Gearing a Retribution Paladin
Welcome to our Gearing Page for Retribution Paladin. This section will cover everything you need to know about equipping your character correctly.
You can find everything on our dedicated page below if you need gems and enchant advice for new gear.
The Importance of "Simming Yourself" as a Retribution Paladin
At this stage in the game, there are so many variables and layers of optimization that you can apply to your character that there is no way for a guide or anything else to tell you exactly what gear you should wear. This is why we always recommend simulating your own character using Raidbots. This website can help you in a way tailored completely to your specific character. Learning to use this tool is essential to maximizing your potential, as there is simply no other way to consider all the variables.
Droptimizer
The Droptimizer feature from Raidbots lets you identify which dungeons and Raid Bosses you should spend your Bonus Rolls on. It simulates all of the potential upgrades in a raid or a dungeon, and lists the bosses/dungeons by rank order of how much DPS you can expect to gain from bonus rolling on it. We have a guide for it that you can access using the link below.
Trinkets
Due to the prevalence of high item-level trinket rewards from weekly chests, there are various suitable options for trinkets. It is always best to use Raidbots Top Gear to determine what your optimal trinkets are. Below are a few suggestions.
First On-Use Trinkets
- The
Manic Grieftorch trinket is a strong single-target and cleave trinket with a 2-minute cooldown. If an ally dies, its cooldown is reduced by 90 seconds. You can use this trinket as first or second on-one trinket. If used as a second on-use trinket, activate it after using your first on-use trinket.
- The
Blazebinder's Hoof trinket is a strong single-target and cleave trinket with a 2-minute cooldown. It lasts 20 seconds and stacks Strength up to 6 times. Once it runs out, it deals split Fire damage to nearby enemies depending on the number of stacks built (Ruby Life Pools).
Bonemaw's Big Toe is a strong single-target and cleave trinket with 2-minute cooldown. It grants a decent amount of Critical Strike for 20-seconds and does split Shadow damage in a frontal cone. (Shadowmoon Burial Grounds).
- The
Storm-Eater's Boon is a perfect cleave trinket with 3-minute cooldown. It roots you in place for 10 seconds while dealing Nature damage to enemies within 10 yards. (Vault of the Incarnates).
Passive Trinkets
- The
Spiteful Storm trinket is a powerful single-target trinket (Vault of the Incarnates).
- The
Whispering Incarnate Icon trinket is a strong stat stick trinket for both single-target and cleave (Vault of the Incarnates).
- The
Idol of Trampling Hooves trinket is a good single-target trinket that sometimes summons a centaur who charges forward, dealing split physical damage in a line (The Nokhud Offensive).
- The
Hunger of the Pack trinket is a good Critical Strike stat stick for both single-target and cleave (Halls of Valor).
Stats
Many people overthink their secondary stats' distribution. An important thing to remember is that a higher quantity of stats is often better than a better quality of stats. Because of this, wearing higher item-level gear with worse stats tends to be better than lower item-level gear with great stats. Keep this in mind when considering gear. For more stats information, please refer to our dedicated page.
Retribution Paladin Tier Set - Virtuous Silver Cataphract
The Vault of the Incarnates raid features a new round of Primalist Tier Sets themed around the four elements. Additionally, pieces of this set can eventually be earned from the weekly Dragonflight Great Vault and can also be made at the Inspiration Catalyst. This set armor, when enough pieces of it are worn, unlocks two set bonuses for Retribution Paladins:
Retribution Paladin 2pc —
Judgment,
Blade of Justice, and
Wake of Ashes deal 15% increased damage.
Retribution Paladin 4pc —
Templar's Verdict,
Final Verdict, and
Divine Storm deal 10% increased damage.
These set bonuses are good for Raiding and Mythic+ and should be obtained quickly.
