Discipline Priest PvP Talents and Builds (Dragonflight / 10.0.7)
Choosing the right PvP and PvE talents is a prerequisite to proper performance in PvP. This guide goes through the various talent choices available to you as a Discipline Priest and gives you the best combinations you can take.
This page is part of our Discipline Priest PvP Guide.
Regular Talents for Discipline Priests
We will discuss two builds here. As a healer, adapting your build to the situation is important, as the way to heal greatly varies with what you are playing with and facing.
This first build is primarily to be played in 2v2 when you don't need high AoE burst
healing as you do not have Power Word: Radiance. It is best played when you can
afford to play extremely offensively, both by the specialization of your teammate and
by the damage of the enemy team.
This second build is made for 3v3. You most likely want to play with the talent
Power Word: Radiance. Alongside the PvP Talent
Ultimate Radiance,
it allows you to have strong, instant burst healing.
Priest Tree
Mandatory Talents
Dispel Magic,
Mass Dispel,
Leap of Faith,
Shadow Word: Death and
Power Infusion are part of your defensive and offensive
utility and need to be picked.
Mindgames is one of your major offensive cooldowns and will significantly help your
team landing kills on your goes.
Power Word: Life is a powerful healing spell with a short cooldown. It
is instrumental in keeping your team alive.
Surge of Light is a powerful healing talent as it can proc instant
Flash Heal
free of cost. It helps with sustained healing.
Phantasm is a spell Priests have needed for a long time.
It removes snares upon
using Fade, giving Priests much-needed mobility.
Psychic Voice reduces the cooldown of your Psychic Scream by 15s. It is
crucial as Psychic Scream
is your best crowd control ability.
Important Talents
Mind Control is a solid pick as it gives you a power crowd control
option that you can use both offensively and defensively.
Twist of Fate is a great talent as it allows you to recover when the
enemy team has brought
someone in your team low on health.
Void Tendrils allows you to mass root enemies. It is a good ability
as it gives you more crowd
control options, and makes it easier to survive when being trained by melee DPS.
Discipline Tree
Mandatory Talents
Pain Suppression,
Power Word: Barrier and
Rapture are your main defensive
cooldowns and are therefore mandatory.
Aegis of Wrath greatly empowers your Power Word:Shield. The shields are potent at
the moment which makes this passive a must-have.
Protector of the Frail allows you to reduce the cooldown of
Pain Suppression by using Power
Word: Shield. Since you want to use Power Word: Shield on
cooldown, as it is your best healing spell,
the Talent is very powerful.
Power of the Dark Side,
Dark Indulgence and
Castigation both empower your Penance.
It is one of your key healing spells, so empowering it for more
healing or damage, resulting in healing
through
Atonement, is key.
Important Talents
Power Word: Solace is an essential ability as it allows you to regenerate
mana while dealing damage
and healing through Atonement.
Purge the Wicked is a better version of
Shadow Word: Pain. Picking this
Talent will allow you to
save mana as it spreads upon using Penance, removing the need to use it
manually on multiple enemies.
Train of Thought is a great talent as it allows you to reduce the cooldown of
both Power Word: Shield
and Penance, your two fundamental abilities.
PvP Talents for Discipline Priests
You can choose 3 of the following PvP talents, each has uses, but some are better for certain strategies than others. The top three choices are the most useful but can be replaced with other PvP talents depending on your team's goal.
Mandatory PvP Talents
Dome of Light reduces the cooldown of one of your major defensive cooldowns,
Power Word: Barrier and increases damage reduction from it. This is the
most powerful defensive cooldown in the game, reducing all damage
taken by 50% for anyone who stands in the area of effect on a relatively short
cooldown. In 3v3, you should always pick this Talent. In 2v2 Discipline
Priest is a specialization that requires a solid damage output to be
viable. Therefore you will only pick Dome of Light against comps that have very
high burst damage and will not take you out of your Barrier when you use it, so
Subtlety Rogues and Assassination Rogues,
Arms Warriors and Fury Warriors,
Retribution Paladins, and Feral Druids. Against other
specializations, you will favor offensive PvP talents.
Inner Light and Shadow allows you to swap between two stances.
Inner Light reduces the Mana cost of your healing abilities by 15%.
You may want to use it in some situations, but they are rare. The Talent is
mostly picked for its second stance,
Inner Shadow. It increases your spell
damage by 10% and buffs your
Atonement healing by 10%. It is one
of the key talents that you need to play to maximize your damage output and
healing through Atonement.
Situational PvP Talents

Ultimate Radiance makes your
Power Word: Radiance instant
and increases the healing done. It is an excellent pick in a metagame where there
is a lot of damage spikes very often, as it allows you to top your team instantly.
Dark Archangel increases your damage and the damage of all allies
with your
Atonement by 15% for 8 seconds. This Talent is good if your
team relies on large bursts to kill a target.
Purification gives
Purify a maximum of 2 charges.
It is crucial against teams with spammable, dispellable crowd control like
Polymorph or
Fear as you will be able to dispel your teammates
multiple times, increasing their uptime and preventing the enemy team from controlling
the pace of the game.
Archangel refreshes the duration of your
Atonement and increases
your healing done by 20% for 15s on a 1-minite cooldown. It is a solid healing cooldown,
but it does not work towards Discipline Priest's strengths this patch, so you
will usually not have a slot for it.
Eternal Rest allows you to have a very short cooldown on your Shadow Word:
Death. It can be helpful against classes like Mage to avoid crowd control such as
Polymorph.
Thoughtsteal is an exciting talent that steals an ability
from an enemy. This gives you access to the ability, and the enemy cannot use it
for 20 seconds. Here is a list of the abilities you can steal from other
classes/specs:
- All Druid specs:
Rejuvenation
- All Mage specs:
Polymorph
- Mistweaver Monk:
Renewing Mist
- All Paladin Specs:
Blessing of Freedom
- Shadow Priest:
Vampiric Touch
- Holy Priest:
Renew
- Discipline Priest:
Penance
- All Shaman Specs:
Frost Shock
- All Warlock Specs:
Fear
This PvP talent is especially powerful against Mages as you will deny them their primary crowd-control ability. Without it, they will not be able to peel for their team, and they will not be able to land offensive crowd control either. However, in the current patch, you will usually not have a slot for it.
