladiator's Leather Gloves
  • Waist: Draconic Warmonger's Belt Icon Draconic Warmonger's Belt
  • Legs: Lurking Specter's Tights Icon Lurking Specter's Tights
  • Feet: Infurious Footwraps of Indemnity Icon Infurious Footwraps of Indemnity
  • Ring 1: Draconic Gladiator's Ring Icon Draconic Gladiator's Ring
  • Ring 2: Draconic Gladiator's Signet Icon Draconic Gladiator's Signet
  • Weapon 1: Draconic Gladiator's Dagger Icon Draconic Gladiator's Dagger
  • Weapon 2: Draconic Gladiator's Dagger Icon Draconic Gladiator's Dagger

This set of gear only includes two crafted, as you need to have two embellishments. However your ideal gearset features a lot more Mastery than what the conquest vendor can offer, so you want to craft as many items as you can to have as much Mastery as possible. As the season goes on you will be able to craft more items, so you will gradually replace your PvP items with Mastery/Versatility crafted items as they grant more Mastery.

2.2.

Note: it is essential to be wearing 2 PvP trinkets. This will increase your Agility and Stamina by a significant amount.

Draconic Gladiator's Medallion Icon Draconic Gladiator's Medallion is a mandatory trinket to have equipped at all times. This allows you to remove any crowd control on yourself. You will use this trinket if you are stunned and will die in this stun, or on any form of CC if one of your teammates will die and you can save them.

Draconic Gladiator's Badge of Ferocity Icon Draconic Gladiator's Badge of Ferocity is a powerful burst trinket. It gives you Agility and has a relatively short cooldown, allowing you to use it in your burst often. It can be great when used alongside Kingsbane Icon Kingsbane and/or Shadow Dance Icon Shadow Dance. It will be your default second trinket.

Draconic Gladiator's Insignia of Alacrity Icon Draconic Gladiator's Insignia of Alacrity is a good sustained damage trinket. It will randomly give you a main stat buff. It is a good pick if you are mostly focused on sustained damage.

Draconic Gladiator's Emblem Icon Draconic Gladiator's Emblem increases your maximum health when used. This gives you an additional defensive when you are the target. The health increase is significant and will very often save your life if you use it when the enemy team is using cooldowns on you and your healer is in crowd control.
