Fire Mage PvP Guide — Dragonflight Season 4 - World of Warcraft

This guide will walk you through everything you need to know to play Fire Mage in a PvP environment. The guide will cover everything from talent choices, PvP talents, gameplay and rotation, and useful racial bonuses. It is most applicable to Arena content, but most talents and racial bonuses will work in Rated Battlegrounds and skirmishes.

3. Notable 11.2 Changes to Fire Mages

Fire Mages' Place in Season 3

Fire Mages are one of the most unique caster specializations. The damage profile for Fire heavily relies on the hit-and-run playstyle. Utilizing heavy Crowd Control setups with Combustion Icon Combustion on an isolated target makes Fire Mage is a force to be reckoned with. The main class a Mage should be looking to pair with is a Rogue, Shadow Priest, or Warrior. With coordinated stuns into Polymorph Icon Polymorphs and a strong healer (Holy Priest or Restoration Druid), Fire Mage compositions typically have very large on-demand damage, with high consistent damage as well as long crowd control chains on enemies.

Fire Mage Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths

Strong crowd control
High burst damage
Multiple casting schools
Significant instant cast damage

Weaknesses

Low consistent damage
Predictable burst damage
Will struggle versus teams with two melee on it
The weakest defensively of all three Mage specializations

Notable 11.2 Changes to Fire Mages

Frostfire Burst damage increased by 50%.
Excess Frost now casts Ice Nova at 200% effectiveness (was 150%).
Mastery: Ignite damage reduced by 10%.
Controlled Destruction has been updated – Mastery: Ignite damage bonus reduced to 0.3% per stack (was 0.5% per stack).
Meteor damage increased by 20%.
