Varimathras Mythic Strategy/Tactics
Table of Contents
General Information
On this page, you will find a list of changes between Normal/Heroic modes and Mythic mode, as well as a working strategy to defeat Varimathras in Antorus, the Burning Throne in Mythic mode.
The other pages of our Varimathras guide can be accessed from the table of contents on the right.
Mythic Mode Abilities
Shadow of Varimathras spawns a copy of Varimathras with
significantly reduced health whenever Alone in the Darkness is cast.
The Shadow will attack players and periodically cast
Echoes of Doom,
which marks a random player for 3.5 seconds with a debuff. When it expires,
a void zone spawns at the target's location that persists for the remainder
of the encounter. The Echoes deal significant Shadow damage every second to
any players within their radius.
Strategy
The strategy for Mythic Varimathras mainly revolves around management
of the Necrotic Embrace, as it is absolutely crucial that
Alone in the Darkness is never triggered. Creating an accidental
Shadow of Varimathras often results in a chain reaction and an
eventual wipe. Do note that if an add does spawn, it must be prioritized
and killed immediately before
Echoes of Doom can be cast, as this
will guarantee a wipe if successful.
The best way to avoid spawning any Shadow of Varimathras adds
is to use immunities to prevent Necrotic Embrace from spreading
while all players remain 8 yards of each other, preventing
Alone in the Darkness from being cast. This can be achieved by
placing two raid markers behind the main stack points, as shown below:

The player affected by Necrotic Embrace will go to the furthest
marker. A player with a magical immunity will go to the marker between the
Necrotic Embrace and the group stack. All players must ensure they stay within
8 yards at all times. The player with the immunity must use it before
Necrotic Embrace expires, as immunities prevent the application of Necrotic
Embrace but cannot clear it after it is applied.
Dealing with Necrotic Embrace and preventing
Alone in the Darkness are the only differences with the encounter on
Mythic. This encounter presents a serious DPS check for most groups, and
any mistakes will cause the encounter to immediately collapse as the
Shadows of Varimathras spread out of control.
Bloodlust/Heroism/Time Warp
It is best to use Bloodlust immediately on the pull, as this
presents the best synchronicity of cooldowns and provides maximum DPS
gain.
