Discipline Priest PvP Talents and Builds — Midnight Pre-Patch (12.0)
Choosing the right PvP and PvE talents is a prerequisite to proper performance in PvP. This guide goes through the various talent choices available to you as a Discipline Priest and gives you the best combinations you can take.
This page is part of our Discipline Priest PvP Guide.
Regular Talents for Discipline Priests
As a healer, adapting your build to the situation is important, as the way to heal greatly varies with what you are playing with and facing.
Currently, the best build is focused around
Voidweaver and doing damage with
Mind Blast/
Void Blast.
If you want to play less aggressively in arena and focus more on direct-healing, you can switch to
Oracle instead. The Class and Spec trees are still the same.
Priest Tree
Dispel Magic,
Mass Dispel,
Leap of Faith,
Shadow Word: Death and
Power Infusion are part of your defensive and offensive utility and need to be picked.
Benevolence increases the healing of your spells and should always be chosen.
Surge of Light is a powerful healing talent as it can proc instant
Flash Heal free of cost. It helps with sustained healing.
Phantom Reach increases the range of most spells by 15%. This is great for Priests because one of your weaknesses is mobility. If your team starts to kite away from you, you will still be in range to heal.
Psychic Voice reduces the cooldown of your
Psychic Scream. It is crucial as
Psychic Scream is your best crowd control ability.
Mind Control is a solid pick as it gives you a powerful crowd control option that you can use both offensively and defensively.
Twist of Fate is a great talent as it allows you to recover when the enemy team has brought someone in your team low on health.
Angelic Bulwark gives you additional survivability when teams try to focus you.
Discipline Tree
Pain Suppression,
Power Word: Barrier and
Evangelism are your main defensive cooldowns and are therefore mandatory.
Divine Aegis is a crucial passive for Discipline Priests. Any direct healing that critical heals your target places a shield on that target for 30% of the amount healed. This, in combination with
Inner Focus, drastically increases your healing output. These talents should always be chosen.
Protector of the Frail allows you to reduce the cooldown of
Pain Suppression by using
Power Word: Shield. Since you want to use Power Word: Shield on cooldown, as it is your best healing spell, the talent is very powerful.
Power of the Dark Side,
Dark Indulgence and
Castigation both empower your
Penance. It is one of your key healing spells, so empowering it for more healing or damage, resulting in healing through
Atonement is key.
PvP Talents for Discipline Priests
You can choose three of the following PvP talents; each has uses, but some are better for certain strategies than others. The top three choices are the most useful but can be replaced with other PvP talents depending on your team's goal.
Mandatory PvP Talents
Ultimate Radiance reduces the cooldown of
Evangelism by 45 seconds and increases the healing of your
Power Word: Radiance. This is extremely important as
Evangelism is one of your most powerful cooldowns and this will make it almost a 1-minute cooldown.
Inner Light and Shadow allows you to swap between two stances.
Inner Light reduces the Mana cost of your healing abilities by 10%.
You may want to use it in some situations, but they are rare. The Talent is
mostly picked for its second stance,
Inner Shadow. It increases your
spell damage by 10% and buffs your
Atonement healing by 10%. It is one
of the key talents that you need to play to maximize your damage output and
healing through Atonement.
Situational PvP Talents
Phase Shift makes you immune against attacks and spells for 1 second.
This makes it more difficult for the enemy to land crowd control on you.
Strength of Soul is now a solid option against teams with heavy physical damage. Shields now absorb a lot of damage, so it may remain in effect for a long time, making this PvP Talent worthwhile.

Purification gives
Purify a maximum of two charges and grants your target a small absorb shield. It is crucial against teams with spammable, dispellable crowd control like
Polymorph or
Fear as you will be able to dispel your teammates multiple times, increasing their uptime and preventing the enemy team from controlling the pace of the game.
