This guide will walk you through everything you need to know to play Holy Priest in a PvP environment. The guide will cover everything from talent choices, PvP talents, gameplay and rotation, and useful racial bonuses. It is most applicable to Arena content, but most talents and racial bonuses will work in Rated Battlegrounds and skirmishes.

3. Notable Midnight Changes to Holy Priest

Holy Priests in the Current Meta

Holy Priests are an exceptionally strong healer. They excel at healing against spread pressure and single-target teams. Many teams will struggle with how much utility and immunities you have. Most of their healing and crowd control is instant, making it very difficult for teams to stop their team's setups.

Strong Single-Target Healing Holy Priests have some of the best single-target healing amongst all healers. Guardian Spirit Icon

Guardian Spirit and Holy Word: Serenity Icon

Holy Word: Serenity give you the ability to quickly recover in situations most other healers could not. In addition to healing output, Holy Priests have Apotheosis Icon

Apotheosis, another strong healing cooldown to increase your team's survivability.

Very Little Utility Utility can come in different forms when playing a healer. Whether that is crowd control, damage reduction, or cooldowns to help teammates land kills, most healers have some form of these spells. Holy Priest has a fantastic way to help setup crowd control on enemies with Holy Word: Chastise Icon

Holy Word: Chastise and Psychic Scream Icon

Psychic Scream. The issue is that there is no other ways to help support your team besides healing and setting up this crowd control.

Mid-tier Mobility For many reasons, Holy Priests will struggle with their mobility in arena. The first is that they do not have a great way to close gaps between them and their target. Fade Icon

Fade is great, and is your only tool for getting to an enemy healer in order to crowd control them. You will have to rely on Holy Word: Chastise Icon

Holy Word: Chastise or crowd control from your teammate to consistently land Psychic Scream Icon

Psychic Screams.

Easy to Heal, but Difficult to Learn Being a healer in any meta will always be difficult. There are many things you need to pay attention to: incoming damage, your cooldowns, your teammates cooldowns, enemy interrupts, positions, crowd control, and much more. It can be overwhelming for some players playing a healer. Holy Priests have great single target healing, but will struggle to heal through spread damage, especially late into dampening. Having to rely on teammates to land their crowd control requires coordination that is not always easy. The great part about Holy Priest is that it is a straight forward healing rotation, so focus on maximizing your healing output and land crowd control when you can.

Changes to Holy Priest for the Midnight

Midnight Season 1 Changes Midnight Summary

Holy Priest received no changes for the start of Season 1, but Blizzard already mentioned that there will be multiple tuning passes in the first few weeks of the season. We will update this guide as soon as changes happen!

Notable Midnight Changes to Holy Priest

New Talents: Focused Power, Everlasting Light, Twin Disciplines, Lightburst, Efficient Prayers, Healing Focus, Cosmic Wave, Uplifting Words, Ultimate Serenity, and Radiant Plea. Most of these are modifiers that increase overall healing output for Holy Priest. Ultimate Serenity is interesting, as it replaces Holy Word: Sanctify, and any talents that affect Holy Word: Sanctify instead affect Holy Word: Serenity.
Removed spells & talents: Divine Star, Renew, Halo moved to Archon, Heal, Lightwell, Symbol of Hope, and Holy Mending.
Changed spells/talents:
- Void Tendrils - roots enemies when Psychic Scream ends.
- Holy Fire replaces Shadow Word: Pain.
- Prayer of Mending now replaces Power Word: Shield.
PvP Talent Changes:
- Holy Ward has been removed.
- Mindgames has been removed.
- Catharsis has been removed.
- Divine Ascension has been removed.
- Thoughtsteal has been removed.
- Ray of Hope has been removed.
