While the above table provides a generally accurate overview of the viability of talents, some finer points are discussed in the sections that follow, and we recommend you read those for a deeper understanding.
Regular Talents for Discipline Priests
Tier 1 (Level 15) Talents
Twist of Fate is the best choice in this tier. This will
help you keep your team alive once you leave crowd control or if you are
playing against a team with strong single target damage. If you want to save
Mana and want more healing from your damage,
Castigation helps with
that. Use this if the enemy team will not target you.
Tier 2 (Level 25) Talents
Angelic Feather is the best choice in this tier. This will help you
run to or from enemy players. This is crucial for getting a
Psychic Scream on an enemy healer. If you find yourself not using
Angelic Feather often or you think the enemy team will focus you,
Masochism is the better talent in this tier.
Tier 3 (Level 30) Talents
Power Word: Solace is the best choice in this tier. This talent
restores a decent amount of Mana and works well with the
Trinity
PvP talent.
Tier 4 (Level 35) Talents
If the goal for your team is to setup crowd control on the enemy healer,
Psychic Voice is the best choice in this tier. This makes
Psychic Scream a very strong crowd control ability.
If your team is focusing on surviving against a team with two melee on it,
Shining Force could be the better talent. If you take this talent,
you are sacrificing crowd control for survivability.
Tier 5 (Level 40) Talents
Sins of the Many is the best choice in this tier. This is a flat
increase to your damage, resulting in overall more healing dealt. It is
important to note that it does not decrease damage done when you have
Atonement on yourself. This talent also works great with the
Trinity PvP talent.
Tier 6 (Level 45) Talents
Purge the Wicked is the best choice in this tier. When using this
talent it is important to use it often to get value from
Atonement.
Using
Penance to spread
Purge the Wicked will help you save
Mana.
Tier 7 (Level 50) Talents
Lenience is the best choice in this tier. This talent is crucial
to keeping your teammates alive.
Atonement should be active on all of
your partners and increases your overall healing output.
PvP Talents for Discipline Priests
You can choose 3 of the following PvP talents. Each of them has their uses, but some are better for certain strategies than others. The top three choices are the most useful, but can be replaced with other PvP talents depending on your team's goal.
Mandatory PvP Talents
Dome of Light reduces the cooldown of one your major healing cooldowns,
Power Word: Barrier and increases damage reduction from it. This is a
crucial talent for helping your team recover.
Trinity increases the duration of
Atonement and the
healing transferred through
Atonement. This is by far one of the
strongest PvP talents you can have. This is an overall large increase to
your damage, which results in even more healing.
Situational PvP Talents
Thoughtsteal is a very interesting talent that steals an ability
from an enemy. This gives you access to the ability and the enemy cannot use it
for 20 seconds! Here is a list of the abilities you can steal from other
classes/specs:
- All Druid specs:
Rejuvenation
- All Mage specs:
Polymorph
- Mistweaver Monk:
Renewing Mist
- All Paladin Specs:
Blessing of Freedom
- Shadow Priest:
Vampiric Touch
- Holy Priest:
Renew
- Discipline Priest:
Penance
- All Shaman Specs:
Frost Shock
- All Warlock Specs:
Fear
This PvP talent is extremely powerful versus Mages, Mistweaver Monks, Restoration Druids, Shadow Priests, and Warlocks because you will be removing one of their primary abilities to deal damage or heal with.
Dark Archangel increases your damage, and the damage of all allies
with your
Atonement for 8 seconds. This is a strong talent if your
team is relying on large bursts to kill a target.
Purification gives
Purify a maximum of 2 charges.
Against teams with crowd control like
Polymorph or
Fear,
this is crucial to be able to dispel your teammates. This will help your team
have as much uptime on an enemy as possible without being slowed by crowd
control.
Ultimate Radiance makes your
Power Word: Radiance instant
and increases the healing done by 200%. This, in combination with talents like
Twist of Fate, is crucial to keeping your team alive.
Power Word: Radiance costs a lot of Mana and should only be used when
your team is low on Health.
