Overview
Kil'jaeden is a 5-phase encounter, sporting 3 main phases and 2 intermissions. Kil'jaeden features a dizzying number of mechanics to keep track of, and though many of them appear several times across new phases, they interact with the new mechanics and raid positioning in new and complex ways each time.
Phase One: The Betrayer
This phase lasts from the start of the fight until Kil'jaeden reaches 80% health.
Felclaws
Felclaws empowers Kil'jaeden's claws with Fel Energy for
11.5 seconds, causing his melee attacks to increase all Physical damage taken
by enemies struck by 35% for 20 seconds. This effect stacks.
On Heroic difficulty and above,
 Felclaws additionally causes
Kil'jaeden's melee attacks to inflict 40% of his melee attack damage
to all enemies in a cone in front of him.
Rupturing Singularity
Rupturing Singularity drops a small sphere of dark energy onto a
targeted location, marked by a purple circle. Anyone caught inside the point of
impact when the sphere lands will be instantly killed. Players outside the point
of impact will be knocked a sizeable distance away and take moderate damage.
Rupturing Singularity will always spawn in the center of the platform.
Armageddon
Kil'jaeden calls down a hail of meteors with
 Armageddon,
raining across the platform.
Armageddon Rain comprises most of the meteors. They are marked by
small red circle on the ground, and take 7 seconds to reach the platform.
They inflict moderate Fire damage to anyone caught in them upon impact, and
further inflict Fire damage every 2 seconds for 60 seconds. This debuff can
stack.
Armageddon Hail is a massive meteor, marked by a large red circle.
The meteor takes 7 seconds to reach the platform, and does massive Physical
damage to anyone hit along with additional Physical damage every 2 seconds for
10 seconds. This debuff can stack.
Armageddon Blast is triggered if any meteors are not soaked
by a raid member, dealing heavy raid wide Fire damage immediately and moderate
Fire damage every 2 second for 30 seconds to all players.
Erupting Reflection
Kil'jaeden severs the souls of several players, creating
Erupting Reflections after 8 seconds that are copies of the targeted
players via
Shadow Reflection: Erupting. They will begin to cast
Erupting Dreadflame, which inflicts moderate raid wide Fire damage.
On Heroic difficulty and higher, each
 Erupting Dreadflame cast
applies a stack of Eruption to each Erupting Reflection
within 20 yards. Eruption increases damage done by 50%, and stacks with
each additional cast.
Phase Two: Eternal Flame
Phase Two, considered an intermission phase, begins when Kil'jaeden reaches 80% health. This phase lasts 60 seconds.
Nether Gale
Kil'jaeden cloaks himself in a
 Nether Gale, reducing all
damage taken by 99% for the duration of the phase.
Armageddon
Armageddon occurs in the exact same fashion as in Phase One.
Rupturing Singularity
Rupturing Singularity appears and functions identically to Phase
One, however, it spawns in the corners of the room instead of the center.
Bursting Dreadflame
Bursting Dreadflame is a debuff applied to several players that
inflicts moderate Fire damage to everyone within 15 yards of the target after
several seconds.
Focused Dreadflame
Focused Dreadflame targets a player, and inflicts massive Fire
damage in a line (between Kil'jaeden and the target) after several
seconds. The damage is divided between all players hit.
On Heroic difficulty and above,
 Focused Dreadflame also inflicts
Focused Dreadburst to all players hit. This deals moderate Fire damage
to all players within 5 yards.
Phase Three: Reflected Souls
Phase Three begins at 80% health and lasts until Kil'jaeden reaches 40% health.
Bursting Dreadflame
Bursting Dreadflame functions identically to Phase Two.
Focused Dreadflame
 Focused Dreadflame and
 Focused Dreadburst both function
identically to Phase Two.
Erupting Reflection
Erupting Reflections appear in this phase and perform the same mechanics as in Phase One.
Felclaws
Felclaws functions identically to Phase One.
Rupturing Singularity
Rupturing Singularity functions identically to Phase One, with the
orb spawning in the center of the platform once more.
Armageddon
Armageddon functions in the same fashion as Phase One.
Phase Four: Deceiver's Veil
Phase Four begins with Kil'jaeden exiting the fight at 40% health and lasts until all Shadowsouls have been eliminated (these adds spawn during this phase).
Deceiver's Veil
Deceiver's Veil restricts the raid's vision and ability to target any
allies or enemies to 8 yards, causing healing to be reduced by 100% and causing
all spells and attacks to miss. Additionally, all players are affected by
 Choking Shadow.
Choking Shadow
Choking Shadow absorbs increasing amounts of healing the longer you
remain in
 Deceiver's Veil.
Rupturing Singularity
Rupturing Singularity functions the same way in this phase, and
spawns in the corners of the platform.
Shadowsouls
Shadowsouls spawn throughout the platform, periodically casting
Destabilized Shadowsoul, inflicting raid wide Shadow damage to all
players within 300 yards. Once all Shadowsouls have been eliminated the
phase ends.
Lord Illidan Stormrage
Lord Illidan Stormrage will periodically fly to the platform
during
Deceiver's Veil. Any players who move within 8 yards of him are
granted
Illidan's Sightless Gaze, allowing you to see and hit all enemies
within a 40 yard radius. It also allows you to heal allies within this
distance. During this time you are overwhelmed with Fel power, inflicting
ticking Fire damage every 1 second for 20 seconds.
Phase Five: Darkness of a Thousand Souls
The phase starts with Kil'jaeden at 40% health and ends when the boss is defeated.
Tear Rift
Tear Rift spawns a demonic rift, pulling in all nearby players,
missiles, and flame pools. Nearby players are afflicted with
Gravity Squeeze, inflicting heavy Shadow damage every 1 second,
increasing each time it ticks until the player has exited Gravity
Squeeze.
Darkness of a Thousand Souls
Kil'jaeden charges his ultimate attack,
 Darkness of a Thousand Souls,
which inflicts massive Shadow damage immediately and heavy Shadow damage every
2 seconds for the remainder of the encounter. If players are standing in
Tear Rift, however, the missiles targeting them will instead be harmlessly
sucked into the rift and allow them to avoid all damage.
Demonic Obelisk
Demonic Obelisk creates pillars around the platform which detonate
in a cross of Fel energy connecting them. Anyone hit is dealt heavy Fire damage
and knocked back.
Flaming Orb
Flaming Orbs target players and spawn a flame sphere. The spheres
chase the targeted player(s) until they impact, when it will deal a
Flaming Detonation for moderate Fire damage and create a pool of Fire.
The size of the pool is reduced based on the length of time the sphere chased the
player. Anyone inside the pool takes damage from
 Burning. The pools
will be sucked into any nearby
 Tear Rifts that spawn.
Bursting Dreadflame
Bursting Dreadflame functions identically to Phase Two.
Focused Dreadflame
 Focused Dreadflame and
 Focused Dreadburst both function
identically to the other phases.
Felclaws
Felclaws functions identically to the other phases.
