Choosing the right PvP and PvE talents is a prerequisite to proper performance in PvP. This guide goes through the various talent choices available to you as a Discipline Priest and gives you the best combinations you can take.

This page is part of our Discipline Priest PvP Guide.

1.

Regular Talents for Discipline Priests

As a healer, adapting your build to the situation is important, as the way to heal greatly varies with what you are playing with and facing.

The following build is to be played as the default talent build for 3v3 and Solo Shuffle. You still have to choose Ultimate Radiance Icon Ultimate Radiance as a pvp talent. It allows you to have strong, instant burst healing.

The following build is to be played as the damage talent build for 2v2. This playstyle allows you to heal a lot with Atonement Icon Atonement.

1.1.

Priest Tree

1.1.1.

Mandatory Talents

Dispel Magic Icon Dispel Magic, Mass Dispel Icon Mass Dispel, Leap of Faith Icon Leap of Faith, Shadow Word: Death Icon Shadow Word: Death and Power Infusion Icon Power Infusion are part of your defensive and offensive utility and need to be picked.

Power Word: Life Icon Power Word: Life is a powerful healing spell with a short cooldown. It is instrumental in keeping your team alive.

Surge of Light Icon Surge of Light is a powerful healing talent as it can proc instant Flash Heal Icon Flash Heal free of cost. It helps with sustained healing.

Phantasm Icon Phantasm is a spell Priests have needed for a long time. It removes snares upon using Fade, giving Priests much-needed mobility.

Psychic Voice Icon Psychic Voice reduces the cooldown of your Psychic Scream by 15s. It is crucial as Psychic Scream is your best crowd control ability.

1.1.2.

Important Talents

Mind Control Icon Mind Control is a solid pick as it gives you a powerful crowd control option that you can use both offensively and defensively.

Twist of Fate Icon Twist of Fate is a great talent as it allows you to recover when the enemy team has brought someone in your team low on health.

Void Tendrils Icon Void Tendrils allows you to mass root enemies. It is a good ability as it gives you more crowd-control options and makes it easier to survive when being trained by melee DPS.

1.2.

Discipline Tree

1.2.1.

Mandatory Talents

Pain Suppression Icon Pain Suppression, Power Word: Barrier Icon Power Word: Barrier and Rapture Icon Rapture are your main defensive cooldowns and are therefore mandatory.

Aegis of Wrath Icon Aegis of Wrath greatly empowers your Power Word: Shield. The shields are potent at the moment, which makes this passive a must-have.

Protector of the Frail Icon Protector of the Frail allows you to reduce the cooldown of Pain Suppression by using Power Word: Shield. Since you want to use Power Word: Shield on cooldown, as it is your best healing spell, the Talent is very powerful.

Power of the Dark Side Icon Power of the Dark Side, Dark Indulgence Icon Dark Indulgence and Castigation Icon Castigation both empower your Penance. It is one of your key healing spells, so empowering it for more healing or damage, resulting in healing through Atonement Icon Atonement is key.

1.2.2.

Important Talents

Power Word: Solace Icon Power Word: Solace is an essential ability as it allows you to regenerate mana while dealing damage and healing through Atonement.

Purge the Wicked Icon Purge the Wicked is a better version of Shadow Word: Pain Icon Shadow Word: Pain. Picking this Talent will allow you to save mana as it spreads upon using Penance, removing the need to use it manually on multiple enemies.

Train of Thought Icon Train of Thought is a great talent, as it allows you to reduce the cooldown of both Power Word: Shield and Penance, your two fundamental abilities.

2.

PvP Talents for Discipline Priests

You can choose three of the following PvP talents; each has uses, but some are better for certain strategies than others. The top three choices are the most useful but can be replaced with other PvP talents depending on your team's goal.

2.1.

Mandatory PvP Talents

Ultimate Radiance Icon Ultimate Radiance makes your Power Word: Radiance Icon Power Word: Radiance instant and increases the healing done. It is an excellent pick in a metagame where there is a lot of damage spikes very often, as it allows you to top your team instantly.

Inner Light and Shadow Icon Inner Light and Shadow allows you to swap between two stances. Inner Light Icon Inner Light reduces the Mana cost of your healing abilities by 10%. You may want to use it in some situations, but they are rare. The Talent is mostly picked for its second stance, Inner Shadow Icon Inner Shadow. It increases your spell damage by 10% and buffs your Atonement Icon Atonement healing by 10%. It is one of the key talents that you need to play to maximize your damage output and healing through Atonement.

2.2.

Situational PvP Talents

Phase Shift Icon Phase Shift makes you immune against attacks and spells for 1 second. This makes it more difficult for the enemy to land crowd control on you.

Archangel Icon Archangel refreshes the duration of your Atonement Icon Atonement and increases your healing done by 20% for 15s on a 1-minute cooldown. It is a solid healing cooldown.

Strength of Soul Icon Strength of Soul is now a solid option against teams with heavy physical damage. Shields now absorb a lot of damage, so it may remain in effect for a long time, making this PvP Talent worthwhile.

Dark Archangel Icon Dark Archangel increases your damage and the damage of all allies with your Atonement Icon Atonement by 15% for 8 seconds. This Talent is good if your team relies on large bursts to kill a target.

Purification Icon Purification gives Purify Icon Purify a maximum of two charges and grants your target a small absorb shield. It is crucial against teams with spammable, dispellable crowd control like Polymorph Icon Polymorph or Fear Icon Fear as you will be able to dispel your teammates multiple times, increasing their uptime and preventing the enemy team from controlling the pace of the game.

Absolute Faith Icon Absolute Faith enhances Leap of Faith Icon Leap of Faith by giving you and your allies an absorption shield after you used Leap of Faith Icon Leap of Faith on one of your party members.

Thoughtsteal Icon Thoughtsteal is an exciting talent that steals an ability from an enemy. This gives you access to the ability, and the enemy cannot use it for 20 seconds. Here is a list of the abilities you can steal from other classes/specs:

  • All Druid specs: Rejuvenation Icon Rejuvenation
  • All Mage specs: Polymorph Icon Polymorph
  • Mistweaver Monk: Renewing Mist Icon Renewing Mist
  • All Paladin Specs: Blessing of Freedom Icon Blessing of Freedom
  • Shadow Priest: Vampiric Touch Icon Vampiric Touch
  • Holy Priest: Renew Icon Renew
  • Discipline Priest: Penance Icon Penance
  • All Shaman Specs: Frost Shock Icon Frost Shock
  • All Warlock Specs: Fear Icon Fear

This PvP talent is especially powerful against Mages as you will deny them their primary crowd-control ability. Without it, they will not be able to peel for their team, and they will not be able to land offensive crowd control either. However, in the current patch, you will usually not have a slot for it.
